what's next? the game is intentionally shit/supposed to give a phantom pain meme?
user it's a good game, a masterpiece dare I say, it just requires a bit more introspection from your part to see it for what it is and appreciate it more.

If you ain't a complete twat you would understand from the first hour that this Boss isn't Big Boss. No excuse.

No it’s gay
At least mgs2 introduced me to someone else completely new I’ll be playing at the beginning instead of dropping this last minute
So that wasn’t much upsetting as you get use to the character through the journey and resonate with the character despite wanting to play as snake
In here on the other hand , all my hours spent I thought I was big boss
But now turns out I’m nothing but a gay as fuck delusional faggot who thinks I’m big boss because I got brain damage during some helicopter crash and it also now makes sense why the character barely even spoke throughout the game
Which begs the question what was the point of even hiring Kiefer Sutherland if he wasn’t even utilised fully as big boss who usually talks a lot

>have to make a new account just to start a new game
what the FUCK were they thinking?

>all my hours spent I thought I was big boss
that's the point brainlet
that's why he's your avatar, with your name and birthday.
if you think he's actually a person then you are dead wrong
>INB4 BUT HE HAS A FACE IN GZ
that's a placeholder, and to no one's surprise he uses Snake's face, and Snake's voice.
He's a ghost, a phantom, with literally no backstory other than he is a doctor (could be to showcase how someone who is pro-life like the player could easily become a killer like Big Boss)

Also even Big Boss doesn't talk very much in Ground Zeroes, see the fiddle scene for example.
They only hired Keifer because he's an actor (helps legitimize the medium and the game), who can do facial expressions, also his voice fits the age of both Big Bosses
The legend of Big Boss is made of you and the "real" one, in a way the game's message is that anyone can be a legend.
the game never ends, and the Truth mission isn't an ending (nor M51 which is just a MGS1 fanservice scene)
the game even lets you resume doing repeated ops or side ops or FOBs as if nothing happened, because the revelation isn't supposed to be a bad thing, you just got filtered user.
that's why.
they should've let you rewatch old cutscenes though.
but you don't need to start a new game.

>you can't start a fresh game because nonsense
it's just bad programming to force people to play their shitty online modes

>probably MGS1 Solid Snake: They played us like a damn fiddle???

imagine complaining that your playable character is just actions and not words in a game with a theme song that says "words that kill"
or vocal cord parasites that take away a people's words.
The irony.

t. professional hacker programmer
it's just a game design choice that is supposed to tie in with how the story never ends, that's why it doesn't show your avatar dying in MG1, like how some fags want the game to "end".
Instead the game foreshadows Big Boss (and your character)'s descent into hell/Outer Heaven by showing him in his Demon Snake form

If you played Pokemon (heck even fighting vidyas), then you'd understand why a game doesn't really need to end to be a meaningful experience which PW/GZ/TPP all strive to be with their Tactical Espionage Operations.

one of the best games (if you play on pc with mods) of the last decade.
go back to your movie games you uncultured faggot

the thing is what does venom snake adds to the lore? was the real big boss making outer heaven kn south Africa when another big boss was in some platform and yet another big boss went back to USA to be the boss of foxhound? how exactly does that work?

he's supposed to be your avatar see even though MGS4 ended without him it's the ultimate acknowledgement of the player's role in a 27 year franchise, it's not for story reasons at all.
It also serves to immerse you further, by inspiring you play the game the way you want it to be, any way you want it to be, full lethal, water pistol, total stealth, you name it.

venom is a decoy to misslead certain factions the wrong way so big boss can work in peace.
just read up on the lore, its pretty good.

can work on peace doing what? is bb going to foxhound even canon anymore? that never made sense with his war against zero

In this exact second Solid Snake was coming to fuck his pretty ass, and some years later he'd fry the real Big Boss' ass.

Yeah that's the story justification for it, but like I said in ten million replies in this board, ultimately Venom's just your self insert, what you expect Big Boss to act like, plus your ability to control him in game.
I love how they reference shooting the Boss with the Patriot sequence twice in this game, which doubly serve as the only time you can make any story related choice
you could kill Quiet (and lose out the chance to have her join you until you replay the sequence)
or shoot the shit out of Skull Face and see your avatar/Venom smiling out of revenge like you would be if you wanted to shoot him.
I've heard complaints about how they don't let you kill Huey, but that would've resulted in a clunky Time Paradox
it is canon, he just makes Outer Heaven and at some point joins FOXHOUND for whatever reason (definitely to support Outer Heaven in some fashion), because honestly the games weren't written 27 years in advance.
actually not really, the Outer Heaven logo is from the 80s, the one they use in the MSX games and later on in the ending timeline is different.
Myth busted.

