why the fuck is this game so popular? the gameplay and story are OK but the story is literally the most generic cliche zombie story ever, every story beat in this has been done in other zombie movies, even in the seasons of the walking dead that came out before this game was released, it feels like the same shit that was in there, the gameplay is just really generic stealth, with decent shooting, shitty puzzles and boring exploration
is it because it was released during zombie mania?
it's was very polished game with good production values at the time and people liked walking dead type of zombie stories
Alexander Long
it did a lot of the standard zombie stuff as good if not better than movies and tv, at least anything in the past decade. it's like a playable hbo show. it's just not for everyone. also the online was 9/10 with the only thing bringing it down was the large amount of wifi warriors from mexico on down to SA.
Owen Evans
it has soul
Adam Torres
characters' depth
Landon Foster
It's honestly the most overrated game in existence.
Sebastian Reyes
When will you gameplay cucks learn graphics and presentation are all that matters in this world
David Phillips
It's nothing compared to Resident Evil 4-6. Fucking nothing.
Josiah Carter
>Came out during peak zombie popularity >Slightly above average dialogue for a game >Less pulpy on the surface than most video game narrative, despite the zombies. >Solid production value >Storytelling is entirely cutscene dependent so it's "like a movie" >Gameplay isn't complicated >Rode the "You're a dad now" critical praise wave alongside Bioshock Infinite, TWD S1. >Had Sony marketing and Naughty Dog's reputation to drive initial interest.
I loathe the game due to it's praise for it's 'storytelling' but it's not hard to see why people liked it so much.
Robert Sullivan
Because it's good.
Luke Stewart
The number of people who make self-important posts like this about TLOU and act like they're voicing some unspoken truth is hilarious. >"The game is just decent, a 7/10 at best!" >"TLOU is really nothing amazing, it's overrated!" No OP, you didn't blow my mind, nor did the 10 million other people who said the exact same thing.
Alexander Nelson
Most gamers haven't seen that many movies or read any books so they think that Avengers end game is the peak storytelling
Carson Nelson
Because it's a good road-movie game with charismatic and interesting character named Joel and his relationships / dynamics / tension with a little girl Ellie. It's simple, yet effective. And the final is controversial and there's a lot of room to discuss who was right or wrong, about fatherhood, humanity and some religious metaphors (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binding_of_Isaac)
Sequel has nothing of that. #her_game is boring, uninspiring trash. Shit characters, shit story, shit final.
It looked good next to Bioshock Infinite when they both came out
Elijah Jones
>4 true >5, 6 wrong, they can't hold a candle to last of us
Parker Nguyen
it's popular because it makes you feel things
Anthony Gomez
Last of Us is a better survival horror game than 4 is
Julian Adams
let's be real, Joel was never THAT interesting nor had so much depth, he was just a guy who couldn't overcome his daughter's death You're trying to influence people into believing your narrative here
Eli Carter
>he doesn't like Resident Evil 6 I'm sorry user that you can't appreciate the game that has you riding a zombie shark and it be one of the least insane things in it.
Mason Hughes
It's a generic Hollywood movie without any artistic value and characters are just stereotypes we have seen countless times. But it's kinda the kind of shit normies tend to like: simple and derivative plot that takes itself way too seriously, "gritty" violence, generic anti hero, VERY unoriginal (normies start yelling "weird" or "pretentious" as soon as they see something creative or risky), high production values...
Connor Brooks
If you consider RE4 to not be survival horror and TLoU as a very light survival horror game then yeah, that's some faint praise.
Kayden Barnes
Joel was not even close to being considered charismatic
Lincoln Gutierrez
This guy gets it.
If you play Zombie Apocalypse Bingo with TLOU it seems pretty uninspired on paper. But the game is more than the sum of its parts.
The actual gameplay is a very solid stealthy survival horror. And the gameplay is perfectly balanced with the story to point of being seamless. The story informs the gameplay and vice-versa. At that time is was one of the best examples of a story driven video game ever made.
And then of course the game achieves extra points by having the story being genuinely engaging with great characters. And that ending elevates the game even further.
The industry has chased TLoU's recipe for nearly a decade and I can do nothing but yawn when I see 14 year olds on this board crying "it-its shit!".
I like how people summarize stories with "cliche this cliche that" like the a to b plot lines are what makes up the entirety of a story. You're not smart cunt, you're fucking dumb as hell. Just because your favorite anime has some convoluted to fuck plotline doesn't make it deep or compelling.
Easton Campbell
RE4 is an action-horror game
Brayden King
>the gameplay is perfectly balanced with the story to point of being seamless. Your co op companion can't even get spotted in plain view.
Eli Bennett
>he doesn't like Resident Evil 6 I'm sorry user that you can't appreciate the game that has you riding a zombie shark and it be one of the least insane things in it.
Luis Rivera
It was a video game for people who don't like video games. You just know everyone praising it played it on easy just to watch the movie.
Eli Ward
/thread everyone disperse
Parker Campbell
The game was a playable zombie movie, and a good movie at that. The sequel's gameplay was better in every way and was divisive story-wise because it wasn't a typical zombie story, but that was a good thing.
A LOT of spent advertising money. Slapping ads everywhere and slipping money to influencers/giving them keys is more influential to a game's success than actual game quality in 2020. Hype drives the industry now.
Brody King
>outing yourself as being autistic
Mason Evans
Why the fuck is Zig Forums suddenly sucking TLoU2's dick? Are you guys just so obsessed with being right all the time that after the sales were good you're just started pretending you always liked it? That's pretty pathetic.
Cameron Rogers
I don't know why Zig Forums has such a hate boner for naughty dog games. The whole "movie" aspect is a seriously overstated criticism. You'd think a company that never delves into shitty loot box territory and still cares about single player experience with unprecedented polish would at least garner some respect around here.
Alexander Watson
> the gameplay and story are OK only for people who either never played a game in their life before, or never read a book or went to the cinema before
Michael Ross
Well, you said it was seamless user. A better example of what you're describing would be Ico.
Ethan Martin
>Your co op companion can't even get spotted in plain view.
Even the TLoU Part 2 does this. There comes a point when 'realism' would just ruin the game. Mario can't really jump 20ft in the air either.
Dominic Campbell
>The game was a playable zombie movie, and a good movie at that. >underage character almost gets raped >literally never mentioned once after that or showing mental signs of mental stress
Jose Stewart
Dina actually gets spotted occasionally and breaks stealth
Samuel Diaz
Screeching about AI quirks has fuck all to with the seamless blending of story and gameplay. Get a real argument.
Cameron Sanchez
they are mad because the ending filtered them as the brainlets they are, and the whole joel drama made them look like manchildren it's hilarious reading these coping, in denial posts
