Probably Heritage to the Future. Ridiculous balance aside its aesthetics are incredible and it's a lot of fun to learn and play at any skill level. Also might be SamSho II or VS but II is more nostalgia as it was the first SNK game I ever touched and I've definitely played more Heritage than V Special.
I love the Vs series but MvC1&2 are complete messes in terms of balance (mechanically for 1, roster-wise for 2) and I prefer MSH to the pre-MvC Vs games. CvS2 might be it if the roster wasn't fucking boring.

Alpha 2 had Custom Combo my man, I like the game a lot (I'll play it before A3 even if A3 has more stuff in it) but Custom Combo is cancer and drags down any game that has it. Third Strike would be fine if they toned down the Top 3-5 characters and tuned up the bottom ~third; I'm buttmad to this day that SFIITHDR got people complaining so much about an OPTIONAL rebalance that they scrapped plans to give 3S one for 3SO. 3S actually would've really benefitted from any sort of balance shakeup as long as it wasn't pants on head retarded.

Most characters that let you control your Stand separate shit on those that don't with only a couple exceptions. Even without PetShop there's a lot of 8-2s and 9-1s.
Saturn and Dreamcast arcade ports are almost always perfect.

It wasn't EVO, just a FT10 exhibition. LTG (big guy) talked mad shit to Viscant (chinlet) and calls him a crackhead, Viscant accepts challenge in SFIV despite not playing much SFIV. Viscant calls him Black DSP, proceeds to win the FT10 by like 3 or 4 games, then apologizes because "calling you Black DSP is an insult to DSP, also I'm not a crackhead because I actually spend my free time helping people with addiction get sober, so fuck you suck my dick."

This game just has something about it. How half the roster is staples and the other half is clearly weirdos Capcom liked, how the Infinity Gems were incorporated in a way that while a little busted is actually fun, the amazing sprite work, the great music that mostly wasn't topped until MvC1, weird quirks like Shuma's stage having no corners and Anita being a secret character. Honestly this is my favorite Marvel fighting game to actually play among the sprite-based ones (I actually like UMvC3 most), even though MvC1 has even better sprites & music and the cool crossover roster with guys like CapCom & Venom.
