I understand the sentiment but it is more fun to me to overcome a difficult challenge using what the game gives you than it is to mess around. This doesn't apply to every game though sometimes the hard difficulties in a game will just be artificial difficulty like inflated enemy health in which yeah I prefer an easier difficulty.

But it forbids you from experiencing the full breadth of a game. In easy, you can use whatever tactics you want, everything will be effective, and you wont get hurt much. This will lead you to rat the game lower, and have less criteria to rate the game on.

If you play on a higher difficulty, however, you can see exactly the amount of cover/defense the game devs expected you to take, the patterns of movement and different weapons they intended to be effective, and you learn what the bosses are all like and when to attack and not attack.

You have more ground to review a game's merits if you play on a higher difficulty, because every game has you be a walking god that can tank everything regardless of how you play on easy, but the true experience the game has to offer comes out on harder difficulties.

part of the experience is having to learn the mechanics to master it and prevail. if you're playing on easy, you might not even see half of a boss's moveset or have to learn how to react, you can just facetank everything and click to win

Easy is fine for games where difficulty = time grind.
In games where difficulty is actual challenge then play at a level which makes you feel engaged with the game.

Thats not what I said. I said that why play any game on easy if all you have to do - in every single game with an easy mode - is walk forward and spam your weapon. No tactics at all, no exploring the mechanics, nothing forcing you to be any better at the game or learning anything about it at all really.

Theres absolutely nothing in the game at all to merit playing it over any other at that point, perhaps its story, and by that point a visual novel would suffice, because tilting a control stick forward and occasionally tapping jump and shoot isnt really gameplay.
