>covers 1/6th of the original if we're being generous
I didn't think it was a bad game, but just thinking about how much they'll have to cut in the subsequent games is a bummer, because they are sure as shit not going to make 6 games out of this. 3 or maybe 4 if they're feeling super greedy. There's not a whole lot in the original game that felt like blatant filler, most of the places you visited served some purpose, so where are they going to cut? The only parts that I wouldn't substantially miss would be the hunt for all of the Huge Materia, that whole part of the original was a pacing misstep.
What gets the ax, Cosmo Canyon? Junon? Mt. Nibel? Temple of the Ancients? Rocket Town? Even if they stop adding retarded filler to pad out the game like the train graveyard getting a full chapter or the underground lab they won't even come close to covering the most important content in the original.
Dont compare this to the original. Its a nomura retelling. They've already changed the story significantly, so from here on out they can change things however they want.
Im more worried about when Nomura will finally get the ax. Hes a cancer on Square's back.

If we're being generous, I thought it was a bad game. If we're being real, I thought it was the worst game I had played in the past five years. I'm sure worse games came out, but I try to make a point NOT to play such terrible games. This one caught me by surprise.
It doesn’t help that the halfway point and next dramatic climax is around Aerith’s death and yet you’ve been almost everywhere in the original by then.
They announced this as a multipart series (most likely a trilogy) so they could keep all the locations and yet by ending on Midgar they wasted 1/3 of it on a single location. This was always a red flag and now they’ve introduced time jannies and defying fate they’re probably going to end up creating something closer to the “FFVII digest” Kitase was saying he split the project in the first place to avoid. It’s shit

So why does the party agree to challenge destiny exactly? They don't know the future yet, but if Sephiroth wants them to do something they should know it's a massive gamble at best or a major victory for him at worst. Not that any of them explain who Sephiroth even is or what his goals are, which was a misstep in its own right
Tyler Wright
OG FFVII's Midgar was incredibly linear, you just didn't notice all that much because the pre-rendered backgrounds allowed a certain degree of abstraction in traversing the world - it isn't all that weird that Sectors 5, 6, and 7 are all right next door to each other.
Unfortunately in a modern AAA game you need to make it REALISTIC and EPIC and they are obligated to sell the setting as a real place so you spend an excruciating amount of time walking down long ass hallways
Brandon Gonzalez
I'd say 8 with 0.5 being subtracted for padding, 0.5 being subtracted for dance sequences, and 1 being subtracted for the Nomuraization of the game, like:
FFVII Remake had some absolutely transcendent highs and some absolutely abysmal lows. I think the overall product is a success - I even like the Time Jannies - but the repeated sewer visits and the train graveyard almost made me give up on the game

All you need to make Tidus showing up in Part 2 make sense is to establish alternate dimensions within FF7, and that happened even in the original. Just think about the Supernova summon. That happened in an alternate dimension that showed our solar system. You easily could have Tidus show up in Part 2 and it wouldn't break any in universe rules.
Who knows. I think they just wanted the player and the party to switch their brains off and enjoy the nostalgia and epic advent children spectacle. Also I saw Zack and I CLAPPED!
Matthew Gonzalez
Yeah what were they even going for with the train graveyard, there was zero payoff except for maybe the one scene where it was hinted that Aerith was extremely lonely as a child. Tifa seeing Marlene there made no sense, it made me think that she had died or something and that Tifa was in denial or some shit
Robert Cox
shut up user Cloud could ALWAYS fly and slice through buildings and trains with ease
Kayden Davis
They had to do something different, if it was just a verbatim adaptation of the original's script in 2020 graphics people here would be sperging harder.
Jackson Hill
i think he meant his own personal score, which immediately negates his opinions going forward.
Ignore how they ironed everyone's characters into bland anime stereotypes, or all the self-referential fanservice. Ignore the boring rehashed gameplay. Its pretty! 9.5! Tifa's boobie touch clouds arm! Flashy particle effects! 9.5! I loved the Little Mermaid sequence in Kingdom Hearts!
Levi Perez
>0.5 being subtracted for dance sequences What? The dancing minigame was quick and easy. It does nothing for the game, positive or negative.
Kevin Wright
I kind of hope there's at least an opportunity for turn based combat in the next one, but I'm not holding my breath. You can barely even trust the AI to defend itself, let alone be a meaningful contributor in the combat unless you're actively controlling the character
Evan Allen
>Ignore how they ironed everyone's characters into bland anime stereotypes You are literally retarded. >or all the self-referential fanservice ? >Ignore the boring rehashed gameplay. Ok now this is nice bait. Fucking nigger.
Blake Flores
What the FUCK are you talking about? This is the most true the characters have been to themselves since the original game and is completely devoid of compilationshit in their characterizations
Carter Robinson
It just made me horribly uncomfortable since I played the game with my 64 year old father who I played the original with, wasn't that into the homoeroticism
Camden Thomas
Its some of the cringiest shit ive ever seen in a game in my life. Its a moment where anyone with self respect would mute the tv out of embarrassment. It was completely off-tone with the mood of the original, even WITH cloud dressed as a woman.
Brayden Collins
The only reason they wrote "we are no longer bound by fate" into the script is so they can get away with chopping huge chunks out of the plot from here on and streamlining to the finish.
Nobody on earth believes we're going to get every location on the world map of the course of the remake retelling. We'll get only the main sections and they'll try to get to the end with as little work as possible.
Easton Kelly
It's funny and gave flavor to the Honey Bee inn. That entire sequence was a blast, and I'm amazed they managed to do justice to crossdressing Cloud without pissing anyone off - I'm sure they knew the thin line they were walking with 2020 sensibilities.
I just wish the player was a bit more involved in putting the outfit together and Don Corneo only picks Cloud if you put together the most passing disguise like in the original.
Camden Thomas
SE loves mixing cringe with cool. The KH series has some of the slickest boss fights in history but it forces you to spend 75 percent of your time fucking around in Disney worlds and hearing dialogue with horrible diction
Nathan Wilson
The original Wall Market was full of homoeroticism it was just easier to miss/ignore because of the block people
Tyler Howard
Just cut out the fluff, honestly. All the dumb little side quests and shit are so pointless and boring
Daniel Lopez
It wasnt easy to miss. it was more raw and realistic. this time it was just anime as fuck and uwu uguu moe grunt bullshit
Xavier Lopez
You're not supposed to be letting the AI play the game for you. You're supposed to be actively controlling the entire party and switching between them when their ATB is full, just like any other RPG
Justin Scott
What were the side quests that even needed cut though? Pretty much everywhere you go you pick up a new character or experience some character development that's unique to that location. I agree that the Huge Materia saga could be cut, but there's not much that feels superfluous.
Aiden Rivera
Screw Tidus, you’re thinking too small user. Square should use this opportunity to make a deal with Capcom, ditch the gay ATB shit and turn FFVII Part 2 into full a cuhrayzee game “featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series”. It wouldn’t break any rules in the universe and be the perfect continuation of the Midgar story as Sakaguchi intended
and I did, but you can't tell me that you didn't notice your AI teammates just standing dicking around at least sometimes while you were waiting for their ATB to recharge. There are no parameters that you can set to make them remotely autonomous
Carter Ramirez
Personally I got more or less what I wanted from the remake. A better realized Midgar which was easily the coolest location in the game that was seriously under used. Only thing that genuinely sucked was, unsurprisingly, the totally unasked for Nomura's penis-shaped, Organization XIII looking time jannies.
