Make a SH inspired game

the medium got me thinking of one question...
when will the PS5 pre-orders begin?

Considering it's Layers of Fear, what do you expect that isn't holding up on the controller

>don't add exploration or puzzle solving
and you know this about the Medium how?

It has all three of those.

observer are pretty good

It would be amazing if they could make SH actually scary (the series isn't scary and never has been). Maybe adding tense gameplay elements instead of "mash pipe attack"

Not it doesn't
Blair Witch might be up your alley, it's by the same team

herp derp

> (the series isn't scary and never has been)
Silent Hill 1 exists

>pre-ordering a spooky walking sim
Cringe

What is your definition of scary?

my bad, to make it more clear, I want to pre order a PS5 system not this game

Yes it does. You have psychic attacks, the game has puzzles, and exploration is kinda root to the genre.

There was puzzle solving in SM though

>blair witch devs
OHNONONONONONO

I am liking observer so far, only complaint is some interaction with objects requires retard levels of mouse movement

not quite. Harry is still an invincible killing machine which just kills all tension

Got it
>psychic attacks
So something akin to Blair Witch's flashlight?

So walking simulator?

Just play on hard you casual

I like the dual screen reality totallynotsilenthill thing, but if it's just walking fuck that.

>So something akin to Blair Witch's flashlight?
>i-i-it doesnt count... its not guns!

Holy shit fuck off already. Unironically.
Not every horror has to be some shitty resident evil clone with guns.

Something like SH, but with consequences for death, enemies and obstacles that pose a threat, mechanics that add tension (SH4 had this to be fair), etc.

It's still easy as fuck on hard lmfao. do you really think Harry isn't a beast on hard?

>don't add combat
good. as soon as you have the ability to kill something it's no longer scary.

>as soon as you have the ability to kill something it's no longer scary.
This couldn't be further from the truth, limiting the amount of healing items and ammo keeps the tension

He isn't, he dies pretty quickly and enemies are a hell of a lot tankier than you

Pathologic 2 might be great for you. It's stressful as fuck, has punishing death penalties, and is pretty horrific in a tense way

>implying Blair Witch's flashlight could even constitute as combat
No, you fuck off. It's bad enough we have slim pickings on good horror games nowadays, don't need people like you lapping up mediocre shit which will lead to more mediocrity. Also from the article I found the psychic powers don't seem to be used for combat
Zoomer mentality. If you want to make a stealth game then at least flesh out the mechanics

>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUH GUNS
Kill yourself.

Well at least until you get the fucking hammer in the hospital, then you might as well rename yourself to Harrius, God of Melee

Médium will be nominated game of The year

Videogames will literally never be scary. The slight advantage they get from immersion is offset by all the game qualities they possess.
Games are built on repetition, rote memorization, and fairness. Great horror is built on constantly surprising you, defying logic, and being totally unfair in favor of villainy. Games can only be scary "for a while," and then they stop being scary. After a few minutes in SH/RE/Clock Tower/Amnesia, you've experienced all of the horror and it turns into an exploration game.

Hiding in closet simulators are one of the biggest fucking mistakes in gaming, change my mind

>>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUH GUNS
Why don't you want mechanics in your game user? Resource management adds engagement and tension

Id rather have a cool horror game that isnt limited to
>You can only use guns

Walking backwards and swipe beats literally every enemy

>implying no combat is a cool alternative

Observer was only good because Rutger Hauer did the voice for the protagonist.

It is, you might actually have to think about avoiding enemies :^). You do have a brain right?

>Great horror is built on constantly surprising you, defying logic, and being totally unfair in favor of villainy.
Great horror has established roles, rules and regulations in it, rather than asspulls. A good horror will give you a broad rule and then play some with it, but you can't say it's designed around defying logic. There should almost always be an x+y=z setup to horror. Horror, good horror, is cause and effect incarnate to me.

Was Medium on the Console Launch "Exclusive" line up or xbox/win10 exclusive section, i can't remember.

>Videogames will literally never be scary

You have never played a single game in your life you fucking baby.

>you might actually have to think about avoiding enemies :^)
The classic RE games and SH games already did this. I know you're too young to have played them though and you probably think Outlast is good or some shit

Yeah it was

Probably a year until it hits steam/ps4/whatever then

I mean that is a lot of the charm, but i'm still pretty engaged so far due to the ambience and overall look. It might start to lose its luster once I get farther in, but so far i've been enjoying it

>outlast
Can we blame that for the shit fuck "run like a bitch and hide under beds" shift that's so prevalent in horror as of late? Or should we go back further and say Amnesia be more to blame?

>So something akin to Blair Witch's flashlight?
No. The game has some kind of psychic shield, psychic attack system.

People who know what they fuck they're talking about reference how early Penumbra had combat and nobody liked it.

Amnesia started it but at least it had some old school adventure elements and some cool lore to keep it interesting from start to finish. Plush the whole insanity mechanic was an attempt at spicing up encounters, even if it wasn't particularly fleshed out. Outlast was when devs started getting really lazy and copping out, stripping back as many layers of gameplay as possible to "create tension" or whatever

>no one linked the gameplay showcase

They did say the spirit well power allows some sort of retaliation against spirits. Granted, I don't know why some people are crying foul about deception and saying it's not what they expected. This is the first time there is even any extended gameplay sequences involved with the game that has been released for people to see and if you like it, great, if you don't, then okay, that's your opinion.

And the psychic attack apparently won't be used for combat. The shield will probably let you sponge a few hits while you run away from an enemy to hide in a wardrobe
