A dude on gamefaqs got his copy like a week ago and has been posting his progress while posting screenshots/videos to show he's not full of shit. Said it took him like 47 hours to plat it with the main story only taking 25-30 hours depending on how much side stuff you do before finishing it.
That seems like a decent length, but knowing KT and Gust I fully expect them to add extra side stories as DLC at some point.

It confuses me that they would start so late in the series. You'd think they'd try to start as early as possible to sucker people into buying the manga/DVDs/collectibles.

Because like most of the time, these games are aimed at people that are already fans of the series and aren't a way to bring new people into it, so most people aren't going to care about it starting halfway.
They already announced that there's going to be 4 DLC characters and like 48 costumes launching less than a week after release, so you can bet they're going to squeeze as much money out of people as they can anyway.

Well, depend on how lewd you think it will go. It will probably never go beyond implied nudity and bikini girls.

All the really lewd shit is behind omake chapters and ovas. It's going to be weirder when his new series gets an anime since the lewdness is in the middle of story arcs and can't be pushed to the side. Like the third arc is about a fat alien that kidnaps cute girls to turn them into naked stone furniture and there is a point where 20 girls form a fully nude human pyramid in the shower to try escape

Give me the run down of what this is. Like, the story up to when this game starts. I like Gust for the most part and want to support an anime game that isnt just another arena fighter.

Magicians beat shit up, sometimes with magic something with their fists or feet. Very often the girls take a lot of damage to their clothes. They always win with plot devices or asspulls, but nobody cares since there are no clearly defined power levels at all. Did I mention girls often wear revealing clothes that become even more revealing as they take damage? I hope that bit is in the game.

Quick rundown. Basically the story takes place in a world where magic is common and magic users band together to form guilds where they more or less act as mercenaries and take various jobs to help people out, defeat monsters, deal with criminals, etc. Main Guild is the eponymous Fairy Tail, a guild that has a reputation for being very strong but they're also kind of wildcard fuck ups that usually end up causing a ton of collateral damage wherever they go or just pissing off the government in general.
The game's story starts about halfway through the series where basically the main cast was caught in a time bubble for 7 years while the rest of the world kept going on. When they come back the Fairy Tail guild has fallen from grace since all its strongest members were gone and the story picks up with them trying to restore it to its former glory.
