Why did Toadette and Daisy get to escape spinoff purgatory? I mean, at least Daisy started in a mainline Mario, but Toadette has the exact same origin as Waluigi, created solely to be a counterpart to an established character.

Toadette, Daisy, and Yoshi. This brings the roster up to 8 characters to support the game's newly added 8 player mode since the Switch supports up to 8 controllers at a time. It also coincidentally evens out the gender ratio and adds only characters also playable in Super Mario Run.
