This year I started working on it once every single day. Already about to finish the second area. Even if I’m very busy some days, even working on it for 5 minutes I count that. So it’s coming along nicely, but slowly. Still, much more progress has been made compared to working on it only once or twice a week like I would last year.

Currently writing up a small doc for a web browser game idea I had, not entirely sure how networking in those kinds of games work (or networking in general) so I'm trying to rope some other people into it to see if the idea is feasible at the scale I'm thinking.

I've decided on the first friendly race in my RPG to be a female only short stack race (for the starter area). Recently just finished polishing camera and movement code

It's going... rough. I keep getting stumped on basic mechanics implementation.

How do you even start? I had years of programming experience from various tech companies, but none of that seem to translate well into game programming. These game engines that supposedly make a lot of thongs trivial have such a high learning curve, and those tutorials that are locked via a paywall don't help either.

You can do it. I believe in you!

As for me, here's some recent progress.

Decided to put my primary 3D project on hold and swap over to a 2D game instead. I figure if I learn Unity in 2D I will be better equipped to deal with implementing stuff in 3D.

It sucks because my dream game concept requires 3D but it's just too rough to learn. I need to brush up on my Vector calculus as well.

THE STEAM STORE IS CLOGGED FULL OF HOT STEAMY SHITTY GAMES
STOP MAKING GAMES, THERE'S TOO MANY

and zoomers wouldn't like your game anyway, even if it was the best thing ever
zoomers only play fortnite and minecraft

Well you kinda solved your question. You have to do something and go out and educate yourself through videos, documents, etc. You could start with a really basic idea of a game you want to make or you could go out and find a Pong/Tetris tutorial which might help out more than you randomly running around trying to figure out how shit works.

I'm supposed to be writing music for my dev but I have had close to 0 motivation and inspiration for a while; it happens in spurts where I'll work for a few days, and then a week+ or two of fucking nothing. I don't know how to break out of it.

>Don't know shit about coding
>Google tutorial on YouTube
>It's some pajeet with a monotone voice
>Yawn 300 times in the first 10 minutes of the video
>Nearly fall asleep on the 11th
>Click off
>Play videogames
Why am I so lazy bros

have you tried not being lazy?

Wtf this is some high quality stuff man. Keep it up

trying to prototype a block puzzle game in the vein of puyo puyo/tetris/meteos etc. in unity

i thought it'd be more productive under quarantine but uncertainty really kills my motivation.
FWIW here's one of the tracks I need to rework:

Thanks user! Fleshed out his dialogue a bit

this sounds really cool, it reminds me of something, what was the inspiration?
also have you tried removing all distractions? other people, TV, chores, etc. I find even just a twitch tab open on my 2nd monitor makes me waste half my day

Buy bolt or playmaker

take the text tutorial pill

What's the best book I can read on 3D modeling? I'm playing around with Blender for a game and because I can draw my model I've made so far is alright, but the topology on the hands and head confuse me and I can't figure out how to make it right.

>this sounds really cool, it reminds me of something, what was the inspiration?
I appreciate the listen! It has a number of inspirations, from the Matrix ost (mainly Clubbed to Death), the Streets of Rage ost's, plus some other various sources.

I agree what I need to do is just shut people/other things out; I've been bad about shitposting/gaming too much. It's easier when I had a normal day-job/life routine but with the free time comes a lot of sloth.

blocking out random architecture and doodads/greebles whenever I have the itch for a game heavily leaning towards a similar style as Naissance, but with a kind of pseudo medieval style to its architecture
not strictly a walking sim but combat would be sparse and there'd be minimal inventory/item management.

also working on a HL1 and a Portal 2 mod but the HL1 mod kind of got put on hold due to level design block and a retarded stubborn unwillingness to move on to a different section of the game, and the Portal 2 mod was for a creepypasta meme that is already dated and the game concept has already been done better I feel.

Also I took up FFXIV and having too much fun playing it so that's eating into gamedev time

Every time you post this I can never tell which option is selected at the start. You are going to fix that right?

It's the one which is greyed out. The grey means your cursor's on the dialogue.

That's the thing. I've done tic-tac-toes in C++, and even a reversi game in fucking React.js but for the life of me, I do not have an understanding of using libraries in these game engines. It's like having a mastery over MS Paint, but being overwhelmed when trying out Photoshop.

Spent the week relearning Blender 2.8 because last time I used it I didn't switch from 2.7 in january. Fuck, you need some solid knowledge to not mess things up, while I think I could go back to coding quite easily, if I leave 3D making for a week I'll forget fucking everything

I do avatar commissions for some VRChat users, I am certainly a noob compared to some seasoned people in there but as usual there are people who think even the cheapest artist asks too much (when I used to charge 50 USD per base avatar.)

The map is ready to go. We're just doing the intro and outro stuff now, along with polish. I can already see some stuff we're gonna change in the full game, but I think what we've got here will be enough to tell people "We know how to make games and this is one you might like playing."

How shit is this?....... I'm not done yet.

Books > divine intervention > video tutorials

Is a good base.

I bet if you put photo textures on it, it'd look pretty cool, maybe you should visit the house and stay the night I'm sure it's not haunted

I'm working on my new 100% original rpgmaker game, donut steal, Knights of only Magic.
Victims: peasant, goblin, sprite and rogue. I'm thinking making rogue semi secret.

I meant Knights of only Might. Magic is gay and probably from the devil.

nice looking graphics so far user
looks silly but not in the bad way (yet!)
