Why was the 6th gen so

kino compared to the 7th and 8th generations? Was it the last good gen?

bump

Because you played them in your teens.

OG Xbox and Gamecube.... best combo anyone could ever own.

That has nothing to do with it
I had PS2, GC and DC. Wish I could have bought an Xbox and there's no good emulators

Higher costs of game development due higher performance expectations resulted in less risks taken and more samey/safe games released. Indie games hadn't really taken off yet to fill the void

it was literally the worst generation it was the best generation to have a PC not a console.
7th gen you needed a 360 to be relevent.
8th gen you needed a youtube acount
hopefully 9th gen is relevent again

Indie games are still stuck on le retro 4th gen graphics loop

talk about bad opinions

What the fuck is this post? Learn to fucking write

They had heart and soul.

every good 6th gen game came to pc super fast pc was booming in this time and actually doing new stuff that lead to 7th being so good. 6th literally had children teir games that didnt progress much past ps1 at all.

i mean part of this opinion is colored via ps2/this gen being so rereleased now

but at the time PC really was more ahead of consoles than it has ever beenin all of history.

it was arguably the last gen when most major players were willing to experiment with their games. also 3d finally matured and gave a reson to exist.
the following gen started promising but some atrocious trends took foot, like everything being a grey looking qte-ridden shooter, or retarded gimmicks like the wii not paying off save for some exceptions.
this current gen has been a trainwreck all around

The rush for having the best GRAPHIX wasn't as high back then. Devs where happy making games, doing shit they thought would be funny or cool. The market was less strict and not so restraint. Being bought up by a bigger publisher who might set rules on your team on what you can and cannot do in your game, might be it's downfall.

Having to focus so much on realism and graphics is cost heavy. Just get a nice looking artstyle and focus on the game instead.
Mr 'Bing Bing Wahoo' Nintendo jump off the graphics competition bandwagon years ago and they blossom in the cheaper family branch because of it.

Gay spoilers: Judge a gaming medium not by the hardware it was built with but by the content of it's library.

PC gaming was in it's worst legs back then
It fucking crashed and it took the entire 7th gen to bring itself back to life

What's that knock off PS1 on the left? Gay nerd exclusive?

no it wasnt the technology was insain you was prob just a poor person. if you had a good pc from 2000-2005 you was literally playing 8th gen games.

you realise there was games as good as cod4 on pc at this time battlefield. and like farcry and like all this other shit + huge amount of mods.

this era literally created the games you would play in 7/8th you just didnt have a pc.

No one wants to risk money so we just get the same shit
Also diminishing returns, it s harder and harder to get better graphic so every gen look the same

Are you fucking high?
>Age of Empires series
>Baldur's Gate series
>Icewind Dale series
>StarCraft
>Diablo II
>WarCraft III
>Arcanum
>Half-Life II

I could go on, and on, and on...

There's going to be a point where graphics won't be able to advance much further and everything will look the same, normies haven't gotten tired yet but they will and this shit will crash again

Nobody was playing those

Gamecube is too expensive

Real gaming peaked, everything since has been shareholder shit

This made me realize I want a DC-styled indie game so bad.

gamecube games were dirt cheap for over a decade if you waited until the last two years or so to start picking them up you only want them BECAUSE they're expensive/in demand now

go pick up stuff for original xbox and wii before the same thing happens to those libraries

I'm working on it

based retard

Xbox > Dreamcast > Gamecube > PS2

PS2 > dreamcast = gamecube > xbox

6th gen was the time where devs would experiment in between their latest AAA release. With every Star Wars game from Lucasarts, there was a Armed and Dangerous, With every Mortal Kombat, there was a Shaolin Monks (REMASTER NOW BOON!), with every Sonic, there was a Billy Hatcher and so on.

>this is what 6th gen babies beleive

5th gen was the experimental gen, 6th gen was the standardization gen.

>4th gen graphics

The style makes perfect sense for individuals who have a gameplay or story idea but don't have the time or money to put into AAA-style 3D graphics.

It was the SonicBox 64

>modern indie game
