The More We Learn About ‘Halo Infinite,’ The More It Sounds Like ‘Destiny’

>Come hell or high water, it seems like Halo Infinite will indeed make its promised holiday launch window and be released alongside the Xbox Series X. After a somewhat odd gameplay debut at the Xbox Games Showcase, 343 is trying to better explain the glimpse we saw.

>And the more I hear about this game, the more it sounds like Bungie’s Destiny. And while I would not consider that a bad thing at all, it’s certainly interesting to see.

>The first aspect of this was something we learned right around the debut, that 343 is not making another full Halo game for a very, very long time (hence the “Infinite”) and that Halo Infinite will serve as a “platform” for delivery of future Halo content, whether that’s new campaigns, multiplayer modes, etc.

>That sounds almost identical to the strategy Bungie has adopted for Destiny 2, forgoing a Destiny 3 (which in a parallel universe, might have been released this fall) and instead continuing to make content for Destiny 2 for the indefinite future, using the base game as a platform. We are already three years into Destiny 2, and we have another three years (at least) of content and expansions scheduled for the game, as Bungie has already mapped out Beyond Light, The Witch Queen and Lightfall for 2020, 2021 and 2022. While Halo hasn’t gotten that specific, it’s clear it’s a similar concept.

343 said it will be set up like MCC, not destiny.

Oh god destiny was terrible
>Open world
>It was just a small sandbox with linear roads to other small sandboxes

>343 just chasing trends again
They're just hacks

If it's set up like MCC, the only difference is that there is no shared world co-op. There will be new campaigns and playlists will include the union of maps new and old.

It would be cool if they had some co-op specific campaigns planned, like Resistance 2.

>cutscenes that aren't either at the beginning and end of a dlc or just someone standing in the middle of the screen like in morrowind
>people showing emotion
>enemies that fight back and aren't hard because they have too much health
>landscape thats more than 3 oversaturated colors
>no web of menus and loading screens (so far)
say what you will about halo infinite, but don't drag it down to destinys level

To be fair, what else can they do? 343 is an inherently bad idea: by making a studio designed for the express purpose of being in charge of one singular series, you're automatically limiting the scope of the people in the driver's seat. Actual creatives who have the imagination and gumption necessary to spearhead a project will naturally veer as far away as possible from an environment like that, so you wind up only attracting followers.

And followers do exactly what their descriptive implies: follow. If Microsoft didn't want Halo to constantly be trend-chasing instead of trend-setting, then they should've looked for another proven studio to helm the series.

...AND THAT'S A GOOD THING!

But wasnt the only problem with Destiny is that the you had to pay money to get better gear and the fact you had to pay money for every expansion?

If halo infinite doesn't have this it should be fine, destiny wasn't a bad game it's just that it's poisonous microtransactions and DLC that ruined it.

It's typical Microsoft. All they have ever done throughout their existance has copied and followed already better products.

>To be fair, what else can they do
Do something new or just do classic Halo. Anything that isn't just trend chasing would be an improvement.

It's a total nightmare situation for a creative person, when talented people try to inject a bit of their soul in it the babies cry that its different and they either quit or become a husk who doubts their instincts and who can only ask themselves "Is this halo?". AAA game dev literally sucks the soul out of you.

>mindless endless looter shooter grindfest meant to sell you endless passes and seasons
God please no.

So its another Open World, Survival game that's in early access?

Anthem 2

the only real point of comparison is the ten year platform

we know halo will have XP though and some sort of upgrades, but we don't know anything about loot or anything like that. i don't think it even has an inventory system, so looting weapons is straight out the window.

Open world is so shit. It's so fucking shit and I hate it. When will this retarded meme die.

>if m$ higher ups at the time weren't so greedy halo could have had a nice conclusion and bungie would have been kept in line while making destiny
What could have been

>mindless endless looter shooter grindfest meant to sell you endless passes and seasons
>God please no.
I have never bought or played a game with a season pass. I seen this shit for what it was years ago. Take a stand, reject the cancer.

A bot made this thread. They even left the referral link.

So why didn't they just keep Bungie and have them make a Halo destiny game.

I TOLD YOU ALL
YOU WOULDN'T LISTEN

Semi open world maps are better than fully open maps. It's better direction.

halo has always been cancer garbage, why are you newfags surprised that the newest game will also be garbage?

Did they really believe the Halo IP was more important than the people who created it? I never understood this kind of thinking

That sounds so much better, this also pretty much confirms Halo 5 being added to MCC eventually as a legacy title.

>I never understood this kind of thinking
Me neither. I always imagine some suit hiring four guys to write new Beatles albums and expecting the same result.

Don Matrick, the retard behind xbone, was in charge. He wasn't the smartest man.

Eh, Bungie was always a bit of a wildcard. They spent most of their early days making middling mac games until Microsoft took a pretty big gamble on them. And there's two parts to what makes Halo memorable: The multiplayer and the story. And the story was pretty much entirely created by a dude with mental problems who was let go so when Bungie said "we don't wanna make any more Halo" do you as a guy in charge of a console brand that burns money take a gamble on the weirdo company again, or do you buy the one shining success in the black sky of your company's history?

Don Matrick really fucked their brand up hardcore.

Is anyone else put of by the naming of these new xboxes?
It just sounds so plastic and Marketing-Guy like. It is just so sterile and uninteresting, like this marketing team wants you to bite into a mass of stupid, meaningless buzzwords.
What's even more pathetic is repeating that spiel about 4k and 60 fps, non fucking stop. The Xbox team got bullied so bad last gen by everyone else they now have an inferioirty complex towards everyone else.
And atop of all that? Still, almost no games. Sad, sad.

wtf forbes?

when did xbox ever have a good name?
