Do you enjoy exploring for the sake of exploration?

So many times I've heard people complain about the worlds of BOTW, Death Stranding or Red Dead 2 with
>there's nothing to do
Isn't the actual act of exploring the world, seeing the sights and taking on the environment a fun thing to do for you?
Would you prefer 1000 identikit bases to clear? Or a crap sword at the top of the mountain? Why is climbing the mountain itself not the gameplay and the view from the top the reward? Especially with the aforementioned games you have to actually plan your climb because of weather/terrain. Don't you see how cool that is?

I do and I love the worlds of all the games you listed

exploring can be fun, but it needs interesting sights and interesting characters

If I wanted to explore to "take in the sight" I'd go outside

>BOTW, Death Stranding or Red Dead 2
None of those worlds are particularly interesting or unique though.

>Do you enjoy exploring for the sake of exploration?
Absolutely.

>there's nothing to do
those people clearly never played BotW.

>Isn't the actual act of exploring the world, seeing the sights and taking on the environment a fun thing to do for you?
See, this is why I don’t like open world games with pointless traversal, especially BotW. I want to play a fucking video game not hold the forward button for an hour and “take in the scenery”

>Do you enjoy exploring for the sake of exploration?

Absolutely not. I need some narrative reason to be at a location in a game, and it needs to have interesting content.

I'm not going to explore a video game just to explore. Most of them are fucking empty filled with bullshit. OH WOW A 3D MOUNTAIN SO AMAZING. Yeah fucking right, I'll just go outside.

Same here user, most of these games you spend the majority of the time walking and the scenery isn't that fucking interesting.

Game of the decade, can't wait for the sequel to completely break this place

Depends on the game and locations within it.

Breath of the wild and rdr2 I don’t mind. I even try not to use fast travel in certain games. But then you get games like death stranding with shit locations.

I need an interesting world to explore + cool stuff that actually matters to me or builds the world in a significant way. BotW does not accomplish any of this, so its exploration gets dull within the first 10 hours.

I'm afraid that I am a clown who plays Elite: Dangerous, so yes, I do in fact enjoy exploring for the sake of exploration.

But you can't really see a lot of the shit you do in these games in one trip. I've done my fair share of traveling round the world and real life exploration can't be beat. But I love sitting in comfy house exploring in vidya too.

Only if I'm invested in the world. BotW felt gamey so I didn't care about exploring

>Do you enjoy exploring for the sake of exploration?
Yes, it's why I love BotW so much.
Doing it just for epic trinkets to boost your stats is the sign of an un-evolved peasant mind

nooo not the heckin video gamey video gamerino!

Yes, I loved botw and uncharted

Idk it feels like games either have a bunch of copy paste quests packed in there like Asscreed odyssey or it’s totally empty. I think open world games have gotten better, and I think the examples you chose were apt but for a long long time most open world games were trash

>Isn't the actual act of exploring the world, seeing the sights and taking on the environment a fun thing to do for you?
nah OP
I play games to have a sense of accomplishment as I unlock things

OK, how about this: If I wanted to "take in the sight" I'd do it with Google Maps
>Free
>Low spec requirements
>Very short load times
>World bigger than any other video games
>Extremely realistic graphics
>Best fast travel ever made, can literally go anywhere
>Can't die so I can actually explore freely

>nooooooo not the heckin breath of the wilderino not the friggen bildy wildy

botw fucking sucks

i don't like botw

>Do you enjoy exploring for the sake of exploration?
Nope. Only game I've played that's gotten me to say otherwise is Yume Nikki.

I do
When games give you a moment to your self or an indefinite break between missions it just so calming because Time stands still until you will it to continue.
I love Shadow of the Colossus and the ps2 gtas and Psychonauts and just going around wherever.
Hell even Fable even though it's by far the most linear of the bunch it does leave the reins very loose and let's you muck about at your own pace.

If you'd ever actualy got out and seen the world you'd know that there's more to it than the sight itself. There's the light of certain times of day, the weather, the general atmosphere. Something that games can do quite well. Google maps cannot.

Good neither do I

BotW is the greatest game of all time BUT it would be cool if you could have a couple of mini-games by the fire for example

>BotW is the greatest game of all time
why are so many people autistic

downloaded DF Unity 2 months back with tedious travel and I did quite enjoy my trek toward the Wrothgarian mountains.
having the snow melt with the change of the seasons, the pixel art skyline change from wooded hills to Carpathian mountains.
being alerted at the crack of dawn by an alert only for it turning out to be a Nymph who decided to be friendly

just screaming "lol autism!" without any arguments is the text book definition of butt-hurt autism.

>no u

I have a couple of questions because having played BotW myself I genuinely don’t get the massive hype behind this game. This isn’t a shitpost or a trap or anything I’m just curious. First of all, how long have you been playing video games for? Second, what was your favourite game before BotW? Third, what is it about BotW that makes it the greatest game of all time? Thanks in advance.

>This isn’t a shitpost or a trap or anything I’m just curious. First of all, how long have you been playing video games for?
kek

So you've missed all the posts about BotW in the last 3 years or what? And Brood War

BoTW is not exploring for the sake of exploring, though. At least not moreso than progressing to the next level in a linear game is progressing for the sake of progressing. Contrary to many opinions on here, it has plenty of stuff to do, mainly quests (shrine quests), it's just that some aspects of the game are not fleshed out ...
Like the resource collection and crafting aspect. There are about 7 effects, but all of them can be found early in the game and there's not much need to find more after that, because you can just keep farming them in a few places, so there's no big reward to finding different ingredients in remote places. Everything other than cooking ingredients is practically useless, elemental ores especially, considering their rarity. Sure, you'll get your ancient armour at the end after collecting your millionth antique part, you'll get acces to 3 shrines if you collect dragon parts, there are a few NPC fetchquests, you can buy a few cool outfits at the monster shop, and you can upgrade your armour's defense, but that's just not enough to make you feel like the stuff you collect is worth the effort, especially when half of it is elemental ores.
There's just not much that will change your experience on how you play the game, and in that regard, the game really doesn't live up to its hype. Sure, it gives you choices, but those choices ultimately mean little.
