I’m watching harry potter for the first time in a while and it’s making me realize how much I like the scenario of being a teenager away from parents and at a place where there’s only peers your own age. How many games have a setting like that?

Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia
Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Harry Potter games do

90% of anime and Japanese games

>watching

I can understand why you would like Harry Potter if you read it, but I can't see why you would be a fan if the only thing you watch is the movies. Only the first 3 are any good.

Three Houses and Persona (and most SMT) are exactly what you're looking for.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Lego Harry Potter: Years 1–4
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2
Lego Harry Potter: Years 5–7
Harry Potter for Kinect
Book of Spells
Book of Potions
Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

Pokemon is basically this

I don't know why you'd care to play a game crafted out of one of the dullest franchises in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody - just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though

"No!"

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

>Only the first 3 are any good
I mean that's like totally your opinion man

I'm still in awe at how incredibly popular Harry Potter became. I think younger people on this board don't even realize how fucking huge it was in the early 2000s. You guys were in diapers at the time but it was the biggest shit, like Star Wars and Marvel have been for the past few years. It was huge even before the moves started coming out. Is J. K. Rowling some kind of fucking genius or was it just luck and good marketing?

Anyway, it's funny that people think they can "cancel" her now, even though she already has infinite money from the series of books and movies which are already finished. You can't do anything to her, dumb-asses. She has "fuck you" money to last a hundred lifetimes.
>b-but she said women have vaginas
hahahaha she's still a bazillionaire, cope lmao

Bully mybe

Harry Potter movies are something I will admit to enjoying, even the teen drama movies.

>or was it just luck and good marketing?
Bingo. Rowling had the perfect sob story of being a broke, single mother which helped her marketability immensely, and other publishers deliberately take on works from similar types of women (see: the Twilight nutjob) in hopes that the formula works again.

The books had broad appeal. Everyone liked them.

>teenage characters
>school setting
>magic fights
it's the same appeal as anime but done in a more mainstream medium and less sexual to attract a broader audience.

persona games, 4 just went on steam
its like pokemon for people who grew out of pokemon

I'm a novelist. (Check me out on blackcatbooks.org)

Probably just good luck, really. I love the books, but their success isn't really replicable.

This. It also fills the isekai itch with Harry getting whisked to another world where he's the best

>"POTTEEEEEEERRR!!!!!! DID YOU PUT YOUR SHITTY CHARACTER IN THE SMASH BALLOT OF FIRE!!!!!

Attached: 1592607475909.png (524x682, 547.2K)

I enjoyed it as a kid, but by the time I got to the 6th book it was something that I really couldn't read through. I'm not sure if it's because the setting had lost all it's wonder and luster or if I had just gotten to a point in my life where I couldn't appreciate something made with so much mediocrity anymore when better written and constructed stories were available to me, but I think it was a combination of the two.

I think it's a fine series for children to get them a little bit more interested in reading and to get them more practice, but that's it. Otherwise I would agree that it's pretty shitty desu. Even then you should be exposing them to different authors with different styles and ideally different genera on top of it once you have their attention.

I appreciate the brazenness of your self-promotion but that website is truly terrible

Persona 3-5 do this well. Mainly 3, as you still technically live with an adult in 4 and 5.

my biggest disappointment with the movies is how the costume department gave up after the first two, everyone was wearing muggle clothes in their off time instead of robes. You even see purebloods in fancy tailored suits instead of robes, which defeats the purpose of how magicals are bad at intermingling with muggles due to their clothing.

The film makers had no idea what they were doing for sure.

Are you bros excited for a RPG set in the world of Harry Potter?
youtu.be/glG736Y0JTg
It's being announced sometime after the August 22nd DC Fandome event

I was excited until they went dead quiet on it for like 2 years and Warner Bros gaming dissolved or whatever the fuck happened. It will be okay at best.

No, Jo completely dropped the ball with the spin off material. The play and prequel movies were both awful.

Early HP made used of its setting to keep up the wonder of magic which is what pulled people in the first place. After that it wasn't a priority anymore.

the first 3 are good

Where is this footage from??? What's the game about?

Literally every JRPG ever made

The Harry Potter Games. Other than that, there's also Final Fantasy VIII. Really good game.

Why did it take them this long to make a Hogwarts roleplaying game???

wasn't JK Rowling accused of being a terf?

Who the fuck ranks books?

Yes lmao even Dan Radcliffe, Emma Watson and the other one went against her and said tranny lives matter

Bible Black was better.

>2021 release for next gen consoles.
>The company was bought by Warner Bros. in 2017 and has likely been working on the Harry Potter brand since then.

>Alongside the leaked video, VapeThisBro (who claims to have played the game as part of a survey group) posted a full description of the game as it appeared in 2018. It’s important to note the game’s long development cycle means this description and plot may have changed in the years since. Here’s what it said:

Together with Professor Elezar Fig, you embark on a journey through both familiar and never before seen locations to bring to light the truth behind these mysterious occurrences.

Unbalanced as fuck. Imagine you're not on Gryffindor. Fucking Dumbledore just looks at you and goes...

do you have any idea how big those movies were? tons of people got into harry Potter through the movies.

What the fuck this is literally my dream come true. Harry Potter has such an untapped potential in the gaming industry

Bloomberg

/lit/ does, and, as you can expect, the board is filled with pseuds.

Persona 5 pits you and your friends against all the shitty adults

Who the fuck cares? Trans aren't people

The standards for author websites are really, really low.

I'm not a web designer! Sorry. I'm trying my best, though.

>>The company was bought by Warner Bros. in 2017
This is false btw. The company was acquired in 2016 (it literally says it in the linkedin page of Avalanche) and they only officially announced that it was acquired in 2017.

time to adopt harry potter as our own. is rowlingposting a thing?

>Harry Potter has such an untapped potential in the gaming industry
Makes you wonder why noone seemed to dig in on that goldmine of a franchise. I think Rowling got more and more protective of it over the years

>a unique ability to track and identify remnants of a pottant [sic] ancient power
Oh, I've seen this before.

It shouldn't be hard to sell her the idea of an MMO if we tell her all the autistic rewrite and expansion on the lore she can put on that

I don't know how you can say that and then see the Fantastic Beasts movies, especially after how much she memed Dumbledore.

noooooooo
Fuck, why are these so fucking good?

I haven't read the books since I was in middle school, can anyone confirm if the "stretched his legs" bit of this pasta is true? Genuinely curious.

because the first two capture that feeling of wonder when entering literal wizardland perfectly and the third one captures the exact opposite, the utter dread from azkaban, which is more than most fantasy movies ever did. story-wise, they're pretty meh, but setting-wise, they're extremely memorable.

>You can't do anything to her, dumb-asses. She has "fuck you" money to last a hundred lifetimes.

Don't be so sure. They can't do anything to her, but they CAN do something to her IP, and there are alot of people on top who make such things happen.
