I just can't get into Morrowind

I just can't get into Morrowind.

I played Morrowind at 10 or so, but never got very far. Since then I've played and completed games like Oblivion and Skyrim, but I just can't get into Morrowind. I appreciate the uniqueness of the landscape, and the detail that went into it, but it just feels... too dated.
- There's a real sense of feeling lost the start. I've been to Balmora, found the blades, and joined the fighter's guild, but I still don't feel like I have any real direction in the game.
- The inventory system, while kind of novel with its floating windows, is awful.
- The dialogue clearly fills the world out nicely, but unfortunately it's incredibly cluttered. I'm at the point where I have 10+ options for each character. It's a nice exposition dump, but it does little for me.
- Even with light armour, the run speed is so god damn slow.

Why haven't Bethesda made remastering this into a pet project? They've declared TES 6 isn't coming soon. Starfield is going to come half past never. Am I alone in finding this game really, really hard to get into again? I feel like if you missed the peak time to play it in all of its sixth house cult glory, then it's going to be hard to learn to love it now.

You can't get into it because it's genuinely not a good game.
Morrowindfags are either blinded by nostalgia or scoring contrarian hipster points. It's that simple.

>Main quest tells you where to go and what to do
>Inventory system is literally drag and drop, can place shit directly into the environment exactly where you want it
>Encyclopaedia NPCs can largely be ignored
>Boots of Blinding Speed or alteration spells
Morrowind doesn't need remastering.

Reminder not to give this autist any (You)s

But I'm already doing the MQ/fighter's guild, it still doesn't feel like I'm really doing anything.

If this is my first time playing it with real substance, how do I know what's relevant and what's not? And further, how would I know about the boots of blinding speed?

I just got the image off of google mate.

>how do I know what's relevant and what's not? And further, how would I know about the boots of blinding speed?
The main quest references itself in the journal, if you're too stupid to remember the name of whoever gave you the mission. It backlinks to past quests.
You don't need the Boots, as you have other options. Silt striders alone cut out most of the travel time.

>Why haven't Bethesda made remastering this into a pet project?
They said themselves they will never do it. Why? Because they'd have to rewrite every piece of dialogue so that it's up to standards, since it's so shit as is.
>hurr durr just apply these bandaid solutions to something that should never be a problem in the first place it's fine

>Because they'd have to rewrite every piece of dialogue so that it's up to standards, since it's so shit as is.
I don't think Bethesda should ever be allowed to hide behind 'having standards' desu.

>hide behind
nigga you act like they're cheating their way out of an obligation or something, when all they're saying is that it's too much effort for too little gain since the market for this is tiny

I guess, it's like a kid saying they don't want to do something, but won't admit it's because they're bad at that thing.

>be business
>logically conclude that it's not worth putting your writers to work on a project that won't sell well, will directly pull resources from your more important projects and will keep them busy for a very long time
>"lmao they're like children"

I would love to know what their important projects are, as they don't have anything coming out for a while yet.

>I've played and completed games like Oblivion and Skyrim
And it's this shit right here that ruins modern fucking gamers with dumbed down shitty gameplay that makes people actually hate on good, solid game design. You fucked up by playing that new garbage. Force yourself to forget that shit and dive into Morrowind, and you'll fucking enjoy it again. Don't constantly compare it to those dumbed down shit games that taught you the worst habits ever.
Fuck modern gaming. Gaming should fucking die.

>NOOOOO YOU CANT PLAY GAMES THAT ARE ACTUALLY ENJOYABLE YOU MUST SPECIFICALLY LIKE THE DULL UNFINISHED JANK I GREW UP WITH

>morrowind
>good, solid game design
pick one nostalgia-ridden troglodyte
they have two games announced
gee, idk

I played Morrowind when it was new. Sorry for your disability.

You don't have the required nostalgia.

>There's a real sense of feeling lost at the start. I've been to Balmora, found the blades, and joined the fighters guild, but I still don't feel like I have any real direction in the game.

There, you nailed it, that's the point. They gave you a big world to explore and feel a part of. You'd stumble onto large story revelations slowly making them more impactful when they did happen and not be funneled into epic scene after epic scene. Most of the time you'd just be out exploring and finding new locations.

I'm not sure I'd appreciate it now as much as I did when I played it originally but I loved it as a kid because I hadn't played anything like it.

>bumble about like a retard
>wooow so epic

I'm a zoomer who played it for the first time on Xbox one last year, it's fine, it does some things better than Skyrim even, you just need to apple the slightest bit of brainpower and you'll be fine

You are supposed to feel lost. Too bad game is super easy with auto recharging enchanted items and shit ton of gold everywhere. Things like tribunal only makes things even easier.

morrowind's biggest problem is you can break many quests without knowing it, none of the "quest items" have any kind of protection... meaning you could easily sell an item that you had no idea what unique and needed to continue in a quest chain
like the bittercup... drinking it will increase some stats by like 10, but youde never know its an essential part of like...the thieves guild or one of the guilds i forget exactly, the cup is worth a decent chunk too, using the cup or selling it without knowing where you sold it breaks the whole questchain

Players should be allowed to make mistakes. I was playing oblivion the other day and realized I somehow misplaced my best wizard staff I had been using for the whole game as well as the Skeleton key of nocturnal. I looked around for ages and considered reloading but I realized it's cooler that consequences like that can occur. Now that was all my own fault of course, but imagine if the game actually had built in failstates for most quests or tasks. Would be cool.

Ah, so you're a fellow retarded frog poster. I understand, enjoy your day.

Yes. (you)-baiting is part of the cancer killing this website.

Remaster Oblivion.
Morrowind is beyond saving.
