It's a classic game that's why.

As time passes more and more copies are destroyed, found a permanent owner or other circumstance that makes it so there are less copies floating around. It's the nature of things.

Forgot. There is that rumor that the PS5 will be PS2 compatible so maybe people are getting their hopes up.

Are you retarded?

I thought they said it would be PS4 only? with some streamable ps2/1 games

I got it for like 10 quid a few years ago

Answer the question or get the fuck out of the thread. Good post you fucking moron jesus christ this board is going to reddit quick

>nooooo stop having a greater-than-room-temperature IQ! that's for REDDIT!

>reddit spacing

1. It's popular.
2. It can never be properly ported.
3. People are desperate for money.
4. People that aren't desperate for money are bored and want a nostalgia kick.
5. People that aren't desperate and aren't bored are charging ridiculous prices to take advantage of everyone else.
Once the virus blows over, you can expect the prices to go back to the forty dollar range.

They made enough copies for 19 years ago.

Discs get destroyed because gamers are morons with no discipline or self control. Houses burn down. Hell some people just throw out old tech no need for the Galaxy S6 when you got the S10.

Someone probably figured how obsessive Silent Hill fans are and started making bank.

Wasn't it the most well-sold game in NA? Over a million or so. How can it be more expensive then some other rarer, equally sort out after games?

Im still waiting for my fresh copy of Oboro Muramasa to be worth more than $50 dollars one day

Shattered Memories is underrated.
game was really good, i'd say is the best western SH

I still think that Konami should release the beta source code they have for Silent Hill 2 and 3 under the MIT license so fans can fix the games.

Just emulate it.

It's a classic so people want it more.

Also, I really need to restate just how reckless the average gamer is. My friend back in high stepped on and broke 3 discs of Madden 2003 and at least 2 GTA 3s. That's assuming they kept the case and manual (where the real money is). You can "get a copy of Silent Hill 2 to play" for the same $50 it retailed for. But people want the case and manual, the "tangibles".

PS5 will get silent hill 2 the HD 'remaster' version :^)

>unironically paying out of the ass for this shit when you can simply just set up the PC versions and get the superior experience

Are physical/collectorfags oblivious or genuinely mentally ill?

None of these versions have been able to capture the PS2 fog.

I've thrown out a copy of Silent Hill 2, because I got scared and thought it was bringing me bad luck.

True, all the games I got as a kid were thrown out eventually somehow and I have no idea where my ps2 went. Wish I kept them in safe conditions.

>2. It can never be properly ported.
Can a game be replicated properly (as in remaster/port) without the source code, given enough time or dedication?

The World Ends With You Final REMIX for switch is already absurdly overpriced.

I bought this game along with 3 and 4 off ebay back in 2015 or 2016 for around $20 to $35 each. I just checked ebay and they're all going for $80 to $120 each wtf.

isn't that what reverse engineering is?

yeah but shit can take fucking years

Not him. First and foremost, there is source code, beta source code but source code nonetheless.
Second, reverse engineering a game can take years. I'm not joking.
It took eight years for the ScummVM Team to sucessfully reverse engineer the engine used in Blade Runner by Westwood Studios.
>The four core people involved in getting Blade Runner on ScummVM have been working with the title for years. Thomas Fach-Pedersen, from Denmark, said he started the project eight years ago when he began reverse-engineering the game.

yes

so is mgs2 and yet you can find a copy of that CIB for under 20 bucks.

You can get it brand new for twenty bucks. Unless you are calling it a garbage port, which case I would agree with you.

wish more publishers would reprint their shit like atlus

but I get why they don't

not in AUS or UK. maybe PAL is more limited. Is it cheap on Amazon US? I don't mind waiting. Switch is region free, right?

Oh God why didn't Konami just not shitcan their own copyrighted code. Fuck.

So I'm guessing you can't emulate the original Silent Hill games?

managed to get silent hill 2 and 3 CIB on ebay like 2-3 years ago for like $30-$40. Now I go to look for 4 on ebay and its $90.

I still think that if they release it to the public, fans will do all the work.
Hell, if they're very paranoid, they can use the GPL license and later pay the developers of one of the decent source ports to port it to consoles.

The Switch is region free. I was off. You can get it for about thirty bucks in the US.

the aussie equivalent of Gamestop has it for $67 aud preowned. prob best ill get it. Its getting harder to find. people already throwing it on ebay for shit loads.

Playing this game while stoned is so fun, it makes it 10x as scary

horror fans will pay out the ass

>silent hill
>rule of rose
>haunting ground
>ku-on

artificial inflation. Scalpers are bidding up their own shit no big deal.

Is there any reason NOT to get SH4 on Xbox for $50 cheaper

The real question is who is actually buying it for this price

it's because of all the faggot video essays calling it a psychological horror masterpiece so all the onions golems need to own a copy to display on their shelf next to their avengers box set and agent dale cooper funko pop

nah silent hill 2 actually emulates very well on pcsx2, but i just recently got a nice trinitron and a ps2 and was considering picking it up. but i dont think id pay more than 50 bucks for it.

Glad I bought mine when it was still cheap.
Really good condition too. Don't even know why they noted manual pen marks, it was clean
