Final Fantasy 12

It's a great Final Fantasy and everyone saying otherwise is a contrarian zoomer, especially when The Zodiac Age remaster exists

xii-kun you are mentally ill

its a great game but i wish the combat system was different. gambits fucking suck and once you figure it out the game basically plays itself.

The game would be better without Vaan and Penelo.

It's a good, but flawed game. If it had no compromises, better pacing and made some things a bit more explicit then it could had been a masterpieces.
Looking back, it has similar problems to Type-0. Another what-could-had-been entry in the FF franchise.
Every fucking time.

Where did that grotesque render on the right come from?

I think it's Dissidia NT

was thinking of playing it again, lemme just go get my rubber bands and something to watch while I wait for the game to end.

Gameplay is absolute shit and you can't deny it

Hmmm i say story is way worse.

Relax zoom zoom I was kidding. I don't play shit games that deviate combat styles because kids have trouble paying attention.

they called him crazy because he spoke the truth

Record you trying this and see how it works

I've just started it for the first time, and it's pretty cool
Wish there was a zoom out button to see more of Rabanastre, though I know it was like this because of PS2 limitations, still incredibly impressive for its time though

People need to learn to make better videos of menu based combat. Fast clicking through commands conveys nothing.

The problem is that no matter how many fancy inputs you record yourself doing it's still completely overkilling it when you can beat that fight with gambits and leaving your controller on the table
Unless you do hunts and superbosses the game's main story only has like 2 or 3 fights where manual inputs are required to get past in a comfortable manner, and most of those fights are placed early on where you won't have many tools at your disposal on your first playthrough because you simply don't know better

This is pretty much a staple of the series to have piss easy main story and hard side content. In fact FFXII does it better because the challenging content comes in waves starting from the beginning whereas other games only allow you to test yourself when you reach the end.

>a contrarian zoomer
>zoomer
>for not liking the game that stablished "turns ain't cool anymore" in Final Fantasy.

No, OP, you are the zoomer.

there are people here who have not even heard of 122333 challenge.

>XII is good
So stunning and brave for saying that, take my reddit gold. If you wanted an XII thread just say that

Ah, such high hopes I once had...

>for not liking the game that stablished "turns ain't cool anymore" in Final Fantasy.
FFXII is 100% an ATB game with a programming layer applied on top of it. It was even made by the father of the ATB and Job system.

Reddas was such shit.

I liked it. Never got where the hate came from.

As if FFXV-kun wasn't enough, now we also have FFXII-kun too.
How it is that the worst games in the series give birth to the most autistic shills?

Vann being a pointless main character
the game playing itself

If SquareEnix followed up with 12's formula and fine-tuned it we would've reached peak JRPG. Instead they shat out 13 and abandoned traditional ATB/Turn-Based for shitty Action RPG gameplay that they can barely get right (FF7R was only a small step in the right direction from the abomination of FF15)

S-surely next time
I'm so fucking pissed that a gambit system doesn't get used more frequently in other games. It has so much potential yet it remains completely unused

Ashe is the main character.
The game has more depth in mechanics and challenge than other FF games. Trying to hide yourself behind a completely optional gambit system that is objectively good doesn't hide this fact.

Besides the obvious, which Judge had the coolest armor?

>Trying to hide yourself behind a completely optional

then why is it heavily encouraged?

"The game is good if you ignore the game mechanics" is not a valid argument

Sexy girls are a big plus for a game. Can't have a proper FF without attractive girls.

>we had to witness the birth of a XII-kun

I wish a VI-kun would rise

Some people just want to chill drunk after a long day of work, not play a Dark Souls/Nioh/pick your example clone.

I never said that was bad, I just don't think it's fair to sell XII as being some sort of deep and intricate game just because you have the possibility of killing a boss with 500 more inputs than it's actually required

>All was stripped from me! Only the hatred for the brother who fled our homeland remains mine! Tell me Basch, why do you forsake that which you hold most precious? Look, Basch. You're friends die, as they must, for surely you cannot protect them. What can shame hope to keep safe? Know now the despair you have taught me.

You both misunderstand me. The point isn't that you have to ignore it. The point is that the gambit system is an entire spectrum that goes from full manual control to full automation.
Final Fantasy XII entirely solves shitty, automatic AI system like in Kingdom Hearts, FFXIII, FFXV, FFVII Remake, Tales of, or pretty much any RPG with an AI system by giving you the tools to make the AI you want to make by yourself.

1. It's a player-made system. You're creating the conditions by yourself instead of having to suffer automatic AI, so this is already more involving than most RPGs in this regard
2. You have full control over the control you want to have. There is nothing in the game that states the goal is to have every situation covered by the gambits. You can decide to control every character, or only one, or no one.

So, really, I don't understand the argument there. FFXII is the only game where having control over something that you typically do not have control over is seen as a bad thing. You are acting as if you have had a gun to your temple FORCING you to automate EVERYTHING when it isn't the case at all. The only issue is yourself because you think the gambit system was a goal, when it is nothing more than a convenience that allow you to tailor the experience as you see fit.

I found the combat rather fun and somewhat challenging. How much you use gambits is entirely up to you.

I only used
>Foe: Party Leader's Target : Attack
>Foe: Targeting Ally : Attack

And I used a libra gambit for the second half of the game, never used gambits on the character I was controlling.
Battle speed set to max and its basically a fast atb based real time with pause system.

>So long as I can curse your name, I shall not be defeated.

Since when is 12-kun a thing?

Barry-kun I understood considering how much of an autistic sperg he was.

Personally, I only used gambits for buffs so I could have constant haste/float/libra/decoy/bubble
I think this is a much better system than having to do it by myself every time.
FFXII solved the tedium of doing the same thing over and over again. I'd rather focus on the things that is interesting than the repetitive (yet necessary) options that is the nature of RPGs.

>I played on easy mode and the game was too easy!!!

Fucking retards.

Someone who isn't a retard, nice to see on Zig Forums, very rare.

penelo's skin tight onepiece is amazing though.

Everyone is acting like a retard on purpose when they talk about this game. Absolute cavemen who think saying "game play itself" over an entirely optional system that is objectively good is a legitimate argument.
They'd rather press the attack button for 40 hours and call a game a masterpiece. Maybe that's why they enjoy FFVII Remake so much.

youtu.be/SwSJBws6pGo?t=706
Will they ever top this moment?

Gambits are good for keeping buffs up on the especially harder hunts and Espers.

>I only know how to play full auto or full manual
