with the release of next gen consoles approaching a question keeps bugging me: why does xbox keep on selling? you want mods, free online multiplayer and customization options? you play on pc, even a shitty laptop can run most stuff nowadays. you want a handheld? you get a switch. even the ps5, though it doesn't exactly look like a must have, does have a sizable amount of incoming games that most likely won't come out anywhere else for at least a few years. so, if a ps5/pc combo would have you covered on both pc gaming sheaningans and exclusives, and a switch/pc combo would have you covered on portability, what does an xbox actually have to offer?

It's only popular in America and only because the last gen had established xbox as the household name. Think back to when the uninformed would call everything nintendo. It was a little understandable though considering the people making those mistakes weren't playing it themselves. Xbox "gamers" are just uninformed and don't care about content other than one or two games. As for the enthusiast, the only argument you can provide is that the xbox tends to have the most stable build of multiplats. Pc can be weird with hardware variety and ps4 has shockingly difficult devkits for what it is. Pretty weak justification to spend that much dough though.

pc is for enthusiast and is literally not even worth it unless you spend over $700. games consoles are a worthy trade off. in the specific case of the xbox the library is so massive you will never be bored. i can go from playing ac odyssey to warzone with friends to red dead redemption 1 via back compat to kotor via back compat. literally the perfect all round machine for the money you can save from not buying fast food over a few months.

you can use developer mode which they constantly give away for free or if you have to pay it's like $20 and you can install retroarch on it and play emulated games.
pirating is shit unless you're super poor because there are no achievements on online capabilities. i can go to a used game store and buy a physical used game version for cheap which is better than pirating. or i can borrow a copy of a friend like i am now with the OG xbox version of splinter cell double agent (aka the best version).
