>play dark souls for the first time
>get random black knight sword drop in north asylum
>upgraded it to +5
>easymode from there on, oneshot almost everything
Is this seriously it?
Play dark souls for the first time
>have decent weapon
>have decent reaction times
>understand how iframes work
congratulations you win dark souls
I also got the BKS on my first playthrough, from the first blacked night.
>Is this seriously it?
If you're not enjoying the game by now, it's not for you.
I'm enjoying the game, but the regular enemies went from "decent threat" to "complete pushover" way too quickly. At this point I kind of just run from boss to boss in a straight line.
The BKS drops in the Undead Burg, not the Asylum and it takes time to get it to +5.
But yes, it makes the game much easier than standard weapons.
Which part of the game are you at?
Dark Souls is fun, but the meme about it being "the hardest thing ever" is pretty ridiculous, especially when you can grind and upgrade weaponry as much as you want. The real difficulty comes from people intentionally making their characters not super strong and enjoying the challenge that arises. Some bosses may still push your shit in, but that'll be about it.
BKS is a pretty great weapon.
you don't even need this sword. you can do the same with claymore.
If that's how you wanna do it, it's your choice.
Personally, the fact that the game has basically an unlimited amount of weapons/items/spells was more than enough to keep me going, every time I found something new I would check the moveset for any juicy attacks.
Yeah the BKS carried me on my first run as well.
However, the exploration/world/item descriptions/new areas/enemy types carry the game, even if you went through the entire thing with just 1 weapon, what I'm saying is, there's a lot to it, especially if you're greedy and want to find all the items/weapons/secrets.
Certainly a more fun RPG than something like WoW or Tera or some other soulless floaty 1,2,3,4 rotation simulator.
You can get the BKS on the return trip to the asylum from the two black knights
I highly doubt anyone would go back to the Asylum before meeting the BK in Undead Burg unless you look up a guide.
I just ran over Ornstein and Smough. Went in 2 times by myself to watch their attack patterns and then summoned Solaire on the third time, easy kill. I used the pyromancer attackbuff, so I killed Ornstein in like...6 or 7 hits? Kind of a letdown after everybody saying "ornstein and smough will fuck up any new player".
I know, but it takes a lot more to upgrade that to its max compared to any BK weapon.
>using buffs optimally
>went back to asilym before OnS
Yeah, they fuck up actual new players, not people who play with guides.
I mean, summoning will make almost any boss an easy kill. The challenge from bosses is that you don't get the chance to heal damage without waiting until a certain point in their attack pattern, by which time you may have sustained too much damage. Having a summon takes away all of that challenge, since it's easy to make space and heal, and also easy to let the summon deal damage while you play much safer.
You'd have found them harder without a summon, almost certainly.
Furthermore, you have a weapon that most wouldn't have until pretty much the end of the game when you're only half way through.
Sounds like you're cheating youself out of a challenge.
You only have yourself to blame for the "letdown" you're talking about.
The game is like 10 years old, kind of impossible for me to go in blind. Like for example I knew about the northern asylum from dunkey's dark souls video.
Also:
>he used an attack buff, must have read a guide!
lol
Yeah man just challenge yourself. I did a no shield no block run the other day and that was fun.
Yeah yeah, my point still stands.
Using the optimal approach in any game turns the gameplay into a joke, if you really grab every crutch that you find, both in the game and outside of it, why make such a dumb thread?
>Go Dex
>Have a fantastic time with an incredibly challenging game where you have to take in your surroundings and time your dodges/ attacks where even slight hits can have large consequences
>Go Strength/Poise
>Just eat hits that don't even phase my character and breeze though the game bashing everything to death with big number weapons
Too many people went though on this braindead baby grade easy mode and it shows.
>not going for a STR sored n bored character on your first run then switching to katana ninja in the middle of your first run while still having majority STR
that's the real dark sol
>Katana Heavy Infusion master race
>oneshot almost everything
Maybe you should grow some balls and actually leave Undead Burg
Their weapons aren't guaranteed drops you fool
theres no recovery, BKS is a beastmode weapon and will carry you through everything in the game
thing is theres a lot of weapons like that, id just slap shit and mosey forward since a lot of threats arent even monsters.
Game is easy with any weapon as long as you upgrade
I'm trying to remember if one of the patches increased drop rate of upgrade materials cause it seems like they used to be way more scarce. I know that pme big patch made a lot of changes like doubling the amount of Souls you get and shit.
PCJews and fags that started with 2 and 3 and went back and played 1 and Demon's later never will have the true Dark Souls experience.
Yup. Best friend did the same thing. And this was way back in the day so he was pretty much blind.
That's literally how my first playtrough went, tho the sword was dropped by the black knight at the dark basin.
If that leads to you not having fun, stop using it. Black Knight stuff is kind of a meme for ruining the game.
'omg I looked up how to easy mode DS lol y is it so easy?'
Faggot.
>use BKS
>summoned Solaire
>killed Ornstein first
>"bruh why is the game so easy?"
Hahahaha what a joke
It is easy you failure
yeah, dark souls sucks and is actually an unbalanced piece of shit.
getting any black knight weapon turns the game into easy mode yes
Using summons at all trivializes O&S because it takes away the challenge of handling 2 targets at once. You cheated only yourself.
>It is easy you failure you only need to use an OP weapon and summon NPC help
>game is only hard if you put restrictions on yourself and ignore several of the mechanics that the devs put in
>no shields, no magic, no summons, final destination only
do the black knights there respawn, is there a way to farm them for this early on?
The only respawning Black Knights are in Kiln at the end of the game, either get lucky or get fucked.
heh, I'd just make a save at a bonfire, kill them and if they don't drop anything reload
>savescumming to get a weapon that trivializes 90% of the game
Your choice, but if it were me I’d just cheat in infinite AR and health at that point.
>play dark souls 2 for the first time
>Upgrade everything to max
>Still killed by 5 armored knight coming at you at the same time
Is this seriously it?
Summoning Solaire completely skips over the first phase of the fight. Summoning NPCs at all is a crutch th devs put there for scrubs.
If the devs put something in the game then I am going to use it. Anything else would be retarded.
