I am watching videos on it and every person says something different, and there are like 5 games just for the 3DS, never mind other systems.
How the hell do I get into this?

Other urls found in this thread:
have you played any persona games
do you like first-person dungeon crawling
do you like srpgs
Start with SMT1 if you're a real man
smt iv is a pretty good starting point
just emulate it if you dont have a 3ds
I like srpgs, have not played any persona games, and am not super into first person dungeon stuff.
I was going to start with Devil Survivor but I was told to start with SMT IV.
But then I couldn't even find a copy of either for a reasonable price and I was considering starting with Devil Survivor 2 on the 3DS since a buddy would sell it to me for cheap
play persona 3 then play nocturne
Play Nocturne
Don't do this desu
The start of IV is too rough for a beginner
I am not criticizing you, but it just seems weird that literally everyone I talk to (discord, on here, irl, etc) all say something totally different.
Does it even make a difference where I start?
>I was going to start with Devil Survivor but I was told to start with SMT IV.
If Devil Survivor looks like fun, then play it.
>But then I couldn't even find a copy of either for a reasonable price and I was considering starting with Devil Survivor 2 on the 3DS since a buddy would sell it to me for cheap
Just emulate
devil survivor, nocturne and smt4 are pretty good places to start
with that said, a considerable number of anons here started with persona and ended up being smtfags all the same, so don't panic too much
Honestly it makes no difference where you start. Most people just recommend their favorite game or where they started. Nearly every SMT game is standalone and you don't need to know the story of any others to enjoy them. The only exception to this is DDS1/DDS2 which are obviously direct sequels. Start at whichever interests you the most.
>it just seems weird that literally everyone I talk to (discord, on here, irl, etc) all say something totally different
I don't think it's so weird, there's just no inherently obvious "best starting game." Personally I recommend Digital Devil Saga.
all of them are great games, you should be able to get into any of them except maybe SMT1&2. I just recommend starting as far back as you can and working your way up
Hypothetically, would it be better to play devil survivor 2 first or buy the DS version of desu instead of overclocked?
I really don't like emulating 3DS games and I don't want to pirate.
Thank you anons.
I think I am going to start with devil survivor 1 or 2, not totally sure yet.
>Hypothetically, would it be better to play devil survivor 2 first or buy the DS version of desu instead of overclocked?
If you think you'll play both then play 1 first.
>I really don't like emulating 3DS games
Why?
>I don't want to pirate
Just buy the games and play them on an emulator if it rankles your moral sensibilities, pussy.
OP is a underage fag and will spend 10mins on whatever shitty SMT game he decides to play and then go back to Fortnite or Pokemon
Assuming you mean emulating on a pc, the split screen feels weird on a monitor and I don't have a usb controller so the 3ds controls feel much better. Its intended to be played on a 3ds so I want to play it the way it is intended.
If you mean homebrew on the 3ds, then I don't want to do that since I already tried homebrewing my 3ds years ago when it was first coming out and it kinda messed something up, so I don't want to mess around with it any more.
why do you say that
Start off with whichever game seems to interest you the most. They're all pretty good with their pros and cons, and not all of them tell the same story so you could literally choose any of them.
Brief Overview of the Series:
>SMT1/2 - SNES First Person Dungeon Crawlers
>SMT3: Nocturne - PS2 Third Person RPG with mechanics built off the back of 2
>SMT4/Apocalypse - 3DS RPGs further built off 3 but may be seen as easier since the systems are more flexible
>Strange Journey/Redux - First Person Dungeon Crawlers on the DS 3DS made by the Etrian Odyssey people
>Devil Survivor 1/2 - DS/3DS Tactical RPGs
>Digital Devil Saga 1/2 - PS2 more traditional RPGs
That's basically it, pick one that sounds good and go for it. Everyone has their favorites.I like SMT4
Yeah, but I'd still like to throw a recommendation out for the people lurking the thread that will actually get somewhere in the series.
Whatever you do don't listen to the Nocturne shitters. Start with SMT IV Apocalypse. Then you can play IV and even Nocturne. The idiots who recommend Nocturne just do it because its an old game so they think its somehow better than the newer ones
>I don't have a usb controller
Oh maybe that guy calling you underage was right after all
Start with Nocturne.
It doesn't matter where you start. Just DON'T start with any Persona games as they're radically different from mainline: both thematically and in terms of gameplay.
All SMT games start slow. Knowing these zoomer retards he's going to die once and ragequit outta of it. There's already a huge red flag with the fact he's mentioning discord (bet OP is subscribed to r/megaten despite never playing the games) and he's asking what games to play despite a 10 second google search and then confused on why everyone is giving him different answers. Thanks Smash.
What kinda special retard are you? They're just fucking video games, pick one and start playing
DeSu 1 is one of my fav games of all time. great starting point.
ignore everyone and just play SMT IV
and cream yourself over the OST
Start with Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei and then stop because it's all a downhill from there
>mfw realizing that Persona hijacked the Frankenstein references when it started with Devil Summoner.
Also OP if SPRGs are your jam then go ahead with Devil Survivor (1 over 2). Sure physical copies are expensive as fuck but you can get digital (much cheaper, especially on sale) or emulate. MegaTen is a franchise where you can pretty much just jump into any series due to them being their own series/genre.
I literally just bought a 2DS XL and hacked it yesterday (too lazy to update my old 3DS XL) and it's literally idiot proof. Already got every SMT game for it again
>Sure physical copies are expensive as fuck
Are they? I saw them for like $15.
