I've thought this since Corrin. Hell, even though my main is Smash 4 DLC you could give me Brawl's roster instead and add Mewtwo and I'd be pretty content.

you take a few steps back and look at Ultimate's guest characters, none of them are conventionally THAT popular in present day bar maybe Persona carving a nice niche for itself

Castlevania, KoF and BanjoKazooie are effectively dead, and only one single country likes Dragon Quest

I wonder if they'll ever add another guest character that genuinely resonates with normies again. Also, Nintendo fans don't play other games outside their platform so that's why you see more niche shit like Shantae and Rayman suggested

I've been pretty happy with most of the newcomers. There are some first-party possibilities that I'd like to see, but it's at the point where I'm not going to be particularly displeased if they're not picked in favour of someone else. Just go with the flow, man. Everything from here on out is a bonus. That you pay for. Maybe.

Minecraft is at its heart a shitty ripoff of the glut of late 2000s voxel games that happened to hit it big with an intersection of obnoxious YouTubers and school age children. Its success is some cross between mistake and coincidence, and doesn't deserve to stand with series that have pedigree, originality, and intention. Fuck Minecraft.

Pretty much. We've got major first parties, major third parties, major fan requests, major fighting game characters, and even some good stuff that was surprising like Hero. Anything at this point is just icing.

Luckily, the characters that are internet popular within the Smash community are almost never the ones that actually get chosen. Of the 7 DLC characters, only 1 could really be said to be a fan choice. Which is why it's amusing when people give their "predictions" and every signle one is a huge rosterfag character e.g. Dante, Geno, Crash, Doomguy, Reimu, Shantae, Phoenix, etc.

I mean I've been playing Ridley non-stop since launch and it's the most fun I've had with Smash since Brawl.
I feel extremely fortunate to be in a position where I can just look at newcomers and just think "oh that's cool" even if I don't care much for the fighter.

Ultimate's roster is so shitty and bloated. "Everyone is here" sounded good on paper, but then you realize most of the characters are clones or play the exact same. Also, looking at the roster itself is just an eyesore.

A lot of assist trophy character would be more interesting to have as playable than another Pokémon

The current crop are never getting in, anyway. The previous crop had been the ‘current’ crop for like 15 straight years, and they put them all in practically at once. There hasn’t been enough time for characters like Doomguy, Reimu, Dante, etc to have been wanted on a large scale for them to be considered for inclusion.

The only mascot tier character that feels like it's missing is Hayabusa.

Other then him, Crash and Chosen Undead would be cool, but those are the absolute last ones I can think of.
