I've tried playing both for about 10 hours and I can't stand them, the combat is so boring. The setting is so cool and really makes me want to like these games, is that all they have going for them?
I seriously want to know why people like these games
bethesda rpgs are more about the worlds, the sense of freedom and character building than combat
i don't know. all of my friends like these games and i pretend to think they're pretty good to avoid confrontation.
If combat is the only things that makes or breaks a game for you, then you must not like almost any RPG out there
i liked 3 right away, i took a long break from NV after playing it only once, but when i came back it clicked.
Nobody likes Fallout games specifically for gameplay, they like them despite their gameplay. You'd really need to get onboard the writing, perverse sense of humor, and lore to be drawn in.
If it isn't for you then it isn't for you, nothing wrong with that at all. What sort of games are you into?
Never be afraid to voice your opinion.
I don't get it either. I'm currently trying New Vegas for the 5th time and it's just so broken and bad. The writing might be ok in places but there are times where it just assumes you've exhausted every dialogue option, so the way a character talks to you doesn't line up at all.
Nobody really likes these games, they're just impressed by the idea and the concept of them, even though in actuality they're shit. And sadly, while Fallout 1 and 2 were good games in their time, and are better games than these two, they've stil aged like rotten milk left out in the sun thanks to their 320x240 assets and god-awful isometric view.
Atmosphere
I like JRPGs but I've tried to get into western ones like Elderscrolls and Fallout, but as much as the world interests me I just can't stand the gameplay for any of them
The cOMbat is SO BORiNg
Shut the fuck up.
OP has mental problems
what JRPG combat are you comparing them to?
I dont think the combat is that great but i cant think of a JRPG that blew me away either.
Then don't get into combat
3 was hot garbage when it came out, New Vegas has always been good.
Has 3 gotten better since release?
I skipped it because of how bad people said it was initially and after New Vegas i figured going back would be a massive downgrade.
Not OP but with also don't like FO
>What sort of games are you into?
boomer fps
The graphics in early fallouts are gorgeous, it's just that anything turn-based filters me hard
>Has 3 gotten better since release?
Bethesda never updates their games user. For example the Steam version of F3 is broken on modern operating systems. GOG had to patch it for them.
Grandia, Chronotrigger and Mother 3 have good combat, although I wouldn't describe them as blowing anyone away
I like New Vegas because you can kill everyone especially easily.
The DLC improved the game considerably, it's no where near New Vegas, but it's worth a try.
>Don't play the game just walk around and look at stuff
You like these games?
I don't get it either. All these WRPGs (not EVERY one but the Bethesda ones and the ones that take after them) are just bad to me. They feel unpolished and unfinished. Aside from the bugs just the usual movement and combat. They feel like trash to play. They look like shit, not technically, aesthetically.
Combat isn't the entirety of gameplay. You can complete the game through dialogue only for example.
No you can't.
Yes you can, for New Vegas at least.
Everyone always defends them by saying that the gameplay isn't everything, but if the game isn't fun then I'd rather just watch a movie or something
Not like JRPGs have good gameplay lol.
>Grandia
First time ive heard that one. You should try Tales of Phantasia if you like classic RPGs with unique battle systems. That game is amazing.
>Chronotrigger/Mother 3
I would say these are in the same boat as most fallout games. Combat is passable but the story makes the game.
Undertale is probably the only classic style RPG i would give amazing combat title too.
It's a turned based game, it's grindy and not always the most engaging but knowing that gun play can be fun just makes these games all the more frustrating
>god-awful isometric view
zoom zoom
You should try the original Fallout games (1 and 2) then, they have turn based combat.
I thought the combat was fine, sure it's not an amazing FPS experience or anything but it was serviceable with a good variety of guns. Fallout 3 was slightly shitty with its ridiculous bullet spread early on at long distances but after some leveling up and getting better guns, you can blow away virtually everyone in 3 or 4 shots anyway. Weapons were also pretty cool and varied, especially in NV.
i think the fallout originals aged fine and show what more modern fallout games are lacking. The slow start is an issue but that was always a problem, once you get rolling your hooked though.
One of the worst opinions I've ever seen on Zig Forums
>the combat is so boring
I have fun with the combat.
Do I just have to play more games for the combat to suck?
