What is the best Dragon Quest game?

IV or V, I can't decide

same, I thought it would be alot more fun but it ended up feeling tacked on.

5 and 8 for me.
How's 11 by the way? Would you recommend?

Dragon Warrior VII's the first and only one I finished.

11 is overall my fav. Mainly thanks to the voice acting and cast. Can’t wait for 12, and to finish the rest of the main line games

V is the best JRPG of all time.

For me it is V, the story got me engaged the most and the gameplay was pretty good. I think the family theme really sold the game to me.

My issue is that the monster mechanic is just not as good once you get to the final act of the game since you get a lot of human chars, and not using them means you end up missing quite a lot of interactions with the party chat. If you want to use all the humans you end up with only two slots for monsters, and if you want to use the sabrecat thats only one monster slot you can choose.

Yes if dialogue, exploration and story are what you really care about.
The game has no resource management like in those games you played, there are camps and savepoints everywhere, MP management isn't a thing.
Normal is too easy, play with the harder monsters modifier on.

Builders had no business being so kino. It is amazing how it still feels like a DQ game.

I'm straight grinding through them right now. Only on 3, but absolutely fuck 2 and everyone involved in it.

The monsters are good for experimentation in a second playthrough but yeah i always used humans when i could for the party chat.

Oh, and this is before considering every dungeon after the first or second one is a goddamn trap-filled nightmare with staircases that lead nowhere or floors that force you to run through areas multiple times.

Switch port. I'm too lazy to emulate. I don't mind it being ugly as hell, and to give it credit, I like the redone music and the ability to quick save.

Once you've played a couple dragon quests you've played them all. I play them to relax and enjoy a pleasant story

I only played a bit of VI but hearing some of the tunes in XI really makes me want to go back and give it another shot considering how much I loved IV and V.

What do you want from DQXII?

3, 4, and 5 are my favorites.
But I also enjoy 8, 9, and 11.
1 is archaic as fuck, and 2 is just the first game but longer and harder.
6 and 7 are good, but I like the others just a little more.
I'd go
5 > 3 > 4 > 9 > 11> 8 > 6 > 7 > 1 > 2
3 is the most replayable.
5 has the best story.
4 has the best characters.
I'd recommend all the DS remakes(Deborah ftw), all the SNES and GBC remakes, and the 3DS one's are a nice alternative, but not necessarily the best, you gain some things, loose others.
9 looks like shit, but has the best post game and the party making of 3, making it pretty replayable.
But overall, DQ5 on Ds is best.

Party creator like 3 and 9, but with personality and voice presets so they actually feel like characters.
