Well?
Well?
N-no
challenge is fun though
usually pick the middle difficulty
only bethesda games because dealing with health sponges isn't fun in any way
This would be true if Dark Souls garbage didn't exist
depends
if the devs give you a easy diff then its a part of the intended experience
if they do not then it is not
that said, games are not supposed to be fun, theyre supposed to be engaging
Lowest I ever play on is normal. Being challenged is fun, blasting through the game without any issues can be fun but it usually gets boring very quickly.
Games aren't fun if you can plow through them without any thought put into them though.
This post makes me want to type GO BACK in all caps
My nigga
I agree, I always play the game on the easiest difficulty.
I've literally never picked the easiest setting in my life unless I needed it to get an achievement.
>games are not supposed to be fun
dilate
No, I'm no faggot and neither brain damaged
Feels good being better than you
The game isn't fun if I don't have to put any effort in either. To that end, the hardest difficulty is usually poorly balanced too.
Some games aren't fun on easy
Others are.
People who obsess over beating games on the hardest difficulty have a complex. Their lives are unfulfilling so they subconsciously try to make up for it by "gittin gud" at games. When the reality is, no one gives a fuck if you're good at a game or not. Grow up.
Lol I don't play video games
I play games like Saints Row on casual difficulty because higher difficulties just turn the enemies into bullet sponges, and you can already run out of ammo during missions on casual.
I tend to choose the hardest difficulty and either fail until I lose interest or until I get good. Also your twitter meme is shit and you need to go back.
It really depends on the game. Some games do difficulty right by making it challenging but still fair and balanced. Other games inflate enemy health and damage and call it a day. If the former i always pick the hardest difficuty, if the latter i don't bother.
hey, fuck you too kid
Games should inherently only have one set difficulty so everyone gets the same experience
Last time I played a game on easy I was 12
I think you are one of those.
Easy games are boring and not fun
>that said, games are not supposed to be fun
No, they're supposed to be both fun AND engaging. Please stop being a retard.
So wholesome, upvoted :)
I never play on easiest, why would I? It would be boring af. I almost always pick whatever is harder than normal but not hardest
This is the only correct option
I don't though. I play on normal or hard depending on genre.
>Personally, I pick the second hardest difficulty in game, than bump it up for the second Play through
I always pick the normal difficulty for the first run then pick higher difficulties for replays.
I play all games on normal
Acceptable challenge without being frustrating.
i play the game and adjust accordingly
fuck darksouls niggers who say if the game doesn't challenge you you're not having fun
LETS BE FUCKING REAL HERE V WHAT GAME HAVE YOU PLAYED THAT ISN'T JUST "ON THE ROSTER"
action games on easy are boring af and not fun. if you're trying to get into a new genre then it's fine
>play on the retard difficulty
>still think you have any knowledge to criticize a game
Zoomers everyone
I've literally never played a game on the easiest difficulty I assume most anons just go for normal on their first playthrough as that's the default.
I pick the difficulty below the hardest one, because that's usually the difficulty that's fair and balanced.
If there are still difficulties between the hardest and normal then I always go 1 up.
>game i got for cheap that ive never heard of
>always pick hardest difficulty because i know im never gonna play it again
>game i know and have read about
>always pick medium first playthrough
That's ableist you ableist faggot, apologise for your racism NOW
I usually play the game on DEFAULT as this is how the devs want me to experience their game.
EH? EASY MODO?
I opt for the most difficult baring certain conditions.
If the game is all mechanical skill? Hardest
Stat fuckery of any kind? Normal, hardest is clearly meant for NG+
I know dumbasses that slam their head against a wall on the hardest difficulty because they think they're badasses raging for 3-5 hours straight, and then they have the balls to talk about game balance when almost 100% of games don't expect you to jump in the hardest difficulty first try, so you have 0 map knowledge, 0 knowledge of enemy or item spawns.
You just look like a fucking idiot when you do shit like that.
shut up bitch
at least you should always play play on the normal difficulty and above, easy is uaually the opposite end of the spectrum where there is a void of challenge. its like cheating in a game to the point where there's no point and its not fun, you're just stripping away any challenge and bypassing mechanics
this, unless I really enjoy the game and I'm replaying it, then I might go above
I never play the hardest difficulty in turn-based RPGs.
