I thought those A.O.T games were decent?

Why isn't there any anime that even comes close to the quality of AoT?

I hated snk early on because it was just Eren being the typical screams loud and gets emotional protag fag. Now he's the most based protag in history.

I maintain people who shit on AoT never made it past the first reason. Or they were filtered by the pivot in season 3

It goes from fighting the entire world, into your entire world being 0.5% of the actual world and having 99.5% of the world hate you

The reason it worked in AOT is because every twist makes the story and characters more interesting, AOT continuously only ever gets better for the most part.
Meanwhile something like TLJ is shit because it just subverts your expectations by going "this thing you thought might be cool? Yeah, it actually is really lame and pointless lol".
AOT has some of the most satisfying pay-offs I've ever seen, the basement reveal for example was like 1000 Chekhov's Guns firing at once.

it switches from post-apocalyptic survival and becomes more of a political thriller with occasional massive action sequences

the vibe of the first season basically ends with that season, and after that questions start getting answered sooner than you expected and raise new questions you never would have guessed you'd be asking

Yeah it's great, very faithful to the manga and all changes are either done with the author's approval or even at his request.
Music and animation are good too, only issue is the slightly too slow pacing in season 1.

It's contrived trash in reality. You have to be pretty forgiving to enjoy it beyond the first season. The continuity doesn't make sense and the only way it would subvert any expectations is if you aren't paying attention to their formulaic bullshit.

It goes from straightforward "anime The Walking Dead but the zombies are giant" to something far more brainfucky. The key is that the twists are properly foreshadowed without being obvious, and thus feel extremely earned and satisfying.
