for me, its the black knight sword

Claymore

Claymore can't relentlessly stagger everything as hard as Zwei

nah, game Journalist mode is Drake Sword.

>game thought people would invest in resistance

If you think about it, any build that doesn't put anything into resistance is technically like 20 levels stronger than the game thinks you should be at any point.

But you can't swing the thing in closed spaces

Jump attack overrides wall collision

Didn't know that

Like most swords it has a lance like poke right? Just use that.

Zwei doesn't, you're thinking about the Greatsword which is a tragically underused weapon

>jumping in dark souls

My first playthrough I got fucked up by the rats under the hellkite drake and believed poison would be a much bigger threat than it actually was. I put a solid 10 levels into resistance as a result.

>implying journos could get past the skellingtons to get to it
>implying journos could properly understand the timing and spacing needed for big weapons

claymore also requires turning around after the dragon bridge, which is too complex for them

journalist mode is the halberd since it has easy stat requirements, hits hard, hits fast, and works against everything

Drake Sword doesn't scale. It's literally only good for Gargoyles. The Zwei is unironically Journalist Mode for the entire game. Just make that shit Lightning +5 and GG

It one shots everything in the earliest parts of the game where a shitter gets shattered the hardest when they don't know what they're doing

Zwei Jumping attack serves the same purpose. No reason not to use it, since better stats / range

zwei has a poke for it's two handed roll attack

Drake sword doesn't need to scale, the damage is fine for the entire game. The scaling meme is based on invading shitters that use it.

Jump attack as in Forward+HeavyAttack, retard.

>he doesn't know
Did you even play the game, user?

The Drake?

Yeah, sure. That's absolutely true, but it's trash by Capra. Honestly, I might be tempted to say Baller Swag is Journo Mode as long as they have a guide to tell them how to build.

Greatsword has higher reqs and is heavier than the Zwei, but that poke heavy attack makes it worth using.
Stack poise and use the Leo Ring; you can trade hits with bosses and win.

Drake sword has very little range (almost dagger tier), and a garbage moveset. A completely new player is going to have an easier time with a longsword or shortsword. And early game they might not even understand weapon upgrading or scaling, so they get this drake sword, it does big damage, and then they don't experiment with anything else.

A level 2 short/broad/long sword will oneshot rats for instance.

bss is a whore to farm in the first place, not dependable enough compared to the world drops like zwei/claymore/halberd

lol no
A new player will use the drake sword because every hollow soldier dies in 1 hit instead of a pack of 3 hollow soldiers being a near-insurmountable challenge that will drain your estus before you even make any progress through the area. It's going to be seen as better by people who don't understand the combat system every time.

>Drake sword doesn't need to scale, the damage is fine for the entire game.
Damage us dramatically inferior, with much rarer upgrade mats, than almost any other comparable weapon by the time you're through blight town. Your levels + superior upgrade tier are going to make any other weapon the better choice.

I'm not saying you can't use it to beat the game. You totally can. It's not THAT bad. But if you want "Journo Mode" aka "cheese through the whole game with low skill gameplay" then you just have so many options for providing an -easier- experience.

Yeah, when you first play Dark Souls you don't realize how important scaling is or how you get increasing returns on increased AR.
A Drake Sword +0 has the same base damage as a Long Sword +15, and if you don't know any better you'd think that means Drake Sword is a good weapon.

>Zweihander is the best weapon in the game
>Zweihander is better than Drake Sword early game

Says fucking who? Casuals?

Me, an intellectual

Drake Sword is fine, speedrunners use Drake Sword and not Zweihander because the Zweihander is slow and useless as shit. I dont know if you got your idea that the Zweihander is a good weapon from the Giant Dad OnlyAfro video but you are a colossal retard if you think that weapon is even good.

That moveset is straight up garbage for speedrunning and for pvp.

I think Black Knight weapons might be the truest Game Journo mode.
You have several opportunities to find one as a random drop, they get most of their impressive damage from base damage rather than scaling, they upgrade with twinkling titanite (which can be found on lizards, farmed from clams, and bought infinitely at anor londo), and even have a damage bonus vs demons.
I suffered thru the catacombs with a +0 weapon on my first playthrough and it broke me; I had me eureka moment and started to love the game; shortly after I killed the black knight in the area and got the BKGA; talk about goin' from 0 to 60.

The problem with greatsword is that it's shorter than zwei and its r2 doesn't cause the same metric fuck ton of poise damage as Zwei's.

You suck at the game then. You can beat it with any weapon sure but Zweihander isnt the fastest or easiest way at all.

Black Knight Halberd if not you stick with the Drake and put everything into VIT or END for free, you dont even have to level STR or DEX you can ignore those for so long.

BK weapons ruin the newbie hard game experience of Dark Souls in my opinion. Those really do make the game so easy. DS2 and 3 dont have this problem.
But whatever the game is old as fuck anyway, difficulty isnt supposed to be consistent.

>implying journos would do anything other than die to a black knight/subsequently run from and avoid all future black knights especially in 2011

you can just run past the skeletons & you don't need "spacing and timing" when you have comically overpowered poise and the pancake to loop everything to death

Speedrunners use Drake Sword for a brief amount of time because UNUPGRADED it's better than an UNUPGRADED Zwei, sure; but you can easily upgrade a Zwei, whereas Drake Sword reqs Dragon Scales and 10k souls per upgrade.
Speedrunners also moveswap any weapon they get with a rapier for better DPS via spamming the WDR1; just because something matters to speedrunners doesn't mean it matters for regular play.

Halberd and a shield, then turtle and poke and complain about how the combat is slow and clunky

Speedrunners immediately go for the BKH and reset if they don't get it

It doesnt matter. A journalist faggot would have a really hard time beating Kalameet with the Zweihander compared to any BK weapon.

Nobody gives a fuck about poise damage, it just has to be enough to loop the skeletons in hitstun thats it, a regular ass Halberd can do this with R1.

Does the Zwei R2 have additional poise dmg?
I know it can flatten NPCs, but I thought that was its own special effect.
Versus bosses I haven't noticed a difference.

In BKH route sure; that's not the only route that exists.

Nobody that knows how to play that game & is doing something competitively like speedrunning or pvp uses the Zweihander for anything other than Giantdad memes. Face it your favorite weapon is shit. It can be toggled so easily to avoid its hitstun as well.

god i really do weep for the journos when it comes to dark souls, i wandered through most of tomb of the giants without a light source because i never got a lamp and inching forward a step for like 20 minutes at a time to just get knocked off a cliff by some skelly boi blastin me from across the map woulda been so fucking brutal if i had to beat it to write an article with crunch time

>Not slapping every fucker you can with the biggest, heaviest chunk of metal you can find
I bet you wear dresses, or as mages call the, robes.
