Thoughts? Will it save the Paper Mario franchise?
Paper Mario: The Origami King
No, but I'll likely buy it because it looks like a fun game to play with my GF.
can some explain to me why 64 and TTYD are considered "true" paper marios and all the others suck?
>gf
>GF
>GIRL
>FRIEND
Those two are more plot centered with fun gameplay.
>stream ends
>retard-kun goes into chat just to say that the combat was repetitive
>explains why he rushed through every encounter after a while
Damn what an awful game. Even the livestream shows that you can ignore almost every encounter since there's no real punishment for doing so. Who could have thought that having a battle mechanic that just showered you with gold instead if giving you XP wasn't a good idea?
Fuck no. Have you seen the gameplay? It looks like a mess. Not to mention the game graphically looks WORSE than Color Splash. Everything is so flat and there's barley any dynamic lighting. Most of the setpieces are just shreds of paper which is insanely lazy. Seriously, look up footage from Color Splash and tell me with a straight face that Oragami King looks like a step up.
Honest Question: Let's say Sticker Star and Color Splash never came out and this came out before all them, would you be more forgiven on it and let this game slide?
It would be taken as another spinoff like SPM, which would still piss people off because the fans still want a proper sequel.
Traditional RPG combat that relies on managing unique party members and abilities, rather than spamming gimmicky items or just flat-out avoiding battles because you don't need to level up at all.
These games were more about telling a story than fucking paper gimmicks woven into both the dialogue and world.
No, it has the same problems. The battles are pointless.
>battles could have had exp to increase your hp, ring moves and actions per turn counter instead of it being given all arbitrarly per fight
It shows in the last areas when there are a fuckton of enemies and you dont have enough moves/actions to end them in one turn, they could ACTUALLY HAVE MADE THE GAME TOLERABLE BUT THEY FUCKED IT UP
Imagine having a GF and treating her with a mediocre game just because it looks "fun".
Treat your girl to a game you know you both will love.
>tfw this image is literally the fifth boss
Man even the bosses were awful. They range from pisseasy to tedious as hell, there's no in between. Man everything was just a disaster in the end. Can't believe the series will only continue to dip like this
That would probably be worse. Imagine the most recent paper mario game being super. That’s a long time between the two games, so fans would be interested in seeing nintendo bring back a fun series. Then they show the plot, a heavy focus on paper but it’s alright since we get partners like bowser jr. and kamek. Then the battle system shows up, and people might think that it’s an evolution of ttyd using a 3d stage. Equipment and accessories? Cool, more stuff to find.
And then the game is fully shown. That would be such a stain on the paper mario games because of the long time between games then.
Better question is who was the fucking retard who did this for 3 games now?
Why has this man ignored criticism?
AND WHY THE FUCK HASN'T HE BEEN FIRED?
color splash sold 850k to the wii u's 13.5 million consoles
switch has about 4 times as many units out as the wii u did
origami king should sell about 3-3.5 million
No
Then it would be seen as the Federation Force of Paper Mario
Let's see what you've got.
It's Tanabe and he is too high up in the Nintendo chain of command to be fired
Unless this game fails financially (it wont) he isn't going anywhere, and you can bet if it does they will blame the director besides the fact that the last 2 directors had no say and just nodded and agreed to all of Tanabe's ideas.
Don't let shitposters tell you otherwise, Tanabe is the one at fault and the directors are just paper puppets he uses to control the games. Just read the fucking interviews for the 3 last PM games.
Tanabe is a real hack user, the fact that they let this man touch this IP annoys me. I just want someone to shove his shit and tell miyamoto to shut up when he tries giving ideas because the series deserves better
>the directors are just paper puppets
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO EASY TO MAKE AN ACTUAL DESIGN OUT OF THE STAPLER HOLY SHIT. COME ON.
IT ALREADY LOOKS LIKE A CHAIN CHOMP, JUST GIVE IT GOOGLY EYES, STAPLE TEETH AND A STAPLE CHAIN WITH SOME LITTLE PAPER OC HOLDING THE CHAIN TO BE THE REAL CHARACTER WHO CONTROLS IT WHILE THE STAPLE IS JUST HIS GIANT PET CHOMP OR SOME SHIT COME THE FUCK ON AAAAAAAAA
Can we get these pics in full resolution? It looks like there were some unique toads that got scrapped lol
Why is rubber band the only unique one?
You guys have had the same discussion for the past paper mario games. Why even bother with this franchise anymore if its clear Nintendo isn't listening anymore?
I'm playing ttyd and it's crazy how much stuff like stylish moves and those dickheads in the crowd add to the combat
reminder that they browse this place for their comedy
LEAKERS FOUND A SECRET BOSS
SS3/CS2, Same pitfalls with a new coat of paint (or should we say Papermache'd over?) apparently some kids with garbage taste like that. But anyone "Cautiously Optimistic" that it would be a "return to form" can drop their expectations it is anything other then the same fare as the last two ga,es.
digs a deeper hole for the franchise to be buried in.
it goes beyond being merely lazy at this point. the lack of effort is fucking shameless.
Meanwhile in origami king the crowd just make fights piss easy by either rushing them or throwing you healing items and moves. Pay to win bby
>bad guy is bad because he can't read
BRAVO KOJIMA
So it was basically the "Sibling deletes save files to write "I love you big bro"" Comic?
Ollie did nothing wrong.
>Brought back partners
>Made them cookie cutter Mario characters
>Made them temporary
Ar........ Are we being punked?
not just that
>best partner fucking kills himself to advance the plot
They're much more traditional JRPGs, with more involved stories and progression systems to boot.
64 is more what you might think of if you heard the words 'Mario RPG'. Story takes some liberties with establishing a Mario World lore but it's not too nuts ultimately Everything still fits safely within the Mario aesthetic on the whole.
TTYD feels like a really involved and somewhat unhinged fan-mod of 64 based on an early 2000s edgy mario sprite comic. It's very weird but also incredible.
The dirty little secret of the Paper Mario franchise is that both of the first two games are just really solid JRPGs on their own with some Mario aesthetic and charm thrown in.
The big issue that Color Splash and Sticker Star run into is that they are wearing the skin of Paper Mario aesthetically and in the presentation of the battles, but it's very clear the devs hate JRPGs with a passion
nostalgia and Zig Forums is mostly millennials so they were kids when they played it
Its just an excuse to snuggle, she only plays games for the soundtrack and whatnot anyway.
>put a white border around Paper Mario
>Immediately becomes soulless
Why is this
But that's not all! They just attack sometimes and mainly don't do much because fucking hacks couldn't let you have control for them to have their own attacks and/or support moves. They're completely pointless
