Literally "trying too hard" the game. Felt more like a lifetime movie. The attempts to appeal to the audiences emotions were so transparent and thin that I'm amazed anyone actually felt anything.

Mother 1 had soul, but it had shitty game play. When Earthbound Beginning came out I played the first one... it lacked a lot of stuff, the enemies were hard, and it got boring without knowing what to do. I played Mother 2 instead.

Many games require blurring to look good because they tried to do stuff with CRT lights. Earthbound isn't one of them, it's perfectly fine as sharp pixels.
