Because of this game, future Mario spinoffs cannot heavily experiment with the Mario IP or make any OC that alters any core Mario design. It also likely kick-started the Disneyifcation of the entire franchise.
Thoughts?

I don't care, I enjoyed it and I loved Origami King.
PM64 was my first Paper Mario, played it at Christmas time as a kid the year it launched.
Fuck your autism, get over yourself.
Can we finally admit this game is on par with TTYD? Or are we too adamant on having a hate boner for this game?
Also, fuck Club Nintendo for influencing executives with a poll that few people participated in.
>Can we finally admit this game is on par with TTYD?
No even if you want me to compare an RPG with a platformer. It's mildly fun and has some charm but it has no real depth or variance in the way you can play it. I played it twice and I doubt I'll ever touch it again.
How well/badly did it sell?
Haven't played this in 10 years, time to go back
I think it was the best-selling one, but it had a lower attach rate than TTYD.
It would be great if all the people responsible for such decisions got into a car accident.
Truly, it was too based for this world.
Doesn't really mean much when the majority of Wiis were bought for Wii Sports and Wii Fitness
SPM could have sold 4 times as many copies as TTYD and still ended up with a lower attach rate, it's a meaningless metric in this context.
It really is fucking impressive looking at what the Mario games did with the characters and world through the 00s, and then it just fucking STOPPED in the 2010s. It's one of those rare cases where I think the whole "Soul - Soulless" thing actually applies. I also greatly blame New Super Mario Bros. That franchise, even if they were mechanically good Mario games, was the most bland, lifeless things to come out of the series. It felt like I was playing a product, not a game.
>Thoughts?
You're a fucking idiot. Nothing about Sticker Star onwards is experimental, it's safe and boring which is why they're all shit. SPM at least tried something unique and wasn't total garbage
>reading comprehension
TROOO FARRRRR!!!!

This but with Sonic
It's not the game's fault. It's the JRPG autists who swam up its butt for not being more of the same shit.
He says this, as Origami King is the third game in the Sticker Star formula.
How is Origami King like sticker star?
It follows the same adventure game formula with stripped out RPG mechanics, a heavier emphasis on puzzles, and battles that serve no functional purpose: an issue that should never have left the foundational idea stage, let along get three games over the course of eight years.
this, the wii sold 5 times more systems than the gamecube
Two of your 3 examples are literally the same thing and there's nothing wrong with puzzles. So basically no EXP = sticker star in your opinion. Really simple way to think really.
How am I repeating myself? Or do you think RPG mechanics solely amount to EXP? You could have purposeful, functional battles without RPG mechanics. But these games don't. They're built to be purposeless, and aren't integrated into the greater game itself. When Mario jumps on a Goomba, it doesn't take him to a separate screen that plays entirely differently from a platformer. If they want to go the adventure game route, they could at least have the dignity to not waste your time.
It sounds to me, on a personal level, you're looking to make a 'gotcha' moment out of me: hoping I don't understand why these games are bad, and that I'm just a strawman mad that there aren't partners and EXP. Don't do that. It's pathetic.
Except for arguably level design and music, EVERY single aspect of the newer games is worse than the first two.
Have people just forgotten that Odyssey exists?
They're clearly breaking back into experimentation with the series.
Tanabe is just an elderly hag who just refused to listen to fan feedback for 3 games straight.
There's a difference between the main Mario team finding new directions for the Mario universe, and the incompetents at IS sending mario to HELL.
Paper Mario has never been that great and it started going downhill since Thousand Year Door. Backtracking is not fun and I'll be blunt the whole "It's made of paper what a wonderful thing!" bullshit visual style garbage stared in there. Now every game looks more and more "fake" because it looks like paper. And it's just off putting.
Let's accept what Paper Mario is, it USED to be a Fuck You Squaresoft game. That's all it was. A big old fuck you to Squaresoft who became Square Enix. And much like any trendy thing that was only created to say Fuck You? It could not survive on being just that, especially because Nintendo legitimately is a mountain of shit at JRPGs. So they transformed it into a scenic paper bullshit type of game that doesn't truly have much in the way of engaging gameplay. It's like a ride at a theme park, one composed of paper. That's what Paper Mario is. And it is largely a piece of shit series and sadly Origami King is going to sell well thanks to the virus lockdown in combination with the stupid Switch being viral and popular. So expect even more of the same shit forever because Nintendo knows it will sell.
Your series was lost long ago and you JRPG fans have for most of its history NEVER been the intended demographic. Also to HELL with these shitty slow ass Captcha bullshit. Each time we need to solve TWO captcha because this shit tells us that the first one we solve is done incorrectly and then afterwards it lets us post. Why bother showing up at this shitty website? Fuck this shit show.
OP put the "Disneyfication" over the whole series when it's untrue now somewhat
I refuse to condemn Icarus for flying too close to the sun
They dreamed big damn it and we need that kind of energy again
i was incredibly disappointed with it. i disliked very much how different it was from ttyd and young me couldn't comprehend why they would change and remove so many of the features i loved.
Why the fuck are Paper Mario fans so autistic about what they want out of their games?
Because it's been 16 years.
