it's pretty cringe desu

The combat in KH2 is actually really great. But the story is beyond horrible. Skip all the cutscenes, and you will be alright

Yes to both

I tried the first game when the third one came out and honestly I thought it was okay until an hour in when goofy and donald duck came on. I just lost all ability to take it seriously and after a while nothing seemed to be ramping up. I think people like it for reasons outside of nostalgia but I didn't get it.

its peak autism in terms of writing.
the combat is very satisfying, but kh1 is very slow to start getting good.
I would recommend trying kh1 and going to the colosseum after traverse town. after your first visit you can decide to play it further.

The first two mainline games are legitimately fun but the handheld games ruined the series. If they were just mediocre it might not have been so offensive, but they introduced so much terrible lore that there is just not enough adjectives in any language to accurately describe how utterly turgid and awful the writing is and it bogged down the series.

It was fun when I was like 10. Now you can get the gameplay experience from better games like Nier. Music was pretty good from what I remember

It is chuuni cringe kino.

Is it even possible to get into it now with all the games out already that build on top of eachother. Genuine question, haven't played these.
Also pretty sure Disney is American so not weeb by definition

i can't imagine being able to finish 3 if it weren't for the fact that i've been literally waiting for it my whole life. it's so fucking cringe honestly but i'll never stop playing them.

Kingdom Hearts is cringe kino in its purist form with some normal kino rarely showing up

1 CoM and 2 are legitimately good and the ending of 2 is a perfectly fine end of a trilogy. everything else is skippable. just play the original GBA version of CoM and not the shitty remake

ehh

the payoff for being a fan for years was final form in KH2, nothing can top the feeling i got after unlocking it and flying around with those dual auto attacking key blades and over the top combo chains, but it only felt that good because the years of terrible camera angles and weak combo chains

kh3 ultima form tries to recapture thr magic but it cant top kh2 final form when it was already the best

the story is dumb and pointless, kh3 proved that

as a person who platinumed almost all the games in the series, i would say youre in for a disappointing time that not even final form will redeem

chain of memories can be rushed through on the gba version. bbs can be rushed as only the ending really matters. 358/2 days is cancer and nomura knew it, so its just a movie now. Coded literally doesnt matter. DDD is kind of weird.
dont even bother playing the mobile game, just watch the story cutscenes.
Its possible, 2fm and 3 remind kind of make up for it, but the amount of convoluted shitty side stories make it a chore

Gameplay's solid in the first game, quite good in the second, the rest don't matter, and the story is so cringe that it flips back to being based.

It was worth it until the mobile games and kh3 came out, it deserves to be forgotten now

no

I wish I'd played KH (Original) back when it was relevant rather than the first step in a autistic shitfest. I mean I played Chain of Memories which had most of the worlds and recounts the plot of the first anyway but I pretty much fucked myself.

You either played it as a child and have nostalgia for the series or you didn't. It's impossible to get into if you missed the indoctrination window as none of the games are exceptional from a gameplay standpoint--not even the often lauded KH2. There are much better character action games than KH2. For the time when it came out it was a great game, but time marches on and other franchises executed the core gameplay formula better.

The series is peak autism but in a good way. Seeing nomura's fuckery play out is actually pretty entertaining. If youre a person who cant handle a really out there concept and just finds it off putting it doesnt let up. KH1 is the most simple in telling its story. Soon you'll be getting to time travel and ancient wars and digital worlds. In terms of gameplay, the mainline games are very fast and snappy. It can only be fully appreciated when playing on the hardest difficulties or fighting post game bosses. The handhelds have much shittier combat but can still be enjoyed in its own way. The mobile shit will be a huge barrier for entry though as its going to be incredibly important to the upcoming games and most people recommend just watching cutscene compilations. It takes a lot of getting used to but if you can suspend your disbelief enough you'll find a genuinely good series.

1 2 and 3 are very fun games
The rest sucks fucking dick, COM is okay i guess

>kh2 is a character action game
supreme take

The storytelling is great. How everything connects and the mystery behind the characters are top notch. Nomura is a genius at making shit up that sounds plausible and creating the greatest sense of hype and friendship.

they are amazing hck n slash rpg hybrids with some disney fanservice if you like those movies.
Don't care about the plot, Nomura himself stated he just writes it as he goes along and intentionally creates mysteries to solve in the next game.
It's a plot with no intention of wrapping up

If you like action jrpg, sure.
But for the plot....

cringekino until you hit this motherfucker and discover that you haven't actually played a truly perfectly designed hard boss in forever
Sadly, thats exactly where the series peaks and the rest is just pallatable and serviceable, but nothing amazing
Btw, Re:coded on the DS is actually pretty amazing gameplay and mechanics wise

With the mod scene growing around the series now, its prime time to get in/come back
>KH1 Critical Mix
>KH2FM Garden of Assemblage Randomizer
>Multiple enemy randomizer cheat tables for KH2FM
>Vanitas playthrough mod
>Upcoming Aqua mod
>Upcoming Ventus mod

Sure. Speaking purely on gameplay, the "main" games have some of the best in the genre, while the "side" games range from pretty rough to pretty great. The story is a rollercoaster in every sense of the word, but if you get on board with it it offers a compelling ride partly due to some pretty well timed heartfelt moments, sincere writing and setting of the stakes all throughout the series, which while it may vary in quality is generally present enough in every entry to keep your attention if you were sold on it before. Which does make it a pretty good thing the best in that regard is the first game but I digress, another factor people enjoy is the sheer lengths the story has travelled which always keeps people guessing. But as said, the gameplay is strong enough that even if you don't care about that you don't necessarily have to. The music is 10/10 every time without fail though. Here's the music to one of the absolute worst bosses ever made.

I just started the kh3 data org and that’s been pretty good so far

But Noct i mean Yozora is the best boss in the franchise

>kh3 data org
That would make sense, I haven't touched ReMind yet because of third world prices

>Here's the music to one of the absolute worst bosses ever made.
I was thinking really hard, trying to argue that, remembered about Flame Hyenard, but at least you can mute your fucking TV.
I cannot think of a boss so singularly disconnected from an entire's game design that was so clearly never tested for more than one minute and sent to ship. Actually trying to use the game's mechanics actively gets you killed until you find out the min/max cheese from a forum thread.

If you like action RPGs and don't mind cheesy dialogue, then yeah I'd say its worth it. You can get the package with all of the games for like $30 now.
The 3 main games + Re:CoM are the best in the series while the other ones are kinda mediocre though desu. Don't listen to the people that tell you KH3 and Chain of Memories are bad.

Honestly that music was all that kept me going in that fight. Beating him as Terra twice was awful and I hate myself for it

Chain of Memories is STILL the only game in the series where Sora feels like an actual character instead of a caricature. The Disney retells are super unwelcome, but I had fun with the gameplay of Re:CoM even after reading through multiple people's complaints and replaying it a couple years ago

Your first mistake was taking it seriously instead of treating it as the shonen it is. The series is pretty much a love-letter to tweens who are straddling the border of "kiddy" Disney properties while finding brooding Final Fantasy protagonists cool.

Kh3 on anything other than critical with attractions and team attacks turned off is too easy

>I just lost all ability to take it seriously
Who told you to take it seriously?

Re:CoM is definitely the best non numbered game. I've had more fun replaying it recently than I did with BBS.

Even before critical mode was added, I still thought 3 was a fun, although flawed game. I'd definitely recommend people who are playing it for the first time now to play on critical and pick up the DLC now that its going on sale. The data fights and secret boss are very good challenges.
