Now that the dust has settled...
Now that the dust has settled
Even the Definative Edition is mediocre. Donte is a far cry from how old Dante played. The graphics are an eyesore. Shit story. Virgin will never be a great antagonist like Vergil. Also I'll never forget the first time I fought the Hunter..... Fucking hand glitch.
It was better than DMC5.
Well I'd rather play that any day over DMC2
Should I try to beat DMC1 on its harder modes or should I jump into the next installment?
I enjoyed it but man it does feel clunky to the bits of DMC3 I played.
Just go into DMC3 if you find it to be that much better.
If you like DMC 1 then play on hard. if you want to play the rest of the series then Skip 2 and the reboot.
Better than 2 and 4.
DMC1 8/10
DMC2 4/10
DMC3SE 9/10
DMC4SE 7.5/10
DmC:DE 5.5/10
DMC5 9/10
I will never not hate this shit.
>5 weapons with unique gimmicks
>3 guns with unique abilities besides shooting
>mode affects more than one button
>snatch
>DT is actually strong
Better than DMC4 Dante.
It's still a shit game
>LOOK I PREUSS 2 BUTTUNS NOUW ISNTED OUF 1
>DUNTIE DOESNOT HAB MORE UNIQE WEPONS IN 4, REBOT HAB MORE WEPON
>MOUR DEPFTH THUN DMC4 DUNTE
No way DMC2 is only slightly below average. It's 2/10 and that's only because it works on a technical level.
DMC4 dante devil trigger is op shit what are you talking about?
>shit game
>ugly graohics
>looks worse than 2008 game
>useless weapons
>terrible story and characters (which is the main reason why they made this reboot in 1st place)
>shit tons of plotholes
>the plot is just a rip off from they live and futurama
do i need to add more?
>I PREUSS 2 BUTTUNS NOUW ISNTED OUF 1
DMC always had you hold one button and press another one. This "issue" with DMC can be solved by simply making modes a toggle, which is the way they're usually handled. Add directional inputs+lock-on and your average Donte weapon has about as many moves as Dante weapons in 4. But modes in DmC weren't made toggles for a variety of reasons that would escape any who thinks style and weapon switching are deep or engaging systems because you can swap them really fast.
Here's the math, here's Dante's weapons in 4:
>Rebellion: two combos, one air combo, six directionals, one air directional
>Gilgamesh: two combos, five directionals, two air directionals
>Lucifer: two combos, two directionals, one air directional, two ground/air directional
That's 7 combos, 19 directionals.
And here's the reboot:
>Rebellion: two combos, three directionals, two air combos, one air directional
>Osiris: two combos, three directionals, two air combos, one air directional
>Arbiter: two combos, two air/ground directionals
>Aquila: two combos, three directionals, two air combos, one air directional
>Eryx: two combos, two directionals, two air directionals
That's 16 combos, 16 directionals.
DmC Dante has an indisputably larger devil arm moveset despite the shortcomings of the game's systems. And before you say it's bloated in combos: it isn't, because the game was built around combo swapping.
No
dmc4 dante still has more depth because one weapons do more and act more like a single unified moveset instead of DmC's which are mostly combo filler
If you're counting complexity by that, Swordsmaster adds 9 directionals and Nero's moveset adds 5 combos and 5 directions some of which change based on Exceed charge.
>dante still has more depth because one weapons do more and act more like a single unified moveset
No, not really. Eryx has the exact same gimmick as Gilgamesh save for just charges and having a couple more moves. Osiris is basically proto-Balrog, it's the weapon that requires you to focus the most on it alone. Aquila is a crowd control weapon that adds round trip and a second snatch. Arbiter is kinda shit but it becomes better with combo swapping. Rebellion is more or less the same in both games, whatever moves Rebellion doesn't have in DmC are given to other weapons. And I don't see how you could ever call Lucifer a "unified moveset", the thing is basically a glorified extra function.
>Swordsmaster adds 9 directionals
I did count Swordmaster moves. I forgot about Dark Slayer though, which has one combo, one air combo, and one directional.
fun game Ninja Theory has a niche and they're very good at what they do. no matter what fags say they're particularly good at characterization and particularly Vergil in this game had the strongest and most entertaining characterization out of any other character or variant in the franchise. sniper abortion is genuinely one of the most memorable moments in the entire medium.
You're missing gunslinger moves, the entire royal guard mechanic and trickster.
Reminder that Itsuno thinks DmC is a great Devil May Cry game and even incorporated parts of its combat into 5
Reminder that this game is still causing asspain over 7 years on
Game ok
Story Garbage
that's it
>gunslinger moves
True, although Gunslinger isn't particularly good in DMC4. DmC only has a couple extra moves, but its charge shots are actually totally different instead of being buffs. But lets not get that complicated, because it's not really important. The exact amount of moves doesn't matter, the point is that Donte is absolutely comparable in breadth to DMC4 Dante, and that it's simply not true that the game is infinitely less deep.
>the entire royal guard mechanic
True, though Donte has a pseudo-equivalent in demon dodge.
>trickster
Donte has a dedicated dodge, air dodges, an aid dash and teleports with angel dodge. He doesn't need trick since he has his own snatch that's even better than Nero's.
>Vergil in this game had the strongest and most entertaining characterization out of any other character or variant in the franchise
Virgin stayed the same boring static character throughout the entire game then pulled a 180 at the last second that foreshadowed once or twice. Actual Vergil had a character arc that lasted the entire series.
What's with sudden thread influx of praising DmC and shitting DMC5?
Story still sucks. Not enough people pointed out how it's shounen prophecy garbage.
Gameplay has issues. Enemies aren't particularly aggressive, and you get most of the DMC3 styles (Except the fun ones like Quicksilver/Royal/Doppelganger) in one along with DMC4 Nero grapple-chains so you're just too OP.
Level exploration isn't that fun.
Environmental art was fine, characters were too punk-chic.
Music was fine I guess.
Contrarians
Contrarianism or DmC is getting re released and shilled
>another dmc thread turned into shit
It's time.
Rank them from worst to tolerable:
>Kamiyafags (DMC 1)
>Ironic Contrarians (DMC 2)
>Nostalgiafaggots (DMC 3 and 3SE)
>Twitter Combotrannies (DMC 4 and 4SE)
>Dontefags (DmC and DmC:DE)
>nuDMCfags a.k.a. Redditors (DMC 5)
Decent rankings user. DMC5SE will be 10/10. I can feel it.
>Annoying faggot tier
CUHRAZYfags, Kamiyafags, Dontefags, Whinging Ninja Gaiden fags because their threads die in 50 replies.
>Okay tier
Hack n slashfags, DMC1/2 Fashionfags, Musicfags, Onimushafags.
>Pretty cool tier
Historyfags.
Absolute worst:
>Ranking fags aka scum
>DMC2
Absolutely the most chill, humble 99% of the time.
>DMC3
Chill most of the time.
>DMC1/DmC
Half and half, can be totally contrarian, can be okay when they're mostly circlejerking, 4/5 arguments purely based on pure subjectivity.
>DMC5/4
Two sides of the same annoying coin.