If I have to play a game on easy I'm not going to play it.
>waaaah, why can't i just easy mode every game
dark souls isn't even hard
I've never ever done this, not once in the 30+ years I've been playing videogames
I usually pick a higher difficulty and then adjust it to present a challenge for me, but not to the point of frustration, usually the sweet spot for me is the difficulty between normal and nightmare
imagine spending time on creating reddit memes like that. jesus christ, whoever did this is unironically 13 years old
No my dude. Games are supposed to br engaging and then make you feel something. Like how TLOU2 makes you feel like tranny enablers are fucking psychopaths who made the game equivalent of the essay they call the school counselor in for.
If I'm replaying an entire game series then I might do it on easy, like I did with the MGS collection.
I play games on the hardest difficulty available. If it turns out to be too hard, I try the second hardest. So far I've never had to go lower than the 2nd hardest difficulty.
I always used to play every game on hard, but now I just put it on normal since I have a massive backlog to get through. I figure if I ever catch up, I can always go back and play them on harder difficulties.
I don’t think I’ve ever put a game on easy.
I refuse to play videogames on anything under Normal. Even if I'm getting my shit kicked I'd honestly just quit altogether than set it to dumb retard mode.
>discussing strategies with friend
>he mentions absolute retarded shit that gets you killed 9/10 times
>later find out he plays on normal
Casualfags, not even once.
Casual difficulty tends to be quite brainless in most regards.
HELL FUCKING NO
Easy mode helps to move on from a game's challenge much MUCH quicker than playing on hard. I play on the most difficult setting to play the true experience the designers intended AND help extend the play longevity.
games are supposed to be fun but if your fun isn't based on any kind of challenge then you're a retard playing with your own shit.
you can do it, but I won't respect you for it.
Easy difficulty has the problem of becoming a stomping yard for the player very early on. It's the inverse of the past few Assassin's Creed games. In those you genuinely never feel like you are getting stronger. I don't see a point to either experience.
New games = normal and hard on replays
Ports/remakes of games you've played = hard from the start
No one should ever play on easy.
I bought the EXP item DLCs in both SMT:IV games because grinding is just a dumb way to express gameplay.
If it's a game that matters to me and that I want to enjoy I go for hard.
Otherwise Normal. I don't play games that I don't care about but if someone forced me to do it I would probably play them on easy.
I'll play on defaults, unless that shit's too easy.
almost never is it too hard
yep, that or the one recommended by the devs
>games are not supposed to be engaging, theyre supposed to be engaging
Keep in mind that this is what you're saying.
But I always pick hardest and move to second hardest if it gets too frustrating than it's always good at that point.
I have it down to a system by now and follow these steps in order:
>pick the recommended difficulty if there is one
>pick the hardest difficulty if you already played the game or its the sequel of a game you already played
>pick the second to hardest difficulty if neither of the above apply
>If I play it and its unfun as a result of the difficulty, lower it 1 level at a time until its enjoyable, or you realise the game isn't worth finishing regardless
I play in the dificulty that is selected the moment I press the "New game" button. I assume that as the "intended way" of playing.
some games are so shit they dont deserved to be played on anything else than easy
EZ MODO?
I just choose normal no matter what. If I like the game enough, I may do a second playthrough on the hardest diffuclty.
Jim is the worst part of the office.
But a lot of people derive enjoyment from overcoming a challenge. To that end, I would guess that most people who come to a shitty gaming forum are sufficiently versed in games to not find a challenge in a game's easiest setting.
>you need to re-start the game from 0
your logic is nice, i would too if most games weren't shit
Easy mode is for people who don't actually play or genuinely enjoy mechanically engaging with games. And that's fine, but any opinion you have in regards to what you're playing is meaningless.
I play on Normal unless Normal ends up being too easy, then I up the difficulty.
Remember: if you aren't failing, you aren't challenging yourself enough.
