Why don't games have mirrors anymore?
Why don't games have mirrors anymore?
UE4 is perfectly capable of mirrors, not sure why they aren't here. Also what the fuck is up with those N64 objects on the shelf.
The same reason you never fight more than 1-4 enemies at once now.
Everything is so detailed the game can't render anymore models being on screen.
>meanwhile Serious Sam 4 is coming out and has thousands of enemies on screen at once.
a pointless detail that more people wont notice
I freaking hate Square Enix
What's more disgusting to me is how most of Midgar and its plate is a flat image. Much of it could be simplistic 3D objects, which would do wonders in establishing scale and distance.
I'm playing Control with RTX and every single surface in the game is a mirror. They definitely went overkill with it to turn the game into a ray tracing tech demo but some tiny details like seeing your actual distorted reflection move across a small trashcan or fire extinguisher rather than a generic reflection texture is pretty cool. Also bought the game partially on the hopes that the second DLC turns out to be an Alan Wake follow-up like the rumors say.
That's cool and all but the game was still utter wank and I dropped it in the first 2 hours.
It's alot worse than what we thought.
Textures haven't loaded yet. You saved the game and loaded your savefile then took a screenshot as soon as you got in game.
Is there any AAA dev that puts less effort into their games than Squeenix?
Cope hahaha cope and seethe
When I played on my PS2 I used to think about games in the future. I played ww2 games and I thought "wow in the ps3/4 we'll have a d-day level with hundreds of soldiers". I was young and naive.
7 remake is shit. More news at 11
2000
Reads like your typical barry post lol.
2004
Deadly Premonition 2 has fully functioning mirrors funnily enough
And it respects trans people.
i wish i knew what was ironic anymore
How can mirrors be real if our games aren't real?
why do tendies obsess over bathroom textures in sony games but accept literal 0 FPS framerates in their own games?
>literally 0 fps
lmao.
cod WWII game does a pretty good d-day level
1996
Rendering is becoming too complex. Developers are foregoing cool utilitarian features like render textures so they can stuff their games with 10 trillion poly character assholes and stupid shit like god rays. UE4 render textures are total dogshit, and the pipeline is far too bloated with garbage for a 3rd party developer to work with.
Note that Unity can handle RT's pretty well, which is why Tarkov (unity) has PiP scopes and Sandstorm (unreal) has them turned off by default because they drop frame-rate by enormous margins even at low resolution. Mirrors use the same tech, older games with less shit to do while rendering can handle them much easier
OH NO NO NO NO NO
Bethesda
mirrors arent realistic, theyre a toxic meme pushed by the altright.
a touch of malaysian
THEY HOLDING US DOWN
THEY PUSHING CARTOONY "STYLE" MEME TO JUSTIFY HOLDING US DOWN EVEN MORE
UE4 has actual planar reflections.
Meme lighting methods take precedence over small details these days, so mirrors look like shit, but WOW LOOK AT THE REAL-TIME SHADING ON HIS ELBOWS OOOOOH AAAAAAAH
Damn, I'm looking good!
The way this was done was having an invisible wall between two copy-pasted sides of a room and loading in a second Mario and a whatchacallit cloud koopa guy that mimic your movements in reverse in real-time.
And it worked so why the fuck don't they do it like that now if using lighting to make a reflection is too costly on performance?
Cloud's just a dream from Zanarkand or some bullshit, man. Dreams don't have a reflections. Jeez play the damn game.
