F-Zero's machines are "locked" to the track at a certain height, while Wipeout ships are repelled from the track dependent on the distance. Baisically superconductors vs magnets. F-Zero is stiffer and snappier, while Wipeout is smoother and more technical. F-Zero's "top speed" is cruise speed, you go faster than it most of the time if you are good, while Wipeout's top speed is speed you strive towards and try to not lose in corners.

Well the pack is what, 100 tracks big? You could cut that in half and we would have plenty of variety. Just use a bit of judgement.

The better comparison would be F1 vs rallying.