>gee let me just take this book and scale down the language used so that it's easier to read
>it's all about the fun
I play normal mode if it's my first time because that's how the developers intended the game to be played. Easy and hard modes were afterthoughts with generally poor balance.
I always play on normal on my first playthrough.
>easy is too easy
>hard is bullet sponged enemies boring snorefest
You can usually gauge a game's difficulty based on what the game is itself and how it scales.
It wouldn’t be Normal or Medium if it wasn’t intended to be the default setting
*Blocks your path*
A lot of the times the most difficult setting isn't the designer's intent though and is more of an extra for series veterans, 2nd playthroughs, or players seeking an additional challenge.
Halo for example was designed to be played on heroic and not legendary, and playing on legendary kind of limits your options in a lot of cases and kills a lot of the badass supersoldier fantasy thats still there on heroic.
I like the way DMC does it, force you to play one difficulty then give you baby mode if you die a lot and a harder one when you beat the game.
If that's the case I just suck it up and git gud for better or worse.
Randomly selecting you.
Why do tourists feel the need to reply to a thread without post-linking the OP?
This. Overcoming challenges is half the fun of vidya
>I play normal mode if it's my first time because that's how the developers intended the game to be played
When will this meme end?
What if someone doesn't care about challenge?
>never heard of
>know im never gonna play it again
you know you're never gonna play it again despite knowing nothing about it and might end up loving it?
Games arent fun if I'm not challenged.
I usually play on whatever the devs designed the game to be played at.
Unless it's a city builders or tycoon game. I play scenarios normal difficulty because scenarios are supposed to be a challenge. But in sandbox modes I choose baby difficulty, and straight up cheat whenever I feel like it.
I am playing yakuza 0 and yakuza kiwami on EASY.
I like a challenge but if it's making me stressed I turn it down.
I always play on hardest but I’m really getting second thoughts since the hardest difficulty is just poorly designed/not fun. “ULTRA GIGA NIGHTMARE EX MODE” is usually just an afterthought for the devs and is often very cheap, it’s like the devs are thinking that since the hardcore audience is, well, “hardcore”, they should also be expected to enjoy frustrating and cheap mechanics.
I also get cold feet when it’s very obvious that you’re supposed to already have certain weps or items going into the hard mode run
Never. Retards need to justify playing on easier difficulties instead of just admitting they aren't good enough.
>hardest difficulty is how the game is meant to be played
What's her name, Zig Forums?
I play the intended experience, which is usually normal, though some games like halo had heroic more as the intended way to play.
Bullshit
Objectively correct choice.
I usually start on the middle difficulty. If I like it but it's still too hard, I'll pick easy so that way I can understand the game's mechanics and improve myself so I can try it again and work my way up to the hardest difficulty.
Nu God of War
Why the fuck do so many games lock Hard and above difficulties behind finishing the game first on Normal. Who benefits from it?
No. Most games these days feel too easy on "Normal".
Souls games
if you play halo on anything but legendary, you deserve to have your gamer card removed
Likely it's designed around NG+
The developers literally make the game on normal difficulty (hence normal) and then usually just add health and damage to enemies for harder difficulties and remove health and damage for lower difficulties. If a game doesn't do this, then sure it may have been intended for a different difficulty.
Suck down battery acid, Fromdrone.
>fun
We dony use that word here at Zig Forums
>he doesn't think raging so hard you throw things is fun
What's it like going through life as a woman?
the joke is there is only one difficulty option aka the hardest
Bayonetta
Because normal is the tutorial and will usually have scaling difficulty for new players. Hard can be challenging throughout and makes you hit the game running because it knows you're ready for it after beating normal. Like a new player playing Bayonetta 1 on hard literally wouldn't even be able to beat the prologue.
That sounds like a big assumption.
Most cases I can think of that's not applicable.
Easy modes are always just hold forwards and press one button. That's not fun. Harder difficulties mean you usually have to figure out all the game mechanics and have some really tense fun moments because there's a threat
Why would you ever play a Kingdom Hearts game on it's easiest difficulty? Even on critical or proud, the last third of the game can get pretty mindless. I can't imagine how tedious a whole game on beginner mode is.
