I had a choice in Christmas 2004 : to get either this, or Metroid Prime 2.
I got MP2 because I'd had Metroid Prime 1. I hadn't actually enjoyed MP1 but I knew what I was getting and Paper Mario I knew of but didn't know if I would enjoy it.
In the event, I didn't enjoy MP2 and regret my choice to this day.
Another factor in my decision was reviews and hype ; Metroid Prime (1 and 2) were hyped to absolute heaven so I thought "Well, this MUST get better at some point".... but they did not
