"that's a lot of bullets" is what I'm thinking
They're video games.
You guys ever been to a shmup thread on /vr/? You've not experienced schizophrenia until you've been there
thoughts and prayers
I only talk about shumps on forums. The genre is super niche and too hard for normies past baby infinite credits mode.
hey
play プロギアの嵐
Do I need to learn the crazy scoring stuff? I really just want to 1cc an insane looking game and impress my faggot friends who say I'm shit.
>You've not experienced schizophrenia until you've been there
you haven't seen bullet-hell schizo until you see trans-schizo
If you want to 1cc a game, it's a good to learn -just- enough of the scoring to get the max amount of extra lives to give yourself the best chance. The games by Cave that I've 1cc'd, for example I don't have amazing scores but I did trigger all the 1ups to get through the game.
If you want a crazy looking game to impress your queer party friends, try looking into Giga Wing. The scoring doesn't give you any extra lives, but it looks cool (pic) and it's built around reflecting bullets, which is what you'll be doing anyway to survive. The difficulty is on the lower side as well (relatively speaking).
Some people like them, I hate them if I have to use wasd to dodge, either controller/mouse or fuck off.
Holy shit what number is that?
I've always had an interest (in shmups in general) but I haven't gotten good enough to 1cc anything. Kinda worried my skills in one game wont transfer much to another, is that true?
ho ho ho
Giga Wing... "Go for the Giga Score!"
The first game goes into the trillions, while the second game goes into the quintillion digits, almost meaninglessly huge numbers at that point. one such example from the sequel i pulled off the net
Definitely not, although each game has its quirks but the more you play the more you'll get accustomed to shmups
Imagine having to route that holy fuck
They're fun but I'm way too much of a retard to play Ketsui. I'll stick to Espgaluda, thanks.
I like touhou and daifukkatsu
Getting good at shooters generally helps, as you learn some common tricks (like leading enemy shots away from you, screen management, etc.).
Since a lot of bullet hells are clones of each other (in style or pacing) a lot of skills transfer (outside of scoring), however, shmups molded off of "classic" style demand different strategies. The gulf isn't insurmountable. Unless you are a turbo autist who can only function in one game, you can learn to get good enough at both types of shooter with practice.
I wouldn't worry about not being able to 1cc anything. That comes with practice, and finding a game you really like. My early clears came out of progressively upping the ante: 9cc (as a noob), 5cc, 3cc, etc..
I'll keep at it then, thanks fellas.
I've never been a fan of Giga Wing, but I adore Mars Matrix.
It's weird, they aren't massively dissimilar games, but GW never really clicked for me.
sure thing. Is there a game you like to play or practice?
Ruined the Shmup genre.
MM is an awesome game, but I usually rec' Giga Wing because it is easier, and easier to understand (your shield only does one thing, vs the 4 or 5 different things your shot/shield can do with one button in MM).
I am not good enough to excel at Mars Matrix so I gravitate towards the Giga Wing games...
If you missed it, the shmuplations site just put out a Giga Wing dev interview:

How do I overcome my problems with chaining in Ikaruga? I haven't got further than level 3 because I quit if I drop chain or die, but I know that I require knowledge of the levels and that playing more of the game will help me improve.
I'm considering just going onto another game and then coming back at a later date. Dangun Feveron is pretty good, Ketsui I need to learn.
Theyre great, what should I get if my favorite was Deathsmiles? (I haven't played a bullet hell in years)
> early 2000s, like '03 or '04
> Play this shmup game at the local arcade, forget what it's called but it's a typical fighter plane one
> Get pretty decent over time
> Daycare that I go to has a day trip to the arcade
> Excited to play my favorite arcade game
> I am on FIRE that day, BTFO'ing every stage
> People start to notice and gather around to watch
> Crowd of like 30 kids watch me clear the final stage and set the high score
Was the only time I was a cool kid, shmups have always had a special place in my heart since then. Thanks for reading my blog.
I really don't like the screen orientation
skill transfer is huge between sequels of games, or games with similar play style.
bullet hell difficulty comes from the optical illusion of bullet spam, it's a good trick to attract an audience and impress non-players. problem is they make for VERY boring games to play once you get good at them, like i did
I really like Mushihimesama and Futari. Something about bugs I guess, and I like how the original modes in both are more like Raizing shmups.
The depth is in the scoring systems.
Lately I've just been trying a lot to try to settle on one I really like and think I could stick with.
I'm not high enough IQ for guwange
One of these days...
those are lasers not bullets, also it caan't be hell if you're in the sky
>The depth is in the scoring systems.
I find their scoring very disjointed from survival and shooting, so they end up playing like puzzle games, gem clean up games, or combo chaining games, instead of flying shooters. Look at guwange, you're walking slowly and cleaning up bullets with your shikigami mop, like some sort of janitor. GIVE ME A BREAK!
This might upset some fans with bad taste, but it's the truth.
that's a cool story. Always wish I could impress people with shmup skills but that opportunity is few and far between.
If you like shooters with witches, I'd recommend:
-Gunbird
-Trouble Witches
-Gundemonium Recollection
Mind you, the latter two of these are indie games so they won't look as nice as Deathsmiles. Gunbird's sprites, from the 90s, still hold up however.
If you are more looking for dark, horror atmosphere, I think more along the lines of
-Caladrius (great game)
-Castle of Shikigami (also great, Steam graphics kinda muddy tho)
They're being featured in this year's SGDQ apparently so expect a lot of autism
huh? I'm not the best at shmups, but I find Guwange to be very fun and intuitive. The good thing is all 3 characters play differently enough that you can find something more tweaked for your play style. I use the kid with the glasses.
My shmup friend told me to play Tatsujin Ou, but I'm getting filtered at stage 5... very hard for my skill level.
Can someone recommend another frantic shooter? He called this type of game a frantic shooter. But he disappeared from my skype so I can't talk to him anymore.
