I've been hard at work learning japanese for the past two months despite not really caring about anime or any of that shit. Just felt like I wanted something difficult with tangible benefits to do instead of dumping all my time into competitive video games which are ultimately pointless.
It's going surprisingly well, I think I have an affinity for just doing shitloads of rote memorization. I'm lv8 on wanikani, third of the way thru tae kims grammar book, almost halfway thru genki 1, blasting thru my anki deck every day and putting on terrace house 24/7 for immersion. Going into VR chat and squawking hajimemashite at nips then going 'ah ah, sumimasen, nihongo wa chotto wakarimasu' as soon as they try talking to me over and over is fun too.

Fastest way is to just eat the brains of an eleven, that's what I did. The only major issue is you can't cook them or all the language juice boils off, but if you think of it like sashimi it's not too bad.

those languages (Chinese, Korean, Japanese) force you to increase memory and the learning of their symbols is like using variables.
Also their composition of word is different than latinized languages.
