gaming laptops some sort of meme scam? Im kind of a noob and nowadays out of the loop from tech and games. If I buy an expensive gaymer toy like this in the upper range, will this easy play for example Cyberpunk on max everything?

You're paying just as much as a high end current PC, except it's two generations behind in specs. They are also prone to failure within three years because they all suffer from overheating.
The only reason to get one is if you travel a lot and have $1,500-$2,000 to burn. You're better off getting something like a high end desktop and pair it with some portable gay shit like a switch.
Theyre perfectly reasonable. Just plan on spending around 40% more, and understand that repairs are 2000% more difficult and expansive if it comes to that.
ok but is this shit play new gayms like cyberpunk on max everything in good fps or shit graphics?
Assuming the same price laptop will give you much weaker system. Laptops are also much more prone to overheat.
>Cyberpunk on max everything
No. Fully maxed C2077 will probably require quite powerful system for RTX alone. If W3 is anything to judge by CDPR knows how to optimize their games, so it will run of toasters just fine. On min/mid settings of course.
Personally I'd rather get a proper PC unless you really value mobility of laptops.
Probably on low to medium settings at best
Have to use a laptop since I get deployed a lot, unless you’re planning on buying an expensive gaymer laptop then don’t bother. Bought mine on sale for like $1300 and it plays pretty much everything on max settings
get a thinkpad from 10 years ago for less than 200

This shit here is the absolute best for a gaming laptop and all you'll need. Just wait for a sale.
>in college
>everyone busts out a small thin notebook to use excel or word on at most.
>dude walks in with a xbox huge odd square backpack
>Pulls out a obvious gaming laptop and plunks it down on the table
>Laptop literally twice if not three times as big as everyone elses. Fucking unwieldy for excel and word
>Everyone is now doing thier assingment
>All of sudden you hear the dudes fans kick in, everyone turns to look at him
Do you really want to be that guy?
They'll play the games you put on them and even have good performance but this works best while the machine is still new. Before long, you're going to start having heating issues and not long after that, those issues are going to be hard to circumvent. When it's time to upgrade, you can't just upgrade a part. You need a whole new machine and the prices are way higher than desktop counterparts with the same hardware.
>give no shits
>spent class playing left4dead
>still make an A
Why is there no in between for PCs and laptops? Why don't they make briefcase sized PCs with proper cooling that come paired with a laptop-like monitor/keyboard combo?
Because that's retarded just commit to one thing or at least build a miniatx but that's mostly stupid as well
Buy a cheap ass laptop for school work ( And I mean a proper cheap ass laptop, you don't need a new macbook to run excel and word and youtube) or whatever you need then spend the rest on a proper computer. A compact case, a small monitor, and a keyboard/mouse combo does not take up much space. If you have a desk any larger than pic related you have enough space for a PC.
Ignore this guy. Nobody cares.
Just turn off the LEDs. Thank you.
fucking no why the fuck would you think that?
>using linux in front of class mates
>teacher says "Ok students, now open photoshop"
>start furiously typing away at terminal to install Wine
>Errors out the ass
>Everyone else has already started their classwork
>I start to sweat
>Install GIMP
>"Umm...what the fuck is THAT user?" a girl next to me asks
>I tell her its GIMP and can do everything that photoshop does and IT'S FREE!
>"Ok class, now draw use the shape tool to draw a circle!" the teacher says
>I fucking break down and cry and run out of the class
>I get beat up in the parking lot after school
if you're a poorfag, don't bother
Buy a Thinkpad. Literally every other choice is trash. Thinkpads are designed for like the military and shit, they don't have any bullshit and are as sturdy as a tank.
Gaming laptops will literally melt themselves after 2 - 3 years of frequent use. They are designed to break
desu I just need a laptop I can play dota on.
I don't really care that much about other video games. And it'll run all indieshit anyway.
>all that
Get out turd worlder
I've had mine for around 5 years now and the main problem I am noticing is that the keyboard is breaking, because the glue on the keys is melting. Also, a few of my more frequent keys broke, but that's more due to my habit of slamming the keys fairly hard when typing.
laptops used for anything other than work are a meme
maybe but why a laptop? you wont be able to play it on your lap because it will become as hot as the sun.
You won't be able to max Cyberpunk most likely, but a decently specced laptop like the Asus you posted will get you most of the way there. Just be aware that you're going to be paying a significant premium for portability, and if something breaks it won't be a cheap fix. I've got an Asus RoG down in my living room hooked up to the TV that's actually a great machine (1TB SSD, i7, 970M, 16 GB RAM) that I salvaged from a pawnshop after they couldn't find a buyer on account of the busted hinge. I can run mostly maxed Witcher 3 no problem on it.
i bought one almost five years ago. still works, but it's slow as hell now and it barely ever managed to run anything on higher than medium graphics settings. ran Dark Souls with DSfix like butter though. had to keep it on a cooling pad to prevent overheating and keep it plugged into the wall because it drained its battery in like 30 minutes. looking back on it, it wasn't worth it. only exception i can think of is if you move around a lot or don't want to make room in your living space for a desktop.
they are pretty good for running adobe creative suite shit though ngl.
>gaming laptops some sort of meme scam?
Yes. Buy a desktop but only buy a desktop when RTX30XX series are out and 20XX series are cheaper
I've had 2 gaming laptops over the past 7 years, I travel multiple times per year(between visiting parents and going to college) so it was a must. The first was a Dell Inspiron, cant remember exactly and somewhat on the low end, it ran Witcher 2 on 30fps, low settings, And Skyrim on Medium, ~40fps.
My current laptop is a 2.5 year old HP Omen with an I7 and GT965m, not the best, not the worst, but was very affordable. Emulates all but the most demanding PS3 games at stable framerates. Here is the frames on the games I currently play:
ESO:60fps at about medium
TESIV,TESV,FO:NV: 60fps, max settings
DA:I: 40fps at high, 60fps at medium
Plague Tale:Innocence(highly recommend, support small studios that make soulful games, even if theyre linear):40fps at high/ultra, 50 at medium, 60 at high
RE2 remake:50fps at high, 60 at low
Nier Automata:have not played it in a while, with some mod that fixes its graphics settings I think I got 50+fps at high
TW3:~50 after fiddling alot with settings, had to turn off AA and filtering though
Rocket League and Smite:60fps at max
>tl;dr, an almost 3 year old "gayming" laptop gives me very respectable frames at decent quality, a "new" laptiop will likely give you 60fps on the newest games if you do not plan on playing at MLG 4k resolution 144FPS and whatnot, hope this helps
I need something to do some 3D modelling and photoshop on too, should I still get one of these?
I recently bought a gaming laptop from necessity of travelling a lot. In 8 months it has become a nuclear reactor overheating. It can only run games at low or else it literally heats my house. Even if you are in my situation of travelling a lot, a MiniPC with a small keyboard, mouse, monitor will serve better.
Had like two lads in my math class with huge gayming laptops and no fans disturbed our time. Quit bullshitting, nobody cares.
I can watch cartoons while I shit.
>You're paying just as much as a high end current PC, except it's two generations behind in specs
No it's not. You're paying for current-gen high end PC for current-gen mid-spec performance plus portability.
>They are also prone to failure within three years because they all suffer from overheating
Only if you're a pleb who don't know how to open your laptop to clean and repaste. Better yet, use liquid metal.
>in b4 you cannot use liquid metal with laptops, they spill etc
It's not an issue if you create a proper insulating barrier. I've been doing it for years and I carry my laptop to work daily. It's only a problem if you drop your laptop, but in that scenario you're fucked either way.
What about this?
