Literally "trying too hard" the game. Felt more like a lifetime movie. The attempts to appeal to the audiences emotions were so transparent and thin that I'm amazed anyone actually felt anything. The attempts to juxtapose the sentimental shit with wacky humor failed on every front too.
I'm honestly blown away that people like this game, it was such a colossal step down from the first two.
I like it way less then the other 2 but its still fun to play once.

Never felt that way exactly but I dont enjoy how everything is explained and so in your face, 1 and 2 specially 1 have so much hidden content and indirect story telling its amazing
3 is very dumbed down in that sense, and of course Im sure the 64 version would have been much better, they had to cut like 4 chapters in the transition and many mechanics.

Earthbound feels more chill and kinda fun just wandering around the world, loose and enjoyable
Mother 3 felt more emotionally charged and story engaging, the characters felt more fleshed out since they put most of their eggs into the 'story basket'
I like both games, that being said holy fucking shit are these games overrated as shit. Everything revolving around the whole 'Earthbound-like RPG inspired shit and the whole 'BEST GAME OF ALL TIME' spiel is fucking obnoxious.
