The violence and feedback you get from slashing enemies is great. I don't care how in depth DMC may be, slashing enemies in those games feels flat because there's hardly any feedback or gore. Flying Swallow'ing a ninja's head clean off and seeing a geyser of blood shoot out is just so satisfying.

2 is great too but it's just too deeply flawed to hit you that same way.

I literally just beat it for the first time last night. Combat is fun and satisfying and I had a blast overall. Only complaints are the shitty music and level design and all the retreading you end up doing. Bosses were kinda shitty too. Will play again.

I wouldn't count it as retreading since the whole point is to have an interconnected world like a metroidvania.

like said, hard and above you get the fiend ryu fights which are possible some of the best 1v1 fights in any action game.

if you have xbox piracy you can get the hurricane packs working with effort. they have a bunch of new enemies and changes that were worked into ninja gaiden black.
