Demon's Souls was a phenomenon in Japan the way Dark Souls was here.
Fans in Japan are constantly demanding hub worlds, world tendency, etc. because that's where their nostalgia is.
Hence them never really doing a Dark Souls 1 style open design ever again.

Personally I prefer the world do Dark Souls over Demons Souls, all the locations in Dark Souls connected to the world and felt relevant. The mines in world 2 kind of connects to Boletaria through enemies and lore but it feels disconnected from the actual kingdom, the shrine of storms is out in the middle of bum fuck nowhere, and the valley of defilement could be on the moon for all it matters. When I play demons souls I feel like I'm teleporting to 5 different continents rather than 5 different parts of a country, and the souls games having physical connections between places is an upgrade.
