It's not. As someone that has played nearly every FPS in the last 20 years, I can safely say that there's absolutely no reason for Valorant to even exist. There's no reason why anyone with a brain would choose to play Valorant over CS:GO.

Overwatch was at least able to create something that was a mix of an oldschool arena shooter combined with features such as classes + objectives that enabled casual players to also feel like they could participate. It had a place in the industry because it captured(despite it lasting only briefly) both casuals and hardcore FPS players.

This. Their rootkit anti-cheat is too goddamn suspicious. I'm not installing shit like that, especially for a game made to run on as many toasters as possible.

No, I'm just a desperate boomer who wants to relive the days of Q3A, UT99, Tribes and HLDM, so I have been chasing the dragon in search of finding FPS games that can capture that feeling despite knowing that it will never happen.

I teach at high school. All the kids raving about it last term (about 4 weeks ago) got bored of it during the latest school break. Meanwhile, we're still playing 24 player Insurgency at lunchtimes.

Fuck no. Valorant is generic but playable. Overwatch is fucking intolerable to play and actively aggravating.

Probably not. If I look at thinks in a realistic view, I think what I miss the most from those days is probably a combination of me being young and innocent + the general vibe of gaming communities back then. These days every game has a community that just feels extremely soulless.

I only play games with singleplayer campaigns.

Stupid Zoomer who liked Quake 3's multiplayer, I think Titanfall might scratch that itch if you have not tried it already......though the guns are either noob weapons or memes.....and has enemy AI and giant mecha.
Its not the worst game ever, certainly way better than fucking Call of Duty especially with the movement tech, though B-hopping is more of a slide hop instead, and theres even grenade boosting with the gravity star if you want to not kill yourself trying to rocket jump.

I don't particularly like CS, let alone a watered down CS clone with shit map design.
