How are things looking for the future of Ace Attorney?
I was hoping that with its ongoing porting to steam it would have been revitalized but this looks grim

The same thing that happens to all capcom properties where the director and writer leaves the company.
Legendary Lawyer coming to kickstarter soon.
He already killed the IP before he bounced. The only thing that matters is Shu takumi is still at Capcom and is working on something new.
It's probably done for, Shu has no interest in writing it anymore.
It MAY happen but I doubt it's even gonna be good.
I'm still waiting for new steam ports to keep on playing this series, hopefully they don't kill it
The mainline games this guy directed aren't worth playing, you already experienced the best this series has to offer.
that's sad to hear
>Legendary Lawyer coming to kickstarter soon.
if it is anything similar to what happened with Castlevania and Bloodstained, I'd be fine with that.
If it's anything like Mega Man, not so much.
If anything this is okay, they made so many games already. Capcom just needs to port the later games and the ones that never made it west.
Should I play anything past Apollo Justice? I have my doubts.
Yamazaki already said at the time that he won't be working on AA anymore after AA6
you probably know this, why do you keep asking the same thing over and over
Don't listen to him, the series past AA3 is still great. Play them and form you own opinions
Your guy is Shu Takumi, he directed more than just the original trilogy, play his other games.
Fuck this news is the worst. I had assumed the next game was already deep into development but that can't be the case unless Shu was on it all this time. Hopefully he either comes back to the main series or they find someone good to replace him. Capcom better not be retards and shut it down.
Would be cool if this guy starts a new game in the genre at a new studio though. The one thing holding back the series IMO is the fanbase's attachment to the established characters. The gameplay structure itself has so much untapped potential, so if this can create an avenue for more content in that vein while letting AA pander to AA fans that could actually be a good thing overall.
Honestly it's kind of hard to fuck up what essentially amounts to a visual novel in terms of resources spent. It would depend on whether or not the quality of writing would remain the same.
Sure, Anyone hoping the series isn't dead should play the 3ds games before getting sad about it.
AA was never good.
ghost trick was amazing tho.
No shit the dude is getting fired if DGS 2 ouperfomed in both reviews and sales AA8.
yeah that's true, especially considering how few games with that gameplay system there are (even less if you only consider the good ones)
Layton vs Wright is fun enough.
Now hopefully Shu Takumi won't come back as he might just try to shit on Wright and make him a fucking hobo again.
I just want the whole series on pc
What's the state of Layton anyway? Done forever?
>give Takumi aka the actual director who is good at making AA games the good to go for making the spin-off game he wanted
>also give him way more budged than the main games
>also give him the character designer who can actually design characters
It's old news, he wanted to leave after DD, and actually left after SoJ.
pc version a shit. 3/DS are the ultimate editions. comfy second screen for inventory manegment and answer selection, not hiding the art, it's the only way to play.
AA infighting is the most cancerous example of nitpickering bullshit dogging down discussion I've ever seen. The series has consistently been oscillating between very good and great, but people fucking dogpile each other just so they can establish a "canon" hierarchy of which game is better and make mountains out of molehills and shit on each other for daring to not hate certain entries. Fuck all y'all. The weakest two are JFA and DD btw and they're still both very good.
why don't they bring these officially to the west? does capcom not like money?
Is the english fan translation for this good or is it the usual literal over translation with no soul like every fan translation project?
Juror 2 is cute! Cute!
In limbo. They tried to reboot with a new character but the game was by far the weakest in the series (ironically the only part that wasn't a disappointment was Katrielle herself, although she's still no Layton). They have been remastering the games on mobile so people suspect those remasters will hit Switch in a collection. That's about it. No word on any actual new games.
They wrote themselves into a corner with the japan = california schtick and don't know how to resolve that for a prequel.
It's very good, great localization kudos to the editors. You can tell that british people worked on it instead of a bunch of SEAs
Sherlock Holmes IPs
just buy a 3ds and hack it, its not that expensive.
>The series has consistently been oscillating between very good and great
not really, tho.
You shouldn't listen to retards trying too hard to fit in, JFA and AJ are the worst games in the series and they still aren't that bad. Go for AAI duology -> DD and SoJ -> DGS duology.
Most of the game takes place in London except the first case of the 2 games.
It's really not that hard to solve. Phoenix has Japanese heritage. Wow so hard. The real reason is Sherlock Holmes copyright squatting in certain territories.
AAI1 is kinda alright, AAI2 is one of the best in the series. DD is a slight improvement on AJ (not saying much) and a lot of people like SoJ because of its conclusion to Apollo's character arc.
>They tried to reboot with a new character but the game was by far the weakest in the series (ironically the only part that wasn't a disappointment was Katrielle herself, although she's still no Layton).
I dun geddit, who's the Layton Bros? how does Katrielle fit in? who's supposed to be the new Layton?
>also don't localize it even though it has more soul and polish than the mainline 3DS games
fuck capcom
Maybe the same fate as Banjo as in getting in to Smash as a playable fighter but nothing else since Ace Attorney as a series has grown stale ever since the original trilogy.
Investigations was pretty cool and while I like Apollo's unofficial trilogy, I hate many of the decisions they took with AA4, 5 and 6 since Apollo's character is just a mess the more you look into him.
They've also missed a golden opportunity to truly retire Phoenix after AA4 and give him complete mentor status as an ace hobo.
>also give him the character designer who can actually design characters.
This.
Feels good to not look at characters that feel like belong in YGO. The direction for the last 2 games feels too over the top.
...What? DGS is notorious for being a flop. Japs hated DGS1's non-ending.
Sherlock Holmes is old as fuck, i dont think it has any IP copyright
As far as I know the Sherlock Holmes character itself is public domain, only a few specific stories are still copyrighted.
My guess for why they didn't bring DGS to the West is the same as why they didn't wring AAI2, why DD and SoJ were digital only releases or why they stopped translating the games to European languages after AJ: They gave up on selling the series to the West and are just doing the bare minimum.
