DLC BTFOs the main game

What games are like this?

BTFOs as in completely loses the appeal of the main game? Because that's what Torna did with its shitty retcon filled story and combat catering to brainlets.

How is the base game's combat even more nuanced?

witcher 3

Torna’s combat for such a shorter game, but it does remove the freedom of experimenting with different builds. It basically removes most customization.

*is fine for such a shorter game

I wish Torna BTFO the main game, it had too much filler for its own good.

I think when you're actually in combat Torna is much better though. You're incentivized to blade switch more and you actually have more control of the party AI

Who gives a shit about customization when everything still always played the same in XC2?
At least Torna adds some needed additional moves to the mix.

>Torna
>Retcon filled story
Im tagging you as a retard unless you explain yourself

Not him but it was pretty stupid that mikhail and mythra never acknowledged each others existence in the base game when they travelled together in torna. I wiuld say that is the main ij games fault though

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet.

Probably because Torna's story was written after the main game.

So it is a retcon

IIRC, I thought main game had flashbacks from Mikhail (before he died) showing he was part of Lora and Adam's group.

She also could have just not recognized him

It only shows that he's close to Lora and Jin, he's in the background of the only group flashback but never shown interacting with Addam and Mythra.

Splatoon 2

>Still haven't beaten the main game because the final boss was too hard
>Still haven't fully evolced the robot chick because I don't know how
>Still don't completely understand how orbs work
Man I really liked this game, but how much am I missing out on by not fightan malos

The Torna dlc was ne ER meant to be. Originally chapter 8 would have included much more flash backs, which were cut because of lack of time and ressources, so they decided to turn them into a fully fledged playable expansion. This is why Lora’s character arc (especially its resolution) feels so out of place, she was just a plot device in the main game but they had to give her a character for this dlc.

Anyone who puts 2's gameplay on a pedestal is high on the spectrum. Anyone with a functioning brain will realize how fucking garbage it is.

Sorry autists, complexity in the form of endless navigation through menus for optimal play and playing the wait game in gameplay for the EPIK CHAIN ATTACK OOOOH GOTTA BURST THOSE BALLS FOR MY ADRENALINE RUSH (and still have to destroy them all even if the enemy is dead, wasting time) is not good gameplay.

>getting filtered
yikes...

The seals you place on enemies work like debuffs on the enemy. You can break them during chain attacks for more damage, but that removes the debuff.

I made it probably halfway through the game. A good idea of whether a game is well designed or not is how long the fucking tutorials are. Nothing is intuitive in XB2 as you spend until Chapter 4 with gimped combat, old CRPGs are much easier to just pick up and play with much less explanation.
XB2 is system upon system, unlocking blades, field skills, the combat system itself(which is basically a linear progression through battles), some characters have only certain ways to be upgraded.
It all feels very arbitrary and unfocused.

Mik didnt even serve a purpose in Golden Country, he was just some random kid on the ride, and funnily enough all of what he could have been was used on that shota cat instead.
Probably the worst character right up there with Lao

>mikhail and mythra never acknowledged each others existence in the base game
Did they even meet up properly in the main game?

Even if it was not intentional, I love the idea that Mythra and Mikhail refuse to acknowledge each other because of how traumatic Miltons’ death was for both of them.

>final boss was too hard
I had the opposite issue. I struggled throughout mid-game against bosses like Jin, but Aion crumpled like tissue paper.

The single hardest boss in the game is fighting Morag with solo Rex in Ch 10. Who the fuck balanced this part of the game? Almost made me drop it.

The biggest one is that Judicium was either retconned into a civilization that fell long before the beginning of the war, or they simply made the decision to leave Malos and Mythra sinking one of the most powerful and influential countries in the world at the time next to Torna completely and utterly undressed in The Golden Country's story. The other wrecked battlefields like the one in Tantal are ignored as well, Malos and Mythra haven't even met in TGC and Mythra is treated and acts like nothing but a silly child with too much power who hasn't yet understood that power's scope, not a woman who has already seen the brutal extent of the destruction her abilities can bring even as she tries to protect the world.
The destruction of Auresco went from the city simply being caught up in Malos and Mythra's battle and destroyed by both Aegises to a targeted strike from Malos only to piss Mythra off. The discrepancy shown in the cutscene between the unsuspecting people in the city and the horrified onlookers watching the battle from outside was also retconned out.
Torna's advanced war technology is basically ignored and completely unused in the fight against Malos, in NPC dialogue Titanless ships are implied to be a brand-new technology with the Monoceros being the first, even though in XB2 multiple other Titanless warships are shown and Azurda is clearly familiar with their presence, commenting when he sees the Marsanes that he didn't think there were any left.
The population of Drivers in Auresco was completely retconned from Blades being a constant presence in daily life and making up a large part of the city's population to just one or two NPC blades in the entire DLC.
Jin having visited Judicium and seen their Titan weapons, and Mythra having seen Torna's ether cannons are never shown or even alluded to.

A few details might be inaccurate since I haven't played the game in a while, and I'm pretty sure there's more I'm forgetting, but that's just some of it.

they fight on the factory, Mikhail even coments on how beautiful Mythra looks when she uses Siren's cannon to attack them

Hearts of Stone for Witcher 3.

The main story was really good, but HoS blew it out of the water.

I died a lot on these one vs one too. That was infuriating, the story was well paced and then, stuck like a brainlet...

Literally the only reason why people even remember Dragon's Dogma.

We know that 3 great Titans fell. One is Coeia, another is Torna. The third one is most likely Judicium and it must have been the first to fell. In the main game we see Amalthus with Malos while he is destroying an entire fleet and continent in a flash back. At that point Malos hadn’t left Amalthus yet. It would also explain how Amalthus became aware of flesh/blade eater tech.

XB2(Main) is better than Torna. Get over it

I don't think Mythra makes a single comment when he protects the party and dies, either.
Her not recognizing him and Mikhail not caring enough to remind her would make since if Mikhail was just some random kid hanging around with Lora's party during the Aegis War, but Torna made Milton's death and Mikhail's reaction to it such a major part both of their trauma that it's absurd to think that she'd think absolutely nothing of a blond guy on Jin's side with the same hair and same name as Mikhail, and that Mikhail would have absolutely nothing to say other than "HURGH PRETTY" when seeing her again after all those years.
