There is literally no girl more pushed with the protagonist than Aigis. In every single P3 related thing she gets pushed with the P3 protagonist. The movies, the spinoffs, the stage play, and so on she gets pushed with him and the fans love it. There’s no outcry from the other waifufags like there would be for P4 and P5 if any girl became canon because there is not enough of them for Atlus to care about. Aigis is what sells anything P3 related and Atlus knows this. Marie gets immediately forgotten by Yu after Golden and Makoto gets shoved aside for Sumire.

To be absolutely fair your ability to romance characters is not referenced in story cutscenes whatsoever. The girls shit on him in actual story content anytime a scene calls attention to his attractiveness or his behavior around women. I'd also argue that whether or not he's a Mary Sue is entirely dependent on your own dialogue choices.

without mitsuru there is no sees to join or vehicle to support fighting the shadows
without yukari there is no incentive to uncovering the truth the kirijo group had locked away, which includes her father releasing those shadows into the world
both of those characters have far more significance and development throughout the game than aigis, whose impact is again, focused entirely at the end of the game instead of all throughout it
and yes, when a character joins the story is important to be qualified for the deutaragonist. you wouldn't say naoto is the deutaragonist of p4, despite easily being the most popular girl and roughly equivalent to the protagonist in ability
