A while back, some fans of Earthbound and Mother 3 wanted to make an unofficial sequel called Mother 4. Nintendo shut down this fan project for copyright infringement and the fangame seemed dead. However, the team released this trailer in January 2020 and rebranded the game as Oddity.

As far as anyone knows, no legal action actually came down from Nintendo, though the decision to change was likely most motivated by the threat of their involvement. Plus, it got people to shut the fuck up about the name, which was 90% of the discourse.
I do hope these guys end up finishing their project. I think what they've shown looks good, at this point it just comes down to how decent the writing ends up and whether or not they actually finish.
