Alright guys we gotta start putting our foots down. Have you guys noticed the recent influx in TV, movie, etc. stars co-opting video games? And the trend with turning games into just straight up movies at this point (Death Stranding being the latest big example probably until this). The key point of a game is GAMEplay. Literally every game is gonna be a point and click soon if we don't tell outside actors to fuck off and focus on the gameplay. This latest thing with Far Cry 6 starring a literal A-list TV actor is starting to show things are going in a bad direction
Alright guys we gotta start putting our foots down. Have you guys noticed the recent influx in TV, movie, etc...
Publishers have no fucking idea how to make good games. They're clueless.
They know how to make games that sell, and they know how to sell them, I'll give them that. So they'll just throw money at anything they perceive could improve the standing of a game, and possibly increase sales, and that's it. They're not thinking any deeper than that. The fact FarCry and AssCreed games are garbage clones isn't an issue to them, they're making millions off of it, and it's all that matters.
Artists aren't the issue, the real issue is publishers are directed by people who have no passion, nor even a vague understanding, of video games, and see this as a mere business.
It works exactly like in the movies, you put a great name on your game and half of the marketing is already done.
If you are going to blame something, then blame the overfunded marketing budget instead of the development one.
Also Giancarlo Esposito is a great actor, nigger.
You are a fucking retard.
yeah, while a fresh new villain would be pretty interesting - im actually glad they did it this way
because now they have a expectation to live up to
breaking bad as 10/10, so they better make the game 10/10
it's a story driven series, op. as story driven games get higher budgets and higher playerbases, of course they're going to borrow notes from other story driven media like movies. and that's not really bad at all. people who don't have crippling social disabilities like you can enjoy story driven franchises and appreciate things like high acting budgets for important characters, cinematic planning etc. just as much as they can appreciate things like complex features in gameplay driven games. the two are equal
also lol at death stranding being your idea of le moviegame boogeyman
How fucking retarded are you with this mindset
you do realize that Mass Effect is considered one of the greatest franchises in gaming and it has a boatload of hollywood actors
oh fuck they used an actor from a famous TV series in a video game? fuck fuck bros it's over the hobby is being taken over oh god guys it's over we basically can't play video games anymore time to move on
Death Stranding does put a lot of stock into the number of celebrities depicted in it
And they're not even instantly recognizable megastars, it's a popular TV actor surrounded by guys that are wealthy and famous but only Hollywood enthusiasts would actually recognize, like it was made explicitly to fuck with Zig Forums
VIDEOGAMES ARE SO EXPENSIVE TO DEVELOP WE NEED TO GIVE THEM $70 BECAUSE OF INFLATION! COME ON GUYS IT'S COSTS OF DEVELOPMENT NOT THE HIRING OF ACTORS! GIVE THEM MORE MONEY!
To be fair, it was hot when I found out I could watch Fragile furiously eating another chick's asshole in an "art" film
Nigger, he's been in games before. Ever play payday?
Cyberpunk burned like half it's budget on keanu.
AAA is dead and indies are AAA inspiring twitter faggots who think they'll all be the next undertale if they put enough lesbians in their games.
Unless you plan on making games yourself, just stick to stuff released before 2013.
>A list
>tv actor
This is a paradox
The difference with mass effect is they're actually acting They're not just using their likeness to advertise the game though
The circlejerk over Keanu Reeves being in Cyberpunk unironically put me off buying that game
OP's point rings true however that having actors actually physically portray their appearance in games is unnecessary. Their voice was one thing, yes an inflate of the budget, but whatever. But the second they physically act out the performance AND lend their appearance, it's just unnecessary. These same companies complain that games are getting too expensive to make and then pull shit like this while they ask you for more money.
> A list TV actor
>In the TV bracket, they are an A lister
Here you go, retard
It generally annoys me too, and I genuinely like Keanu. Point Break is the greatest movie ever made, but I don't need to see his face in a videogame surrounded by thousands of unfamiliar faces created by the art team.
Star Citizen has a really good looking cast and I'm looking forward to it. Also this shit isn't new, Mark Hamill was in Wing Commander, Keifer in Metal Gear, etc.
>? And the trend with turning games into just straight up movies at this point (Death Stranding being the latest big example probably until this)
You have not played Death Stranding if you think this. Seriously, the gameplay-to-cutscene ratio is huge.
>Pagan Min was right
>Joseph Seed was right
>Anton Castillo is right
I dare Ubisoft to have the balls to have a 2nd plotline where you support him this time around instead of being yet another brave antifa freedom fighter
Walking 10 miles between towns is not gameplay
Hm hm
That's all you need to sell your shit product
>"WOAH GIANCARLO ESPOSITOOOOO YEAAAAAAAH JUS LIKE BREAKEN BED LES GU LES GU PREORDING AS WE SPEAK DIS GON BE EPIICCCC"
Then they play the game and he shows up like 3-4 times in total during the story that goes nowhere and the rest of the game is just the same copypaste outpost cleaning simulator as always
This is why The Father worked better. At least his actor is smaller-time all things considered.
IT'S ME AGAIN.
Hello. I will keep saying this until it blows up. We are pushing "games as art" in the wrong direction. An artistic medium is held on its own merits on how it tells a story through what it has to offer. Gaming can tell a story unlike other mediums through interaction and, well, gameplay.
Let's say for example that TLOU 2 is the best story ever in a game (I'm not saying it is; this is for example purposes). However, no matter what you think about its gameplay, it's well put together for what it is. It's good, maybe even pretty good. HOWEVER, the gameplay is not groundbreaking nor does it complement the story in a way that can't be done better if it was just shown in a film. It's serviceable enough to not be distractedly bad or jarring to keep you focused on the story.
Just to pile on the examples, imagine The Godfather doesn't exist in our universe at all but then someone makes The Godfather as a game. This game is literally cutscenes of the film but to see more of the story, you have to play a round of Tetris first. Is this a good game? Or is it a great story told in the wrong medium?
Obviously, that's a bit extreme. But you get my point. Games with really good stories that put gameplay second are harming the medium as an artistic platform. Games like Journey in which gameplay is an essential tool in telling the story are what we should be focusing on (IM NOT SAYING JOURNEY IS THE BEST OR WORST IM SAYING ITS AN EXAMPLE).
Games that continue to push this idea of film/television knock offs with gameplay sprinkled between are hurting games as a respected platform. You may like games like this and I do too; I'm not saying they are bad in any way. I'm saying that these games however are not what we should be pushing as our examples of "look! We are just like film and music and..."
Joseph Seed worked because he was right
I mean, you're not wrong user.
The problem is not having actors but the gameplay itself, Capcom proved us that you can have real people in the game maintaining the gameplay aspect dope af, same with Death Stranding, I'm not defending it but the only fact that people don't like the gameplay is because it's experimental as shit, and again I'm not saying this is positive but surely proves that you can have actors and focus on gameplay (even if it turns out shit)
But it worked for others and is unironically a successful selling point. Welcome to marketing
Oh well sorry OP, perhaps we should go back to featuring antagonists like those from the previous game to make you happy.
Zig Forums is pathetic
