Just emulate with a good pc.

it's a meme made by companies trying to sell old useless stock

i got a pvm from a broadcasting company and it was full of bed bugs. I had to purge a lot of clothing, bed sheets, etc.

Retro games look ultraclean and jagged in emulation. For example, in Street Fighter look at the "KO" lettering at the top; jagged on a non-CRT and smooth on a CRT.

Moreover, gradients aren't gradual in emulation. They're pixelated. On a CRT you get smooth transitions from one color to another.

They're only a meme if you pay a lot of money. On fb marketplace you can find crt tvs and pc monitors for cheap at every level if you're patient. Plus older games do look much better on crts but there's pretty good emulators these days.

I dunno, keep mine for my old consoles and just prefer the CRT

Played through Viewtiful Joe again on it last week, did an Alastor run

Aesthetically, it's pleasing

The games play the same, but the quality can take a nose dive on newer TV's (Especially Banjo Tooie), but over all, it's up to you

Its not a meme but most of them have geometry issues that are difficult to fix, just because there arent that many people who know what they are doing with CRT's anymore. However there are some like this one youtube guy, retrotech i believe, he shows how to replace capacitors and adjust the yoke, magnets, service menu, etc(but he mostly deals with PVM's). If you can find one thats in good condition and "good enough" picture after just adjusting the onscreen settings, that is cash.

No zoomers, it isn't a meme. The only people who say it is a meme are too young to have actually played pre 7th-gen games on an actual tube tv, or used a mediocre scanline filter on an emulator and assumed it's the same thing. All games before the 7th generation were designed specifically to be played on CRT displays with phosphors and noise.
Everyone talks about how "ugly" N64 is, but when you actually play it on a display it was designed for it is a thing of beauty that also allowed for it's hardware texture filtering to shine.
Don't spend over 50 bucks on a good PVM/Trinitron though. Everyone found out you little fags want to play bing bing wahoo on them and they are capitalizing on that.

CRTs are pretty nice but at this point you can pretty much just get the same thing on a low lag monitor with filters. People who spout shit like Punch-Out! being unplayable on a flat screen input lag are fucking retards.

I'm still hunting around for a good CRT monitor though, mainly because it's nice having something that actually has old video ports built into it. Fiddling with upscalers or HDMI adapters still sucks in 2020.

But what if you want to play Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter?

I got a bvm a couple of months ago. Ps1 games look amazing. Consumer CRTs are horseshit. Skip all that bullshit and just buy a nice pvm or bvm.

Older games were designed in mind with how CRTs project the image so yes they are in fact better for retro gaming

If you have a nice piece of kit, why not use it?
Never mind the memesters who don't know the difference between composite and component.

Boomers play against the cpu in snk fighters by themselves Zoomers actually play online

I like original games on original hardware. If that's not a possibility, emulation will do.

>over 50 bucks on a good PVM/Trinitron
tfw I'd have to spend at least twice that for something that's not complete trash here
I managed to find a cheap literal who crap CRT with a slightly crooked tube for my SNES but anything that isn't dogshit like that will cost the price of a damn used car here

I agree, except when nostalfags argue that CRT can't compete with current tech monitors on current tech media. I fucking hate those fags.

My CRT stopped working last year, got an HDTV afterwards. Input delay is honestly not bad and I can deal with the shitty picture qualitty but the thing I miss the most is that I can't play lightgun games anymore. No more Point Blank for me, at least for a while. Would like to have a CRT next to my new TV but I don't have enough space for it.

High-end CRT computer monitors are great. Unfortunately most monitors back then (and now) were not high end.
A good measure of CRT monitor quality is horizontal refresh. Anything below 100kHz is no worth it

>Barely scraped by with CRTs, and have one because of it
Thank fuck.

boomers still playing meme games from the 80s and 90s

kek, get a discord and a copy.of Minecraft, literally nothing can complete with this combo.

lel i was playing on a CRT all the until the early-2010s. at least it supported component so i could read the fucking text on Dead Rising. poorfags unite.

Sorry, user by "scraped by" I meant time period-wise. CRTs are comfy though, and I'm glad you managed to have a good time on one.

no meme
I have a flat Trinitron hooked up to my desktop and even with a shitty HDMI converter you can tell the difference in latency compared to a shit 60hz LED display

>No zoomers, it isn't a meme.

ok boomer.

ctr's are a dead meme praised by bald 40 y.o boomers like your self, can you hear your self? playing a boring game from the 80s on a tv from late 90s.

how boring your life can be? fuck you might go b/w tv as well

based falseflagging boomerfag

y-yeah, s-same bro.

scan lines on some emulators are getting almost on par but they are very gpu intensive.

Are you alright, user?

A lot of games from that period had pixelart created with scanlines in mind, so no, it's not a meme.
