Its things like this that scare me. I'd love to do my own kickstarter to hire a decent composer for my project, maybe 10k goal or something, but if people over-donate and it suddenly hits like 400,000 or something, what the fuck do I do, I feel like i'd have so many expectations on me i'd crash and burn.

You deliver what you promised, doing your best
It's on them for giving too much money
the secret is, people do not care what you do with the money.
If you deliver the product that was promised in the initial kickstarter then it does not matter if you did it by using 3 dollars and a pack of gum or millions.
Suikoden II was a good game. Expecting anything close to that is a fools errand. But hopefully its not a complete disaster
Yeah but at that point they start expecting, Well you have 400k, so wheres my physical copy, or my soundtrack, or my collectors edition, and I dont know if i'd be able to keep track of so many people to give those things to let alone hire companies to even GET physical editions
so what's the release date for this
Likely that initial goal wasn't even going to be enough so you just stick to your original plan
>hundred heroes
>average backer cost is 100
When scamcitzen releases
Jerkin it.
Then don't promise physical editions.
I've always wondered this:
Would it be considered dishonest if you:
>Made a game in full with your own money sweat and tears
>Chose to raise a kickstarter for it despite it being finished
>Wait a year, give constant updates of things you already have done to make it look like you're doing shit
>Release full project on time without delay since it was done a year ago
>Still get kickstarter money
Nobody would ever know, nobody could question what you used the money on as long as they got what was shown yeah?
>Credits
>Programmer: You
>Modeler: You
>Musician: You
>Q and A: You
>Special thanks: you
Yeah not suspicious at all.
dishonest was a poor choice of word there, because that is dishonest as fuck. the real question would be if it's illegal.

You technically could do this.
You'd be fucking stupid, but you could.
Actually its a great way for indie dev. Free pr. Probably more money than you would get than just releasing game in steam. Plus since game is already done, zero risks.
Why not save time and begin with the kickstarter from the beginning? Along with the fact that if your game is good, you’d want to release it early to generate revenue.
You also get to work on your next project while the prior one was "in development."
i was going to ask if this is for the suikoden-type game and i'm glad it is because this is the only way that much in 24hrs would have been acceptable
I think many games actually did that when kikestarter was used mostly for free marketing to the hipsters about ten years ago
this is exactly what happened with W101R
Long ass you did it without puting any updates online before hand.... I guess so
Money Laundry
>Kickstarter
Try patreon. Monthly cash, and with some of that cash you could make updates for the already finished game so you could have a year's headstart on polish.
You clearly never did your own project. Working on it out of passion is great and stress free. Working with known deadline is stressful shit, plus everything can go wrong. If you don't care about your health then go for it.
Jewtinum did it and people sucked their cock PASSIONATELY
Totally honest and well explained campaign for a game type people want to see with a staff people want to support.
