Sony Patent Suggests DLSS-Like Sampling Technique Could Be Used On PS5 Games

PS5 uses RDNA 1 GPU and doesn't have AI/ML

funny how consolefags nowadays care so much about console specs, as if it meant better games by default

Based,

Dumb. DLSS works because the RTX cards have the horsepower for it's maths. The PS5 don't have that so it's going to be checkerboard hole filling stuff again and not AI reconstruction.
PC won. Again. You now only need 1080p's worth of pixels for a good 4K image now on PC while the PS5 will still need at least 1440p's worth of pixel to have a good enough image on a 4K screen and it's still not gonna be as good as DLSS.

You cunts speak English or what?

>Could
>Maybe
>Who knows

It's better to use DLSS 2.0-like upscalling on consoles because you can get 60fps and close to/if not better than 4k resolution without sacrificing visual/art design by developers

Best of both worlds

>use AI upscaling on console
>instead of boosting fps it's gonna be used to fill the screen with more shiny shit at a unplayable 30 fps
You don't need RTX for AI upscaling. It's just nvidia's proprietary implementation for it. RDNA 2 will probably have something similar based on DirectML

fucking retard AI/machine learning or tensor cores for Nvidia are separate processors added to the GPU

Not him but you get what you pay for.

>If not better
Fuck off Nvidia. DLSS still sucks

Which AMD still doesn't have

Yes but the dedicated hardware help achieve the quality.

>"Could be used"

Modern journalism, everyone

Lmao, DLSS 2.0 are pretty close to native 4k resolution that should be the norm for next generation

>Yes but the dedicated hardware help achieve the quality.
Which anyone could implement.

RDNA2 adds AI/Machine learning cores to their upcoming GPU same for next gen consoles

What the fuck is DLSS? What did it even stand for? Dad Loves Slurping Spaghetti?? Why should I care how my dad eats his spaghetti?

Could a switch2 potentially implement dlss in a cost-effective manner?

Deep Learning Super Sampling

It's not that hard to google it user

This is obvious.. but sony has neither
1. an Nvidia gpu to use DLSS
2. The rights to DirectML

So they gotta start a new process

As far as we know, the PS5 doesn't have cores dedicated on integer performances though. Whatever upscaling technique they use will have to use the same pool of graphic performances as the rest of the game's graphics. That's a huge disadvantage that RTX doesn't have to deal with.

PS5 has no ML cores. Nothing like that has been confirmed.

what AA did tlou2 use?

Probably, because they uses Nvidia hardware anyways

GAAY

TAA

You only need AI/machine learning cores baked into you GPU to use deep learning/machine learning up-scaling
Even Sony's checkerboard rendering is superior to temporal antiliasing

checkerboard rendering and TAA

>PS5 has no ML cores
>PS5's gpu is RDNA1
what a retard

I'm going to remember his version and forgot yours because that's how my brain works...

I remember when retards said adaptive sync would be impossible without a expensive dedicated Nvidia chip.

Well a movie that has a fixed camera doesn't need powerful hardware to just replay higher resolution video

>PS5 has no ML cores
Lmao, PS5 uses ML super sampling and creating a patent for it

Checkerboard rendering...is that what was used in rdr2 on my ps4 when Arthur picks flowers absolutely they become this weird dotted thing like it's disintegrating when he puts it into his pouch?

Nvdia has dedicated has dedicated hardware to accelerate AI training maths (and all levels of precision) with low latency. You can’t just slap it into a software algorithm and accomplish the same thing. You can, of course, do AI upscaling in software but the effect wouldn’t be the same. DLSS 1.0 was still hardware-based at it sucked. All Samsung and Sony TVs already do AI upscaling and nobody compares this to DLSS

Blue Nugroho fucked up the ass yet again.

Well PS5 is moving to machine learning super sampling now and not using checkerboard rendering in the future

Nvidia had dedicated hardware for it though. My Samsung Q80T has AI upscaling. It’s not comparable to DLSS

>All those retards in this thread who don't understand what the difference between hardware and software is

You can patent DLSS like stuff all the time (don't forget DLSS1.0 was literally shit), but your hardware has to be built for it. I don't think Sony is using such innovative hardware in their PS5. Especially because this technology is extremely new and just slapping some A.I. like cores into your GPU seems unlikely. Especially because no one really knows what A.I. cores will look like in the future. There is a reason why the RTX 2080ti is so expensive. Developing such a new GPU is not profitable for a console that will be released now. Maybe in 10 years when Nvidia or AMD has found a way to make 100 % failure free GPUs with A.I. the console market will maybe have them.

Also consoles are already finished years before release and everything else is just testing and improving. Having an RTX like GPU from AMD like 3 or so years ago is impossible and risking a huge failure rate of PS5s because of new hardware is not a smart move.

A fucking RTX 2060 gpu has tensor cores for DLSS you talk as if AI/ML/Tensor cores is some sort of alien tech

Somebody say DSL?