That's just because Kojima is a hack, Venom Snake was never supposed to be a thing, Solid fucked Big Boss ass TWO TIMES, back to back baby, that's why in MG2 Big Boss was part cyborg - this shitty retcon ruined everything - even fucking psycho-mantis: remember how talking to snake he says that he's the only one that ever spoke to him as a person? Well turns out liquid was his buddy when they were kids.

Didnt the red flags come up for you when you start playing the game and before the bandages come off you make a character? Surely you didnt think it was just for multiplayer when you had already started singleplayer.

>that's why in MG2 Big Boss was part cyborg
The character who mentions that in-game also says that it was just a rumor. I think it was just an in-joke poking fun at the non-canon NES sequel that actually had a Cyborg Big Boss.

Venom Snake is just as much as a hero as Big Boss ever was.

>That's just because Kojima is a hack, Venom Snake was never supposed to be a thing
Kojima can't win them all, I'd take this retcon over MGSV's Ahab being the real Big Boss and Ishmael being Huey, because it makes more sense in a game that gives you freedom to play the game however you want, and have that character be entirely yours.
That doesn't make him a hack
Even then both Big Bosses are completely equal, just two bodies of the same person in completely different places.
so metaphorically speaking Solid beat him twice.
when you think about it, this retcon even reinforces its message about how legends can easily be distorted

Yes indeed, your avatar and the real one are one and the same.

>All this time spent thinking you play as the big boss when you don’t even play as him actually
I thought it was pretty obvious when the game brings up an avatar creation tool for no particular reason at the very beginning of the story.

I mean, it's so detailed that the game manual itself mentions that after the wounds received after the first fight with Solid Snake he had to be reconstructed by Dr Madnar (which is a reference to Snatcher) - it's pretty canon, I mean maybe it's not canon anymore since Kojimbo fucked it, but it was. Even in 4 Madnar is referenced again in the files.

>I mean, it's so detailed that the game manual itself mentions that after the wounds received after the first fight with Solid Snake he had to be reconstructed by Dr Madnar (which is a reference to Snatcher)
It was never mentioned in the game's manual, only in an optional CODEC calls.

well, even if the story is conflicting with alot of other stuff, if you play on pc with mods to remove timers its a great game.
just reinstalled it, deleted my old save file and began a new game.
hope we will see a copy from it in form of mgs6 with the same stuff, just with more areas and other content to expand on

>multiples plotwists in a kojima game

oooooooohhhhhhhhhh

>mgs6
I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you.

>even if the story is conflicting with alot of other stuff
extremely minor details from a game from before the series was popular and wasn't even available in English for 15 years and even then was in the bonus disc of a re-release of a game, the other one was only available in Europe in English and even then took 3 more years on top of the 15 years to be in the same re-release's bonus disc.
it's that minor, following the extreme minutiae of canon isn't more fun that making a necessary few retcons of extremely small details, in service of a much bigger, fun, and interesting idea, is actually a good trade-off.

I shouldn't have made a fuss out of this, but yeah I completely agree, though I kinda could see the appeal of timers, makes something all the more desirable and forces you to work without it and with tools you already have.

>MGSV's Ahab being the real Big Boss and Ishmael being Huey
Was expecting to be asked for the source, but here it is, appeared on multiple Kojima Station episodes, writer of the official MGSV novelization, and even ended up a co-writer on Death Stranding.
This article is good for filtered anons who feel betrayed by the game somehow.
famitsu.com/news/201602/26099526.html
(Futurasound Productions' videos on MGSV are good too but "e-celeb").

Fun fact: The MGSV novelization is narrated by Ishmael who talks about "Your" adventures as Ahab
pastebin.com/3m93ExcY
the whole thing didn't get translated yet, and according to the writer the novel is spot-on, except for Quiet dying and a DD character who isn't in the real game.

>big boss literally tells you that you're big boss
fucking brainlet can't even listen or read what characters on screen are telling him

There are already 4 games where you play a clone of big boss. Why is this such a twist for you?
