What the fuck is the rewind feature?
Yes
/thread
Who gives a shit.
He's not wrong. The modern gamur is shit at video games. I thought that was common knowledge for a good while.
Built in save states from the sound of it.
>NOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST BEAT THE VIDEO GAME WITHOUT MY ARBITRARY BOOMER RULES
Cope.
Does it matter if I still had fun
you can rewind frame-by-frame, it was added in an update last year I think. hold ZL+ZR to open the rewind menu.
i agree in terms of rewinding mistakes, but if you rewind sections because you enjoy them and like beating them in different ways, that's not to deal with "really beating the game" at all
rewinding is like modding, most are just cheats but some are just for fun and personal enjoyment
He's right. If you just rewind every mistake you're basically doing a TAS.
>NOOOOO YOU HAVE TO SUBJECT YOURSELF TO NEEDLESS REPETITION LIKE MEEEE
Get a load of this irrelevant, gatekeeping faggot.
I bond with people through my shared experiences. If you cheesed the game then our experiences were not shared and you can't pretend like it is.
Old games are ugly, boring and excessively punishing. Save states are one of the ways to make them bearable and to complete them in a reasonable amount of time when you have a huge backlog of better, more modern games vying for your attention.
Games are a vessel for fun not a checklist to fill out.
Yeah
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST REWINDERINO THE GAMERINO
me: youtube.com
Absolutely. Its like saying you beat the game using a gameshark or game genie back in the day.
Yeah I'm not ashamed to have used a guide to beat Metal Gear (MSX). I just wanted to experience it from beginning to end. I didn't want to spend 4x as long figuring things out for myself.
he's right
but
who cares?
I beat DKC that way :)
You are basically wishing for your death in video game to have zero impact on you being actually good in the game
>The modern gamur is shit at video games
they are, but in a way it's not their fault. modern games hold your hand through the whole thing, give the option for extra easy difficulty settings and have auto health regeneration. I finished Control last night and can't believe the number of people complaining online that it was too difficult to even finish. it wasn't a remotely hard game if you played the side missions and leveled up, but even if you didn't it's not hard. people just cannot fathom having even a small amount of challenge anymore.
The amount of fucking seething this post caused on Zig Forums because a bunch of casuals got called out was hilarious.
you didn't beat DKC.
He's right, but that didn't stop me from cheesing my way through Super Ghosts & Goblins the first time.
His elitist attitude is trash though. Because after cheesing through the game I had a blast playing through it the proper way.
Many old games get better if you cheat. This is as true now as it was back in the day when there was an entire industry built around helping kids cheat at video games.
But I did user, I finished the game
And never did, checkpoints and quick saving is built in most games. If you don't use any resource in-game when you fail, it just padding.
obviously, only a retard would disagree. but the real question is who the fuck gives a shit?
I agree
And there's nothing wrong with that.
I can and will pretend with your gatekeeping ass and you will not know the difference. Thirty year old games do not deserve the time and effort they demanded when they were first released.
Of course he is right
Any twitter opinion is right
You're still finishing the game with your own skill. Cutting out needless covered ground makes a lot of sense. But only if you value your time.
The fags who seethe at rewind are probably the same elitist dweebs who cling to autistic as Melee.
Zoomie baby dick gaming features.
All games should be played blind with the original save system in mind
youtu.be
Cant really call it skill if you can rewind and for example know what attack the boss is gonna do next
Nope.
Any game that wastes your time by making you do over content is just a shit game. It's a relic of older video game development, particularly pre PS1/N64, where they used ridiculous difficulty to give a game "longevity" by having the player complete it over and over again.
He's right, but NES games are also bullshit 80% of the time and can't be beaten without a guide
I'll be honest, I have no interest in beating some of those old games the "proper way". They come from an era where saving wasn't a standard feature and punishing arcade-style design was the norm to extend play time.
Imagine being 40 and feeling that strongly about vidya.
>twitter screecap
Examples of this?
The one that immediately comes to kind is Banjo-Kazooie resetting your note score if you die
the skill of the average gamer has gone up massively from thirty years ago, beating them legitimately compared to a clueless ten year old isn't even that bad
also, if you do enjoy video games, why do you want to make the gameplay as consistent and predictable as possible? thats the opposite of enjoyment, you're just checking off boxes
>he's right
>but
>who cares?
Irrelevant. The topic at hand is if it’s cheating and did you beat the game. Not if you personally care about said topic.
His shit opinion would hold more weight if nes/genesis era games weren't designed specifically to kill the player in the most unfair fashion known to man to extend play time.
There's a reason the game genie was so damn popular.
Most bosses are phoning their shit in anyway. Even in oldfuck games.
And to add one more point to this, let's plays and other modern youtube gaming content like what Mike produces got popular largely off of younger kids who either lacked access to older games or lacked the ability to finish them. Watching Mike plow through Contra or whatever is a modern extension of the old walkthrough/hotline industry. It's all about helping clueless kids see everything a game has to offer.
The existence of save states and rewind features are actually a huge step up since the kids are still interacting with these games (unlike with lps) and not resorting to guides which do all the problem solving for them.
These features are a direct detriment to a person like Mike's career. Imagine if somebody was able to fuck around with a rewind feature for ten minutes and learn how Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde actually works.
Obviously but it's still far better than people who claim they have beaten a game because they watched a let's play. Hell, no matter in what regard, someone who plays with save states and rewind is still lightyears ahead of people who watch let's plays.
>have a bajillion lives in game
>die at certain part
>rewind before the death so you don't play the easy part where you wouldn't have died anyway
>makes no difference because even if the lives were being deduced you'd still have a bajillion
>bUt YoU dIdN't BeAt Da GaAm!
I honestly use it on a few games just to save time, many NES/SNES-era games you'd need a guide to know where you're supposed to go, they can be obtuse and cryptic at times with with things hidden in random walls and shit.
on the one hand we have zoomers who say shit like "without cheating that old game is LITERALLY unplayable garbage (but I'm still gonna spend my money paying for roms instead of playing something newer so I can have Gamer Cred)" and on the other hand you have boomers saying rewinding is cheating but meanwhle they've never beaten contra without the konami code or yellow demon without the pause glitch
basically everyone is stupid except for me, the guy playing 5th gen games and more recent jp indie games that build off these retro game concepts without having the blatant arcade mindset of stealing your quarters being god
Yes, of course he is. I couldn't have gotten through Super Ghosts and Goblins the first time without it, I basically played on bitch mode and I'm willing to admit that.
But even then, I ragequit at the reset.
Forgot to mention, I would especially do this without thinking on a fucking autoscroller level.
>Jojofag
This cool website called www.reddit.com might be for you! They've got lots of epic memers just like you so I'm sure you would feel right at home!
the post you replied to answered the question you dumb dumb
The best example would be Super Ghoul's N' Ghosts and games like it. Running out of continues and/or lives and getting sent back to the start of the game is fucking terrible. Especially if you die to beginner traps.
>All games should be played blind with the original save system in mind
Too idealistic. I'm no longer a kid with two PS1 games and grandparents who won't buy more. I have access to torrents, can buy any PS4 game I want and have about ten games I'm currently working on and a huge list of more I'd like to try. I'm not going to treat games like they're the only one in the world by devoting huge amounts of time to them adhering to old save systems.
Well what did the faggot expect by playing snes games (that are not owned by him, only available by gaytendo subscription) on the switch?
He is 100% correct and anybody who excuses savestates or cheating is a casual pleb who ruined gaming.
>valuing your time means you're casual
It doesnt matter if he bonded with a random neckbeard, he still had fun :^)
you finished the game yes, but you didnt beat the game if you used save states.
