Too bad it's also a shit game
Because everyone was watching Vinny play it
I still haven't finished the first Hylics
Also I'm not in a massive rush to pick it up, I'm in the middle of other shit.
Not like I'd make a Hylics thread anyway, the odds of enough people on Zig Forums having actaully played these games and not just hearing about them in a youtube video are pretty god damned slim, and no one wants to talk to zoomers about a youtube video they watched.
neck yourself retard
most big art pieces dont have hype surrounding their release
I appreciate the effort, but it's not a game I want to play.
>complains about repetitive memes
>posts wojakshit
Is there a point in """playing""" this piece of shit?
People don't like real art because real art involves thinking. They want basic shit that gives the illusion of being art so they can feel smart.
Its why psueds always bring up liking things that are universally agreed to be "smart" things, its more about showing other people that you like "ART" or "SMART THING" so you can present yourself a certain way, than it is about actually liking those things.
I dig it, the art direction is really unique and cool and the game does do some interesting stuff.
Honestly, just give it a fair shot. If you don't like it thats totally understandable, its a fucking weird game and its not like its really doing anything terribly new outside of the aesthetic choices.
It's fun and visually interesting. The combat doesn't revolve around grinding and instead forces you to strategize with status effects and items.
Video games as art doesn’t just mean a good story, or good graphics or sounds. Video games as art as a medium means being able to convey a story or emotion or anything really that is unable to be conveyed through any other medium. The most distinct thing about video games is the ability to interact with it, and video games as art must use this in a way that other mediums cannot replicate, not just have a good story or good graphics. That’s why people like Kojima are considered auteurs, because they use the gameplay as a tool, and why guys like Drukmann is just an amateur filmmaker.
All games already contain art. "Art games" generally just feel like they're trying too hard, and they usually have bad gameplay because they're more focused on graphics. Not too different from people who only care about how realistic something looks.
>"Art games" generally just feel like they're trying too hard
Its because they're trying to make videogames be "art" in the same way that other mediums are, instead of making artistic videogames
Its pretty much this, its why the last of us and bioshock infinite get praised as the first true pieces of video game art, despite stuff like killer7 and terranigma coming out years and decades prior arent considered art. Theres a real barrier to entry in regards to actual art that you have to interpret instead of art that tells you how to feel.
Weird visuals is not what makes game art.
So tired of stupid people saying this.
Hylics is style over substance. That style is truly amazing to watch making it worth getting, but the substance can feel like a real slog. Without something more to latch onto i can see why it struggles to get a foothold like other indie titles
video games aren't art the same way marvel movies aren't art
And how is that?
>mfw The Irishman
this ain't it, Martin
>too stupid to do research and see that game is much more than just weird visuals
Pot calling kettle black, air of smugness is just a cherry on your retarded top
I bought Hylics, played for like an hour and got bored. I'm sure the game is fine, and I am on board for surrealist aesthetics, but I can't enjoy games for the surrealism alone like I could when I was younger. I need engaging gameplay or else I just get bored immediately. Weirdness by itself doesn't impress me anymore, it just feels kind of contrived, like I know whoever set out to create it just wanted to be weird and doesn't have any kind of real point they are trying to make, or even if they do, it just gets lost in the nonsense.
art is a descriptive term; its neutral just like the old meme: "This Post is Art"
Saying its art is not helpful at all; just say its good, bad or a bit of both
Why do so many people want games to be art?
Do you hope that people won't look at you funny when you mention you like to play games if they're considered art?
Ive never understood people saying that videogames aren't an art form? Its no different from any other piece of media, is it just cause in the 80 they were marketed as toys rather than a new piece of media? Thats all I can figure. Its like saying that an Adam Sandler flick isnt a piece of art just cause its not funny, when in truth that just means that it's bad art.
what?
A novel about painting is not necessarily a good novel.
/Thread, but man does hylics 1 and 2 look nice.
"Art games" are for retards. They're always either a shit excuse for using a novel art style or a shitty walking simulator where you go around some non-threatening location and collect the fucking slender notes to piece together the thrilling backstory of the cumrag you play as that always amounts to some garbage like "WAA DADDI TUCH ME ;((((((("
Is it really any surprise that no one plays this shit when there are tons of games made with more passion and vision that are also enjoyable experiences as games?
>real art involves thinking
It's literally the opposite. Art involves emotion. Intelligent people will find art shit.
God this board's Vinny obsession is so fucking lame. What a trash community.
Terrible analogy, you mean a novel with a painted cover isn't necessary a good novel.
Hylics 2 is a pretty good game though.
Viewing vidya as """art""" is peak reddit.
And you need the emotional maturity to process those feelings and think about how they impact you.
You're forgetting that thinking is WIS and recalling is INT
Disagree, all video games are art. Just cause you dont like the people that call them "art" doesnt make it any less true.
At least he's better than Germa
Looks unique but I feel frustrated with how visually cluttered this seems.
